Nog vs Sergei 18 years ago

I dont recall if he took down Sapp, a lesser grappler than Nganou/Gane, following your uber simpleton logics.

Nogueira would have a very hard time safely getting close enough to even attempt a TD.
Bringing up Sapp shouldnt even count in this discussion considering Sapp had well over 100 lbs on Nog. if it was your point that Nog couldnt take down a guy that big, thats not really a great point. We are comparing Nog to today's fighters who are not going to be near that size.

And if that IS such a big point,we should also point out that Sapp was submitted on the ground, wether he was taken there or not.

That guy never trained in his life. No shit Nog wasn't able to double leg Sapp but he shot in on him and when Sapp sprawled, Nog used a sit out technique to transition to top control which ultimately is as good as a takedown. Sapp was a 385lb roided monster who was literally stronger than Gane and Ngannou combined.

He also was able to pull guard on Tim Sylvia (as big a HW as there could be) ,and after going 2 or 3 hard rounds, once he got him there the fight was over in 30 seconds.

Nog was a gladiator and one of the toughest and greatest legacy fighters ever. But the UFC fanboy shills will tell you how Derrick Lewis is better. There isn't a sport this great with such shitty, uneducated fans. Smh.

They just started out with a belief system,(that the new guard would always win against the old) and try to force everything to go along with that.

To be honestly I don't think this is far off the truth, I think the way the UFC sells itself is reallty attracting people to the hype and the brand on a personal level.

I think they know that selling quite a dumbed down and distorted version of the sport hype wise suits them, not only does it allow them to hype whatever they are selling as the "best ever" but I think it also draws in people wanting to be an "expert" on a sport fairly quickly. If your challanging UFC hype you basically challenging many people personally as there so deeply invested in it that it became a personal attack.

This is really bad for the sports progression though IMHO, you basically have part of the fanbase thats self deluding, wanting the hype to be true and taking a lower standard of product in order for it to be so. Really amazing fights are not the main reason these people are watching, its more following the hype and wanting it to be true.

In any other sport I think the fanbase itself would have been demanding a greater percentage of income be spent on talent. Many fans don't just not do that but they activelty attack anyone(including the fighters) who claim they should, the idea of Dana White getting maximum income is what they love even if that income means they watch an inferior product.

I believe Nog could probably submit Gane although itd be hard to match pace w him in the beggining. Ngannou would be another story though. He would really have to live thru serious damage to survive long enough for him to tire Big Frank long enough get a submission..but hey...if he could survive Sapp, maybe he could have done it w Ngannou. I would avoid that for anywhere less than 10 meeeeellion dollars though.

I think Nog had a chance of beating anyone. Including Ngannou.

Would be one of his hardest fights though. He wouldnt be able to hurt Ngannou, and Big Frank doesnt quit, even though he gets tired.

I agree but Ill say this, Francis was sucking wind after a round and a half in his last fight with Gane and couldn't land a punch and had to resort to LnP from where he didn't do any damage either. Give Nog a tired Francis inside of a 10 minute round and it's not unreasonable to give Nog a grapplers chance considering a French kick boxer had Ngannou in a leg lock. If anyone could get the job done it's Nog.

I've been reading the thread and to nobody's surprise pride fans know the real deal while ufc shills just pull out their sorry pro ufc centric historical narrative talking points.

It's the old, if you weren't there you don't know the importance of it. They missed the bus and weren't fans of that early Golden era period when pride ruled.

You COULD know the importance of it,if you were a true student of the game, and truly wanted to know. The information is out there. When i joined here,I didnt know shit, and checked the history of many older threads as well as old fights to inform myself.

Big Nog would lose the first round and get beat up badly in it before catching a gassed Ngannou with an armbar deep in the second or third round.

Ouuuuuf that's what I'm talking about! A power post!!!! Love you brather!

Poor post!

You really undersold Timmeh there. Timmeh was the UFCs all time Hw GOAT champ. He had unparalleled ufc title pedigree and held the record for most defenses, wins, etc (until Stipe finally overcame that all time record).

You made it sound like Timmeh was supposed to be finished once it hit the ground. Like there was a massive (and obvious) talent difference in UFCs all time goat candidate’s skill level versus a has not been pride champ in many years and well past his prime Big Nog.
