Multiplat Official Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Discussion

Beat the game this weekend easily my GOTY. I thought I was at the end Friday but didn't realize I had a lot more to go. Have to be kind of careful because you can sort of grind the last act and make the final dungeon kind of trivial. I just ran past everything to the final boss because it was pointless fighting the mobs. Final boss was pretty simple. The Cheater and second chance Pico make your team so OP.

Not sure if I'm going to try and get the plat or not. Played this and Daybreak2 back to back so I need a break for now. Might just slowly work on it since I don't feel like committing to another game right now. Though I've also thought about slowly working on TLOU2 plat so I don't know yet. Also make sure you do the side quest for you team at the end they are very good.

You do get a lot currently sitting at 64 recoats haven't used 1 yet.
Yeah, it kills me how it's one of the most expensive items in the game. You practically trip over those things in the game, there are so many of them. I don't know how many times they expected the player to respec. In most games, you might do it once or twice at best.

I'm guessing maybe few different times. Most likely because the weapon scale off different attributes. Someone might be using one weapon but come across one that's better for whatever play style they are going for

I find myself sacrificing sleep to play this. I normally get about one hour per night to play but I’ve been setting my alarm at 5 AM to get extra playtime . I’ve only been doing story related stuff but now I’m at the point where I have side quests available and it may be my last chance to finish up exploring before completing the game. Great game, exceeded my expectations for sure. Ended up loving this way more than the recent remake of FF which is way too bloated for my liking. Appreciate that the devs made this game more like old school jrpgs. It feels like since then games have only gotten longer and more boring. Back in the PS1 era they averaged between 25 to 35 hours. So many that release now are like 60 to 80. Another trend that they broke is allowing the player to become absolutely broken. We all know what I’m talking about. So many jrpgs today don’t let you get powerful because they want to make the game artificially longer. They do this by lowering experience if you’re leveling up too much, making stat upgrades nearly worthless, etc. If you can parry well you can take on some nasty enemies early on and get pictos that end up making the main game a breeze. That’s some PS1 era stuff. Last thing I’ll say is the story is beautiful and unique. They never dragged out the cutscenes and they always left you wanting more. No exposition dumps or drawn out scenes. Really felt like a breath of fresh air. Going to become of of my few ten out of ten games this gen joining Astro Bot, Returnal, and Silent Hill 2. Not sure what will beat it this year. Feels like the type of game to win the big awards.

lol just beat the super boss in one hit dealing close to 60 mill of damage

I keep reading about this, but I have no idea how to do it.

I'm actually early Act 2, just found my last team member but backed out of the next stage because I was struggling with the mobs.

Now I'm right back at the arena, beating the life out of the strongest side there over and over. Two level 37s, a 35, a 32 and a 30...

Just beat the game yesterday. Hit over the 9,999 cap basically have to finish act 2 tied to a picro

Just got the 4th member. I like them as a solo fighter a lot, but not sure what party construction I want.

Very good game so far.

Seeing all yous playing and raving about it forced my hand. DLing now. And not a spikey-haired character to be found? What sort of RPG is this?!

What is the completion time for those who have beaten it already? Heard it is on the shorter end, which sounds great.

If you just push through the main story it's about 25-30 hours. Nothing is really missable so you can do all the side stuff at the end or after beating the game if you want. I think there is one trophy locked behind the prologue which you can easily get just by doing new game+ and pop it in the first like 15 mins.

Did some grinding last night popped a couple of trophies and got my characters to level 70. Grinding in some shores area that is supposed to be really hard getting like 800,000 exp per fight.

With 69 hours in close to 70 currently done with everything i could do. Did all super bosses just beat the endless tower and got to level 99. Got all but one achievement being find all 33 music scores got 30 of them.

Lol wtf I'm reading on the subreddit for this game some people legit went 40 hours into the game or more or even beating it without understanding the picto and lumina system.

In fairness, it's easy to forget about some of this game's systems. Shit, I was like 10 hours in before I figured out what those Lumina points were for. Goes hand in hand with the picto system.

Yeah, I think the average is around 35-40 hours for the main campaign. It's definitely not your typical JRPG, and I think they successfully cut a lot of the bullshit out of the traditional model. Half the time wasted in those games is just busywork. This feels like a cinematic action game, that just happens to have a JRPG battle system. Everything flows together so naturally. It barely feels like your run of the mill JRPG. Despite it's familiar structure, it's very unique and even groundbreaking.

It's a game I'd recommend to people who usually hate JRPG's.

For the first 6 hours or so I was switching the pictos between characters lol. I thought you had to win 5 battles with each character equipping it to master it, apparently all you need is 5 battles on ANY character. It was so much management and I didn't even have to do that. The system is actually quite simple, I like it. Some are pretty broken though. Just got one that allows you to attack twice in a row.

All roads lead back to Julien Tiny Head.

I went through the world, killing some and falling on others, only to beat a big bastard, camp by mistake, leave the camp early and end up back at Abbotts Cave. Hit a few Juliens after.

Level 36-41 now.

I need a better place to level up. It seems that everything from the Forgotten Battlegrounds onwards is either too sparse or poor with XP, or too flat out difficult.

I also want to level both Defence and Vitality. All Defence is 99 on all characters, but the only weapon that has both Defence and Vitality buffs is held by Lune.

Got up to level 80 last night. Tried to beat one of the big bosses but couldn't do it still. Insane that being this high level and there is still stuff that can easily beat me. I doubt when I reach 99 it will be much easier.

That is good to hear. I don't follow gaming news outlets so mainly rely on what I see here to determine if I will try something out that I have no real knowledge of. The art and more streamlined gameplay and design had me excited to try it. It says to use a controller, so have to go to storage for one, but I will play the way the devs recommend. At least it is already downloaded, because I really cannot wait.

Dark Shores is insane for leveling up. 300k exp per enemy and they always drop one of those items that enhances your weapons up to level 32. I was playing 3.5 hours on my portal today just mindlessly leveling up while doing some work on my computer. Got one of my characters weapons to 32 and another 30. Btw, the PS5 Pro and Portal combo is awesome. What I do is use my TV when I progress through the story for immersion but when it comes to stuff like grinding I use the portal so I can multitask while working. Works out great. I’m probably going to stay here for another 5 to 6 hours lol

Okay so it turns out this game does have a flaw. Damn those stupid gestral beaches and their mini games. Not sure if I have the patience to platinum this game. I think there’s a trophy to beat those games and I also feel like finding all the expedition intel will be a pain in the butt. Still 10/10 game imo. No game will ever be perfect
