No Limit Hold 'Em Poker Discussion

1/2 holdem. 4 straddle. 500 effective.

I have JJ first to act. I make it 15. HJ, Button and straddler call.

Flop: 2 2 8 rainbow. I continue for 25. HJ and button call. Straddle folds.

Turn: Q. Checks around.

River: J. I checked dark. HJ bets 50. Button raises to 200.

What do you do?

I call and I hate it.

TBF I have recent PTSD from my sets and trips getting cracked.

In real time probably all in. I don't like just a call because in this spot were gonna be ahead most of the time and need to go for value. Especially with the people who play with you.

Was actually a tougher game than usual.....casino recently started doing daily tournaments so you get more solid grinders than before.

It comes down to what is worse.....raising and losing to QQ or 22, or just calling and being shown the 88 or trips.

Kinda hand when posted on YouTube everyone in the comments will say it's a snap call!

Quads are so rare it wouldn't even cross my mind. HJ and Button would have been able to easily raise QQ pre so it makes it look unlikely either of them has that on the turn. I'd be trying to extract money from trips. I guess a call is fine but yeah in real time I'm probably going all in. I think you made the right choice.

Exactly my thoughts. Really hard for either of them to have a 2 too, though. At the same time really hard to put him on a hand he'd raise the river with.

Just one of those hands where, as played, can't really do much about it. Other guy had A Q, so if he'd have bet the turn like he should have, I'd of never been in the river situation.

A-2 suited on the button is reasonable if the player is one of those "I'm defending my blinds all day" types.

Yeah, I said A2 or 88 as possible and what I was hoping. But would be very odd way of playing them, imo, especially the A2.

Are these guys calling K2, Q2 and J2 suited as well? I see loose crap like that all the time at these stakes.

I am all in as well here. If I lose to quads or Qs over 2s then so be it.

the logical smart play is call but with that juicy of a hand I am pushing everything in. Hence why I’m an average poker player at best. Lol

Not really, but not impossible. And even more unlikely if they did they just call the flop and especially check the turn.

Really odd one last night.

1/3 NL hold’em, 600 effective

Jd 10d, under the gun. Make it 10. Folds to big blind who makes it 25. I call in position.

Flop: Qd 9d 4c. Villain bets 30. I call.

Turn: 3c. Villain bets 55. I call.

Then villain brain farts, thinking it’s the river. And turns over Jc Js. Floor determines his hand is live, but can only call or fold river.

River: Ac. I bet 220, knowing he can’t possibly call. He snap calls.

FML.

Turned out the guy was terrible. Later took me for another 450 all in on a K J 8 flop with Q8 over my K J. And coolered me with AA>KK, too.

You ever had one of those nights where the fish destroys you, then donates it all back to the rocks at the table?

hhmmmm.... not that i recall but then again after more than two decades of casino poker where i was buzzed/drunk half of those times i am sure it has happened a few times.

Generally though I recall taking money from said fishies most of the time. When you see a fish every shark at the table is praying for a good hand to corner the fish. I do remember taking an L for a hand or two but then eventually bounce back (either at the expense of the fish or another person). i guess main reason i don't really remember is that in the end everyone is an opponent and i don't care who i get my money back from as long as I get it back and I am winning.

played twice recently and it's good to be back. i've missed poker.

2/2 NLH. Bought in for 500.

Literally the first hand I played. I pony up in the cut off. Couple of limpers. KhKd. Make it 12. Button calls. One of the early limpers make it 45. I make it 140. Folds to raiser, who calls from a stack of around 400.

Flop: 4c 4h Jd. Guy bets out 80. After 30 seconds, I raise all in, for 260 effective. He snap calls. I think “fuck, must have JJ or AA.”

I reveal my cards. He refuses to show. Turn 7c. River Ad.

He looks at his cards for 15 seconds. I’m thinking ‘shit, he must have QQ’.Then he says “kings no good” and shows Ah Qd.

Fucking hate this game sometimes.

lol that's pretty poor form slow rolling you like that.

If its any consolation the guy is more than likely a long-term loser if he is getting a 200bb stack pretty much pot-committed preflop with AQ.

Don't even think he was deliberately slow rolling, tbh. Think he was just dumb / drunk.

I hate it when it's the first hand I play and get stacked. Happened to me yesterday when I had 89 on a 89A9 board and got stacked by AA. I know mine is a cooler and yours is a bad beat but sometimes you just have to say fuck this game. Looking back you had him all the way, 77% pre to 87% flop to 93% turn and BAM 7% comes through. Beats like yours can fuck a person's state of mind up. Did you keep playing?

Literally playing as I type. Doubled up first hand tonight!

I played 5ish days a week for about 10 years. Paid for a good chunk of my college education this way.

Almost always cash games, anywhere from .25/.50 to 1/2 blinds. Started in HS, and stopped playing often shortly after college.

What's the best site to check out online stats? Thanks in advance.
