Nick Diaz wants Mayorga or Vargas

Out of all the boxers with notable name, Diaz's best shot is against someone like Mayorga.

Because let's face it...Mayorga is a wild puncher, not really refined in his skills and is definitely under the "brawler" category.

Any other technical fighter and Diaz gets killed and/or embarassed.

You're wrong on that one my man. Mayorga might not be as technically skilled a boxer as guys like Mayweather, but to say he's a wild style brawler who's 'not really refined in his skills' is ridicolous. He's definitely refined, he just likes knocking people out with flashy dynamite bombs.

Either way, he would KO Diaz for sure, as would any other elite level pro boxer. Diaz is good at boxing sure, if he'd have made that his career instead of MMA then maybe he'd have even been a champion. But in all honesty, I don't think his arrogant assumptions that he could make an instant successful transition to boxing is much different from Toneys assumptions that he could instantly translate to MMA.

you also don't want to bite off more than you can chew, in what, your second pro boxing fight?

So which is it? Is he testing himself, or is he being careful about who he fights?

If Diaz boxes like he did last week in his MMA fight, he will get killed by any boxer.

I think Mayorga and Vargas absolutely fucking slaughter Nick Diaz in a boxing match. This isn't even close.

Really?? ok, you don't go in to a brand new sport without getting your feet wet first, you have to crawl before you walk. someone like mayorga or vargas would be a perfect test, because, if you lose to them then you know you need a lot of work before trying the truly elite in boxing. Your not going to take calculus before you take algebra.
Understand what I am trying to say?

diaz trains with legit boxers and appears to take boxing just as seriously if not more so than jiu-jitsu

would not at all be surprised to see him win a decision against mayorga

I and others would.

lol i'm just sayin - he probably has a pretty good idea exactly what he'd be getting into

if he can hang with andre ward then he can hang with mayorga imo

I dunno, I usually don't flat out beat the living shit out of people that arn't at my level boxing durring sparring. I'm not sure that means they can hang with me.

If he were a German in Germany, then yes, he could "win" a decision. Other than that, not a chance.

lol yeah im sure nick diaz is totally unaware of the difference between sparring and a real fight...........

i suppose, this being the boxing forum, and the majority of you having boners 4 boxers, that the nearly unanimous opinion being voiced in this thread should also not come as a surprise.

will add this to favorites and bump when diaz shames mayorga

Can I bump this when the athletic commision laughs at the very thought of this and dis-allows it out of fear for Diaz's life?

lol. Dude Diaz will NEVER win, I can assure you of this.

How's he gonna win? He has no KO power so that means he has to outbox these guys and that's not happening anytime soon.

He can spar all he wants but in the end he's gonna fall for the oldest "tricks" in the book due to inexperience.

Mayo would beat the shit out of him.

Even Vargas would, though they'd both be quite blown up at 170lbs. Doesn't matter though, as Diaz (like most MMA fighters) can't box his way out of a wet paperbag. Diaz is delusional or smoking too much weed. I even remember him saying in an interview he wants to fight Mayweather and (I THINK) Cotto. I am def. sure on Mayweather. What is this guy thinking? Just because he can "outbox" other guys, who have terrible hands, he honestly believes he can stand and bang with the best boxers in the world?? I bet even Juan Manuel Marquez, or an old Morales, who are nowhere near his weight, can beat him up within 6 rounds.

Diaz has no punching power. The only thing he has is reasonably fast hands, for a MMA fighter, however I don't think he'll be that fast with 8 or 10 oz gloves.

Ward was surely going on easy on him... Gomi, who is nowhere near top echelon in Boxing was beating him up, until he gassed out. And even completely gassed, Gomi just stood there, taking EVERYTHING Diaz threw at him, with tiny 4oz gloves. Mayorga stood in front of Tito Trinidad, who was a STRONG puncher, and let him punch him in the chin. He took it and waved at him like "that's all you got? CMON!" Mayorga has a hell of a chin. And so does Vargas, cause he took everything Mayorga threw at him and went to decision. They are not even top 10 in their weightclass, but they will eat Diaz alive.

What he doesn't seem to understand... those pro boxing sparring helmets are even better padded than the shit amateur boxers use, cause pretty much everything is covered. Chin, jaw, etc. They spar with what? 12-16 oz gloves, if not bigger? Even Edwin Valero, who would go ALL OUT in his sparring WARS, couldnt knock down guys easily. So even if Ward had tried, he would have a really hard time knocking Diaz on his ass, unless he bombarded the body maybe. I'm sure though, he didn't really try. Mayorga will talk so much shit to Diaz, who throws his anger fits all the time already, that he'll easily get into his head and drag him into a brawl. Also I'm sure Diaz speaks Spanish, so he will understand EVERYTHING Mayorga says, and not just the pretty harmless shit his crap translators usually says (it's way off a lot of the time). And if he gets into a brawl with Mayorga he is done. The way to beat Mayorga, is to outbox him and to pick your shots. If you lets him corner and go into the infight, he will wreck Diaz with his awkward but powerful shots.

EDIT:

This is even funnier than that 'tard Din Thomas saying "Oh I've seen Mayorga box, he aint even that good. I will beat him up standing up, before I sub him just before the fight is over bla bla."

Willing to bet souls

I disagree with that. Diaz is used to dealing with brawlers in specific ways, and there's a huge difference between MMA brawlers, and Mayorga, whom it should be evident by the rounds he won against Mosley, is a thinking aggressor.rt

Diaz might lose a decision to a technical type, but he'd have a punchers chance against someone who is a defensive specialist, but doesn't hit big. Against a guy like Mayorga, he might actually get seriously hurt.

I concurr. Diaz has never faced anyone with the brute strenght of Mayorga. Not to mention Mayorga punches in a very awkward way, which makes it hard to block him.
