Mueller is trying to get Flynn out of jail free so that others will see that there is a benefit to cooperate, instead of not being a rat and then hoping for a pardon (that Trump has been dangling). The judge is in a different situation, he had access to documents and evidence not made available to the public and the pundits, and based on what he saw, he thought Mueller was taking it easy Flynn, and and based on what he saw, and based on what Flynn's lawyers were saying (thinking that Sullivan would be on Flynn's side because as ardent Trump defender Judge Pirro said, he has a "track record of calling out prosecutorial misconduct" and is a "man who does not tolerate injustice or abuse of power") about how Flynn was wronged, he was furious at Flynn's bullshit. There were more crimes there that Mueller isn't pursuing, and in any other reality, people who think like you would be livid if it were Susan Rice caught red handed and pleading guilty to the same shit.

I mean consider the devil's advocate argument against your beliefs for a second guy, or at a minimum put the 2016 election in the past and be willing to look at Trump with some level of skepticism.

The judge shouldn't have been commenting on the other things he knows since Flynn is not being charged with them. Some of those things are left up to interpretation, and the few who had to work in a similar capacity to Flynn during his military career probably have a better understanding. Flynn may not have made great decisions, but has definitely paid a big price for that.

Flynn's military career has nothing to do with his illegal behavior, the shit the judge saw regarding Flynn obviously made his skin crawl, and even with Mueller selling the no jail time hard, the judge thinks Flynn has to carry the cross farther and has to do more than what he has already done for Mueller in order to not have to spend some time behind bars. What criminal behavior (besides lying)? The point that I was trying to get across is that it's improper to lecture someone about committing crimes they were never charged with (particularly if you are a federal judge).

I had clearly said it an early post that his experience military intelligence put him in situations that forced him to interact with foreign nationals, and some of those interactions might be left up to interpretation (although it is tough for us to judge here since we are not privy to most of those interactions). There are lots of people who work in military intelligence that walk a fine line sometimes. That was the very clear point I was making a few posts back.

You have not made a clear argument, you have tried to make some nebulous connection between him clearly lying to the FBI about 3 different subjects to his career in military intelligence. Again, the judge was "disgusted" and was ready to jail him unless he was willing to testify against two of his former business associates who, like Flynn, were illegally lobbying for Turkey (you know Turkey whose president's conversation with Trump appears to be the impetus for Trump to falsely tweet out that ISIS was defeated and that he was pulling troops out of Syria without even telling, let alone consulting with the pentagon).

And the judge, in the context of handing out a sentence, can talk about the other crimes Flynn has admitted to given the evidence, which are crimes that Mueller is giving him a break on and is not charging him with because of his subsequent cooperation. The judge has more information about the crimes than the public does, is outraged at Flynn’s criminal behavior, sees the break Flynn is getting, and sees the way Flynn and his lawyers are trying to spin it to seem like he didn’t do nothing and the FBI is actually the one at fault (you know all that stuff Trump defenders had been posting on here up until that hearing). The judge (who Flynn's attornies were happy that had been assigned to the case because he is known for being tough on prosecutors (e.g., in Senator Ted Stevens' case)) thought that was outrageous based on the facts, and doesn’t want to yet give Flynn the break Mueller wants to give him and is asking him to do more to avoid prison. Right wingers wanting to compartmentalize Flynn's behavior to only the things Mueller (as a reward) wanted to charge Flynn with is not something the judge could stomach, and he is taking the totality of the "disgusting" evidence into account when considering Flynn's punishment.

Overall though, as usual with how right wingers are inculcated to think when it comes to anything related to Trump, it’s somehow the person's fault for calling Trump, or someone associated with Trump, out for fucked up and even illegal behavior, and not Trump’s fault, or someone associated with Trump’s fault, for doing the thing (e.g., the judge is a partisan panic wrestling you were doing a couple of days ago).
