I rewatched the Stipe fight this week and had forgotten how bad NGannou still looked in spurts in a much smaller octagon. Stipe got dropped with one left hand being lazy then he got absolutely reckless. It made me pick Gane easily.

Then D1 NGannou was born...

Just not sure how anyone beats him if he's gonna be able to go 5 rounds like that. I think Gane still can and that's about it. Jon Jones with his bloated added on weight is not going to be able to deal with NGannous strength at all.

Props to Gane for avoiding being hit by anything big for 5 rounds. That's not an easy task but yea, Nigannous striking isn't very impressive when he isn't fighting an old, flat footed HW. It's different when you're fighting a prime Gane who's light on his feet and understands defensive footwork and angles and when to tie up in clinches to stop Francis in his tracks and disrupt his attacks.

Regardless of his striking, I am very dubious of Ngannou's new "wrestlef***cking" style.
I don't think turning him into a quasi point fighter is the right strategy. He was dangerous because he KOed everyone not because he wrestled them. It's like he's negating his main advantage, clearly due to a complete change of strategy given to him by Couture gym.

Then again he may quit the UFC and never fight again (which would suck).
