Multiplat Official Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Discussion

I'm honestly not even sure myself about the points allocation. I'm still trying to understand the best team setup. At first I was trying to think of it as a standard tank/healer/dps setup but that doesn't seem to work here. Seems like it's more 2 DPS and 1 healer. With that in mind only 1 team setup works really.

Yeah, I have one might/luck, one all agility and one all luck. My fourth one, I think I mixed might, luck and agility, but no idea if that is any good.

I keep thinking that I'm missing out by not dumping everything into one stat. Combat is tricky as well, takes several tries to wipe out a boss...

I saw someone mention that full might\agi is the way to go. I haven't tried it yet but I really need to do a reset on one of my characters and see how it works. I have plenty of reset stones.

Found teammate no 4.

Any recommendations for where to allocate points? I'm not all that experienced with this type of game...
I just discovered that you can use those "Picto"(?) things as passive buffs, and not just allocated skills. Spend those "Lumi...." points to activate the pictos as passives, and all of a sudden all of your characters have like 10 passive abilities. They probably should just be passives, because allocating three of them is kind of pointless.

In terms of your actual skill points, I've found it wise to invest them in anything that your weapon buffs. When you see those symbols next to the skills, just put them there. You'll get more bang for your buck that way. Invest a point or two in vitality every time, regardless though.

Teammate #4's powers were rather confusing for me, so they just sit on the sidelines. I've got everything working perfectly with the main 3. It's funny that they have this deflated look on their face whenever I upgrade their stats. Almost as if to say "You're never gonna use me, are you?"

No, no I will not. LOL.

One thing I want to add about the Pictos that I read elsewhere. The ones you actually equip on yourself have extra buffs on them so there is some merit into making sure you pick the right ones. Some add def, speed, or HP.

So far for my team I've been using all the starting characters but I think I might switch to one of my other teammates. I had to use them after my whole team was killed and I realized they are stronger than I thought and if built right he can destroy people. Maelle is by far my strongest character right now.

honestly every dam party member in this game can be broken with the right pictos. With lumi being Infint. Tho so far my fav are between maelle and the 4th and the last member you get. I think the end of act 1 was fantastic. Currently in act 2 with everyone being at level 52 with maelle being close to 60

Holy shit I'm in Act 3 and my characters are way lower level then that. I think I'm in my late 30's. How are you so high level? Are you grinding? I'm still destroying stuff even at this level. Did you push through one of the end game dungeons early on?

I'm guessing grinding, and hitting every optional area. This game is very generous with EXP. If you just stopped every now and then at a bonfire near some beefed up enemies, you could probably gain ten levels in 25 minutes. I've only done it once kind of early in the game against this big blacksmith thing. Fought him around 6 times and gained three levels.

Yea I actually just got done doing that which is how I went from early 30's to late 30's now. Was easily able to proceed through the dungeon I was in. I looked online after reading his post and seems like I'm way under leveled compared to everyone else. I also saw some people say that even though some things say "Danger!" it doesn't always mean it's to high level for you but I don't know if that's true cause I also read the exact opposite. I might go back to the earliest "Danger!" area I saw and see if I can do anything there now.

yes i definitely pushed through side content I'm pretty stubborn if i think i can do it i will. I'm pretty good at parry tho some enemies took few tries to learn. My lowest is 51 they were the last member i got. As long you can parry not get hit you can get past shit you didn't think you could.

It also helps that defense is more skill based. You could theoretically beat this game at level 1 if you have the "dodge/jump/parry" down, since every attack the AI does can be avoided. Haven't noticed one attack that you couldn't dodge, except for one giant enemy that eats party members, but even then he only eats one. Even the status effect attacks have to be implemented with a physical attack. No "poison" attacks and whatnot, that just infects your whole party that you can't block.

Curiosity got the best of my so read a few posts. Please don’t sleep on Sciel. She’s amazing. I use the weapon that adds 10 stacks to every foretell attack. She takes double damage but you can try to remedy that with things like the confident picto. Insane damage output. Just make sure you have a skill equipped that does “increased damage with foretell” to get the big payout

Ok yea this makes sense. I have no desire to try and push through enemies that can one shot me but I realize that's a possible path one can go down in this game. Even then people are still way higher than me so I found some spots people mentioned would be open to me and give tons of xp so I'm going to do that tonight.

I'm at the boss in this dungeon but I'm going to back out and go do that.

I'll need to try and see what I can do with her. She does high damage but takes a bit to get there. I think I might replace her though cause another party member does the same they just need a lot of AP which I think will be easier to remedy. Maelle is still my favorite.

I found that fighting in the Secret Arena helped some.

It also helped that I got spanked by the do al two of them, until I respecced Gustave and threw my points into Defence. It made things a lot easier.

Though I am tempted to respect again and throw it all into Health. No critical chance increase from that though...

Just picked this game up yesterday. I'm digging it more than any RPG I've picked up in awhile.

Just fought, and lost to the Lightmaster.

As much as I like this game, this stage in particular is becoming a test of my patience.

WIth 79 points in Defence, Gustave is the only one who can have a drawn out fight. Fighting the cultists has been especially bad, as all of my points had to go to breaking the shields. Battles have been...

Failing to parry three times
Attack
Women are stopped
Gustave does slither of damage with basic attack
Gustave is attacked twice
Gustave has to heal
Gustave is attacked twice again
Basic attack
Gustave is attacked twice yet again
Heal
Repeat until eventual win, or baffling one hit defeat.

I'm thinking of backing out and going back to the secret arena to grind...

No idea when I’ll get to it but I went ahead and ordered this. It seems too good to not play and I’d like to support a smaller dev team.

What level are you? Sounds like you need to grind and get better at parrying. Also Maelle has a skill that allows her to break all of an enemies shield with one attack and get 1ap per shield broken so look into using her in that fight. Then again I'm not sure if she has that skill early on I forget when I got it.

With that said this was one of the hardest bosses in the game for me and I did grind just outside the boss area to level up. Also I think your points in defense are a waste of time honestly. I would rather put those points into HP and might\agi so that you can do more damage on your turn and with counterattacks.

You shouldn't be failing to parry three times. Missing one, ok but all three? Nope you need to practice on the boss more and get the parrying down.

This boss and the act 2 boss were the hardest for me so far.

Just curious what's everyone's currently level? Pretty sure I'm close to the end of act 2. Party level is currently 60,62.62,63,60.

I think I had a level 26 Gustave and the rest were level 22 or 23.

I did beat it again this morning, after respeccing all of my characters points into defence. Having Lune and Maelle survive multiple shots instead of drop after one really helped, and I started to get better with the light sword counter in the second phase.

I'm wondering what is better, HP or defence. The increase in the health number is nice, and putting into vitality also helps with might, but maybe healing spells work better with a high defence stat, especially as damage is reduced? I had my new character specced into HP instead of defence, and he has dropped once already.

I absolutely need to find that Maelle skill. Having to wait for nine action points, just to take the shield down of a cultist and then whittle the health down with a basic attack has been rotten. Thanks for the heads up.

The end of Act 1, whilst beautifully done, was awful to me. Twas like a punch to the gut.
