NINTENDO SWITCH Official Discussion v2: Nintendo's Big Comeback Starter Pack

I see it kind of differently in that who wants to support a company who can't even get their system into the hands of customers who want to pay for it? It has been 3 months now and most places still don't have a single Switch on the shelf. Would you want to risk all that money in creating a port for a system which so far isn't looking very good? Not to mention it's processing power isn't even on par with consoles which came to market 4-5 years ago... that's a lot of work and a tough sell for most game producers.

I'm not going to lie I'm curious about the Switch and semi-interested, but right now it's totally on the back burner because outside of BoTW and maybe Mario Kart I'm not interested in a single game. Even if I wanted one I'd rather not have to deal with people selling them in back alley's or meeting in Best Buy parking lots. haha Perhaps once there's a reasonable supply in stores and many more people have them gaming companies would willing to take the risk, but right now I think it's just way too risky to put any kind of money into developing for the Switch for most game developers. Guess we'll see what happens but I wouldn't hold my breath.

They're competing for parts with freaking Apple. That's the level of demand for the Switch and I don't under the, "a system which so far isn't looking very good" comment since by all metrics the system is selling RIDICULOUSLY well and garnering all of the positive Word of Mouth there is. The point about processing power while valid CAN be circumvented so it just comes back to the question of why with regards to 3rd Party devs.

despite not meeting enough deman. Switch was number 1 selling console for past two months and is expected to lead sales again for month of May.

I explained WHY.... for the most part only Nintendo-freaks have gotten their hands on the Switch, and outside of very few titles, the games don't appeal to a large majority of gamers. On top of that, outside of those Nintento-freaks, most people can't even get their hands on a Switch. Who would want to risk the development costs for such a situation?

Also, in all seriousness, why buy a game on the Switch when you can get it for a superior console (Xbone, PS4, Steam)? How many serious gamers (and you're talking 3rd party support and that's a big appeal to serious gamers) are going to pick up a game on a Switch when they can grab it for a different console? The headset issue with the Switch is something that's going to be a source of constant frustration for serious gamers as well... who thought it was a good idea to drain your phone battery so you can use a headset with a console?

Again, you want 3rd party support, but peculiar decisions such as the headset are going to turn off a ton of developers. I'm also curious about what kind of security issues that would bring into the mix... now if I want to play an online game they (Nintendo servers, other players, "hackers") will have some kind of access to my personal cellphone or maybe tablet. I'm just not sure how well that's going to go down for a large majority of players. Guess we'll have to see but you keep asking why and I feel like I've explained the hangups and concerns quite succinctly.

I think this is a no-brainer because the other consoles have been out for a long time and anybody who has wanted one for the past few years has been able to go just about any store and get one. 3 months down the road and people still can't walk into a Best Buy, Wal-Mart, GameStop, or other stores and grab a Switch.

Again, I'm interested and down the road I might pick one up if they ever become widely available, but I think there's some serious issues which need to be addressed first.

This is the same PC vs Console argument and as an owner of a gaming rig and PS4 I can answer that. Because it's portable. I'm already considering getting Indivisible for the Switch first over PC since I can take it with me anywhere and play at any time and this sentiment has been shared by a numbe of people on here and online. The Nintendo-freaks comment is also not as accurate as you think since while yes, Nintendo fans have been the ones to primarily get the console first, but that's true of any fandom that the biggest fans will always be the first one to get the product in question with everyone else following suit. The games point I neither agree nor disagree as it's rather subjective, but the games that are out such as Breath of the Wild and MK8 DX are HUGE big name sellers.

“All I can say is that there is lots of internal discussions going on within Konami regarding what games we can bring to the Nintendo Switch, other than Bomberman, a game which we are well aware of its heritage and how loved it and Castlevania is. So much so that Castlevania is getting is getting its own show on Netflix and because of that, we’re hearing a lot of desires from our fans for a new Castlevania series. So we do know there is a demand for a new game, but right now nothing is set in stone as the discussions are still on going.”

Fucking Konami only has ONE JOB to do here. Bring back 2D Castlevania and make bigger, better and more awesome and throw Koji Igarashi, Michiru Yamane, and Ayami Kojima all of the money to program it, make the music, and make the artwork respectively for it and then sit back and watch the money print itself.

how about they make a mordern game, enough with fucking shitty indies and shit 2ds

Funny, the two games you mentioned as "big games" are both available on the Wii-U. We'll see what's in store for the Switch in the future in terms of more 3rd party support, but I can easily see why a developer would be hesitant to invest in such a new gaming "console" at this point in time. Again, that headset issue is going to be a big problem for a lot of people and I'm curious how gamers are going to react to it.

