Oblivian's Adaptations

Mother fucker. Incredible work lately.

Did anything come from the oly coaching thing?

Nope. I talked to Chad Coy who owns a gym and is competitive in strongman. He said he could coach the olympic lifts and also train me at strongman, but they train from 5 AM to 7 AM. Do not want.

Nice work. I usually try to find someone every day to make me feel completely weak and insignificant. Today that someone is you. Congrats!

Thanks. I always like to think how there is some girl and a bunch of teenagers out there warming up with my max.

Nice. And I was happy to get 210x3 a couple weeks ago :)

How are you programming your deads now?

How are you programming your deads now?

It's sort of an odd programming style. I alternate the weeks as follows:

Week A
Get 5 reps in the least amount of sets as possible. I started at 405 and got 5 reps then the next time I did 415 lbs for 5 reps. This week I couldn't get 5 reps with 425 lbs, so I did 4 and then a single. Next time I'll move up to 435 lbs and hope to get 4 reps + 1 rep. I'll probably do this all the way up to 455 lbs and then go back down to 410 lbs and cycle back up.

Week B
Do a 405 lbs single, a 445 lbs single, and then go for a PR. So far I did 480 and then 485 lbs the next time. I'll go for 490 next week. If for some reason I fail, I'll probably pull something like 475 lbs afterwards.

So basically I'm alternating weeks with a max effort top set and a max effort single. I used to only do singles, but I really stalled out on that. So far this is working pretty good.

Yeah, I can see that working. When singles slow down for me, I like the idea of your Week A especially.

Hoping I can maintain the program I've been on, though. I've had a bad couple weeks (due to issues completely unrelated to my programming), really just want to get back to it.

Warmup
Jump Rope + Light Heavy Bag Work: 5-10 minutes

Bench Press
135 lbs x 5 (warmup)
185 lbs x 3
205 lbs x 2
225 lbs x 1
265 lbs x 1 x 3 sets

Squats
185 lbs x 5 (warmup)
255 lbs x 20

*The 20 rep squats literally took everything out of me, so I skipped DB rows.

*Odd day of lifting. I got my new belt thinking it would feel great, but it feels extremely awkward. Soreness/cramping also creeped up on me even though I haven't lifted since Sunday.

Warmup
Jump Rope + Light Heavy Bag Work: 5-10 minutes
Overhead Squats: 95 lbs x 5, 135 lbs x 3

Squats
185 lbs x 5 (warmup)
225 lbs x 5
275 lbs x 3
295 lbs x 2
315 lbs x 1
345 lbs x 1
410 lbs x 1 (+5 lbs PR - see notes)
*Depth? It looks like I at least hit parallel or broke it slightly, but this is definitely the highest I've squatted on a PR. I was having issues hitting depth with the new belt. It definitely feels weird having a thick belt up front after having the thin little Valeo belt. Either way, I'm going to make sure I go deeper on 415.

Bench Press

185 lbs x 3
205 lbs x 2

280 lbs x Fail (*Very close)
*Got an awful hamstring cramp setting up on 280 lbs. I'm definitely not going to go for any bench PR's anymore unless it's first lift of the day. I feel that I will be getting this weight soon.

Very nice PR. That's awesome! You definitely broke parallel. I watched it a few times just to be sure.

Thanks Squat.
