Nick Diaz wants Mayorga or Vargas

Good for Diaz for wanting to test himself while he is still young and a champion in MMA

If Nick can hold his own against sparring with Ward, Im sure he can hold his own against a fat outofshape Vargas. I know sparring is differnt but Nick is bigger too.

Mayorga would bully him around though

No way this happens but i would not mind seeing diaz fight mayorga. The trash talk would be epic and i`d get to see nick get KTFO.

KJ Noons is a shitty boxer.. and he pushed Diaz to the edge and over it in the past.. if 2 mma bouts that were more boxing than mma...

so I have no doubt that an elite boxer would destroy diaz.. even an average boxer.. I think there is a reason that diaz wants to jump straight to Mayorga and not take fights to build up his skils prior to that.. In boxing you can't lose 7 times and still be taken seriously. He's basically pulling a toney. He's trying to use his name to jump straight to some money.. he'll get beat up and then go back to his sport.

Shame sparring and fighting are two different things. Ward would pick him apart with ease in an actual bout.

I wonder how much mma fighter would get to go to boxing. Compare to Jame Toney coming to mma.

Mayorga would twat him in the trash talk and then twat him in the ring. This will never happen, but naturally it would be an hilarious mismatch.

lol, for realz?
Why not?? he's got some serious guts to try that shit while he is still relevant in MMA, what does he have to gain besides a paycheck? he has much to lose. he deserves credit even if he gets knocked out.

As ridiculous as Toneys crossover into mma was... he still had "a punchers chance".

Diaz on the other hand does not have that against either guy imo (assuming that Vargas can make weight)

I'd say Diaz would have about as much of a chance as Toney had against Couture - slim to none. If Toney was fighting someone besides Couture, I would have gave him a normal puncher's chance. People were delusional in thinking Couture was going to do anything other than put Toney down ASAP.

I will tell you this though - I bet you Diaz would look better in a boxing ring than Toney looked against Couture in the cage. Would Diaz likely get KOed? Yes, but I think he'd survive for a few rounds. Anyways, people are delusional in thinking boxing champs or mma champs can just switch over to another sport, compete, and win at the highest level. I just find it funny that so many people are talking shit about Diaz doing this yet people on this particular subforum gave Toney a decent chance against Couture. It's not happening - either way.

Vargas last night

He's not in fighting condition yet, but I'd put him around 180 in this pick. Mosley actually looks bigger.. but thats prob just an optical illusion or something

To be fair, Diaz may have no intention of fighting Mayorga. He knows and his trainers know that despite his MMA experience and one pro-box fight, he can't compete.

I think he wants to have another pro-box fight, but against someone more on his level. However, what better way to get publicity than challenging top boxers, especially a big mouth like Mayorga who has a fight coming up so he's in the public eye.

Diaz is probably hoping to get Mayorga to talk about him at a press conference in the build up to the Cotto fight and generate interest in him moving into boxing.

Edit: Had another thought. Mayorga almost had a MMA fight, so maybe Diaz is hoping to have a pro-box and MMA fight against him.

Both would kill him and they are past it. Neither is a top boxer anymore but they have far to much for Diaz who's best defence is his face.

Diaz pitter patter Mayorga would laugh in his face and if Noons can tag him Mayorga would take his head off.

Even now give Vargas one training camp he would box Diaz head off probably take him out in 3 rounds.

Yeah, make his position as a title-holder look weak by getting his ass beat in the boxing ring. Leave this shit in Japan. Or the UFC

Just this week, mixed martial artist and Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz mentioned he'd like a professional boxing match and named Vargas as a potential opponent. Diaz is scheduled to defend his belt this weekend in San Jose.

Diaz's comments did not go unnoticed.

"Right now, I'm thinking about [Buchanan]," Vargas said. "But listen, there's another guy that's been opening his mouth that's in MMA -- and that's Nick Diaz.

"He's been calling me out saying he wants to fight me. I'm like, 'Who is this guy? You're not an elite mixed martial artist. You're not even in the UFC.' That's definitely a fight that interests me. He got my attention."

OMG Vargas is a tuf noob UFC nuthugger. He was at the last UFC event with Edgar/Maynard so I guess hes biased.