TLOU and the Uncharted Trilogy were seen as big releases for the PS4 in spite of being on the PS3 already and TLOU being barely a year old. Also, why the parentheses on the word console?

It's more of a tablet than a console. Anyways, you believe what you want and I'm glad you're enjoying your Switch and everything Nintendo has provided so far. That's really all that matters so no worries in arguing with me since it seems as though we are both firmly cemented in our opinions.

Again, I'm excited about the Switch, but I just see its flaws and I believe that is going to be a huge obstacle for bringing on 3rd party support. Not saying it won't happen but I can certainly see their timidness in jumping into development for Switch games or ports.

finally played a real switch tonight, a super mario maker port would really make me buy one, other that that i'll wait a bit longer. zelda did look pretty snazzy on my ex's tv though and her daughter made mk look pretty fun.

Completely and utterly disagree with this statement.

Bought a 3DS with a few games a few years ago - one being one of my favorite of all time Ocarina of Time. But as I played OoT it didn't feel right playing on a handheld. Something was off and it was the same playing the other games. After a week or two I stopped playing my 3DS and it had been collecting dust ever since.

But with the Switch... it feels and plays like a bonefide console. Playing Zelda on the go feels the same when playing on my 4K. You need to get your hands on one and you will understand. The Switch is not even close to being a tablet. It is a console and best of all it is a console that can be played on the go.

Were it so easy! haha Right on, good post. Since Doomrider kept dodging the question how do you feel about the headset issue? Do you think that's really the way to go forward?

No I don't think it's way forward and it's stupid, but the overall pros of the console have greatly outweighed the cons. And yes, it really IS that easy.

OK... where do I go in my area to find a Switch right now? Oh yeah... there isn't a single place in my city where I can walk into a store, at any random time today, and be GUARANTEED to be able to buy a Switch. So yeah, not that easy and why are you being so feisty about this? We both know the supply of Switches has been choked for some reason : either they wanted to artificially increase the scarcity for pricing reasons, or perhaps they're holding back on mass production and seeing if any changes need to be made and using the current Switch's as somewhat of a "beta-style" test. Who knows, but as it stands most people can't walk into a Best Buy, Gamestop, Wal-Mart, or other store and just pick up a Switch off the shelf.

Edit: glad you can at least be reasonable about the issues with the headset. Things like that are why I use quotation marks when calling it a console. No other current console needs you to utilize your cell phone so you can use a headset for online gaming.

I was skeptical of this kind of statement......until I finally picked up a Switch a few days ago. It does NOT feel like your run of the mill portable system. I've had PSP, Vita, 3DS, Gameboy, Neo Geo Pocket, Sega Game Gear...etc. None of them felt as smooth and as if you were actually playing a console game like the Switch does, in my opinion. Even the Vita can't hold a candle to the Switch in that regard. It's a big difference, and Nintendo console games on a portable device are a big selling point.

honestly I don't even know what this mess is all about because I haven't even used a headset for chatting but i'll deal with it when I cross that bridge. If it is that bad they will have an alternative solution either by adjusting the SW or something. Just because it's difficult now doesn't mean they can't simplify it later on.

personally I've dealt with messy PC (and even PS) setup so there's nothing really that bothers me that much. and if it is that much of a hassle i simply won't use it.

example, i can't chat and play online Street Fighter V on my PS4 using my arcade stick without jumping through some serious setup hoops. My Arcade Stick doesn't have an access point for a headset. I have to rig my handheld controller to think it is playing the game then switch over control to the Arcade Stick and do some weird plugging and unplugging for it to work properly. It was so annoyingly difficult that i eventually stopped playing the game entirely (the joy of playing SF was with my friends online and talking shit to them). Worst comes to worst, my Switch will be solo gaming or online gaming without chat...

and they'll be plenty of fun with all the games available. I've never owned a Wii U so there are plenty of games i am eagerly awaiting to play. Splatoon being one of them. I am actually really happy they are porting them over (repacked with deluxe extra stuff).

Arms is getting fairly decent reviews. I was thinking of getting it but the fact that I missed both weekend beta tests makes me wonder if I care enough about it yet.
