Nick Diaz wants Mayorga or Vargas

Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz has been very vocal lately about wanting to receive better payment for fighting, and his coach/manager Cesar Gracie recently told ESPN.com that the Stockon scrapper may turn to boxing soon in search of a big payday.

"In boxing, when you're a superstar, you get millions of dollars," said Gracie. "In MMA, you're not making that kind of money."

Gracie revealed that he and his student have already been in contact with a reliable promoter and are looking to take a bout around Diaz's current fighting weight of 170 pounds.

"We're in negotiations right now with [boxing promoter] Don Chargin," he said. "We would very much like to take a boxing match. It would probably be at super middleweight [168 pounds]."

Diaz has competed once as a professional boxer, taking out Alfonso Rocha by unanimous decision in the super middleweight class back in 2005. Though he is only 1-0 as a boxer, Diaz's MMA record of 23-7 should be enough to secure a bout against a respected boxer and he is already looking at two such fighters.

"There have been a few names kicked around. One of them is Fernando Vargas; another is Ricardo Mayorga," Gracie explained.

Before Diaz can turn his attention to a boxing match, he must take on Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos in defense of his Strikeforce welterweight championship this Saturday night.

Greg savage was saying on sherdog radio that diaz seemed a more mature figure about the shows now apparently because he has a serious girlfriend I'm not sure if this has something to do with him calling for bigger paydays too.

Still though as slow as his arm punches are I can't believe he has as much success as he does against mma fighters against pro boxer's he'd get mirked.

Paul williams seems like an example of a similar prototype a tall lanky southpaw who throws a similar volume yet he throws 10X faster and presumably way harder too.
 
Could be interesting, I wonder how long he would be able to keep his head on his shoulders against Mayorga. I'm not a big fan of Diaz's style of boxing in MMA but it has shown to be effective so far but I think that a former titleist like Mayorga would put him to out violently
 
Mayo at 168 holy shit. Why call out Mayo when he fights at 154. He should call out Bika or Glenn johnson.
 
Diaz is either insane or angling for more money from Strikeforce. Despite, you know, recently signing a new contract with them... If he's properly serious, someone ought to have a quiet word in his ear.
 
Any of these guys would destroy Nick in boxing even if they come in bloated.
 
Diaz is so cocky, I would love to see mayo K.O. his ass. I guess since he beat KJ he thinks he can mix it with real boxers.
 
Mayorga would rape Diaz so bad he'll need the president of Nicaragua to keep him out of jail again
 
Out of all the boxers with notable name, Diaz's best shot is against someone like Mayorga.

Because let's face it...Mayorga is a wild puncher, not really refined in his skills and is definitely under the "brawler" category.

Any other technical fighter and Diaz gets killed and/or embarassed.

I just a strange idea. If Diaz wants a big name at 168 to make some money with then he should call Trinadad out of retirement. I would pay to see that in a heart beat.
 
He'd get raped bad...............Diaz is one funny pot smoking gangsta. Didn't he once claim that he'd stir things in the Super Six? Yeah if by stirring you mean get brutally pounded on then yes Nick, you would lol.
 
LOL I enjoy Diaz fighting in MMA but if he thinks he stands a chance against a Pro boxer well Just watch Don frye vs JLB and that wat might happen to Diaz except the Leg kicks and Knees
