Ngannou is a sh**** champ

he didnt want to fight until september at the earliest. that is 6 months

Look at UFC HW champs in the last, say, 10 years. One is the UFC schedule. Two is fighting twice a year at most. 6 months is acceptable. Almost a year isn't, as the contenders don't get their shots and have to then risk it because of need to get paid and inactivity, rust.

All the hyping and promoting UFC did for him. They were mad when he lost to Stipe first time. Now he's champ he really screwing things up for the UFC.

Timeline (pay special attention to #3 and #4):
  1. UFC 260 (March): Ngannou wins
  2. UFC 262 (May): big event in Houston. Oliveira beats Chandler. Crowd goes wild.
  3. (June): UFC negotiates a multi-event, long term agreement with the Toyota Center. This is the piece most fans are missing here. It includes UFC 265. (source)
  4. June-July: UFC now has an event in Houston - Lewis' hometown - now they need to get Lewis on the Main Event.
  5. Lewis is in, regardless. He'll fight whoever.
  6. So they start working on Ngannou. Ngannou says no, counters with September.
  7. But as per #3, September doesn't work for UFC.
  8. But Gane says yes.
  9. UFC 265 (August): Gane v Lewis.
So folks, this had very little to do with Ngannou himself. It wasn't personal. And we have every reason to believe that UFC explained all this to Ngannou, and Ngannou still chose to counter with September. Probably because he had other things going on in his life. And he was also probably negotiating hard.

IMO this doesn't make Ngannou a hero or a villain.

UFC simply moved on the Toyota Center deal, found themselves in a bind, and Ngannou chose not to play ball, so they made another deal.

So all this does is show that UFC prioritizes just about everything above fighters wants/desires/needs when it comes to making deals. But we already knew that.

These are professional prize fighters. They would be stupid to sacrifice their own needs to appease a promotion that only cares about their shareholders. They are independent contractors not employees, they don't have to take every fight offered to them. If Dana was their boss he would have every right to be pissed, but he would also have to abide by labor laws which he has no interest in doing. Some of y'all need to grow up and stop thinking these guys owe you something, and that Dana wouldn't lie cheat and steal to get what he wants.

the ufc is morally bankrupt and they do not give a shit about any of the fighters, only their bottom line, i think everyone knows this.

I mean he must really be acting like a primadona if Dana just moved past his most exciting heavyweight and made an interim title so quickly.

Not that I'm siding with Dana, but this trend of dudes winning a title, then wanting to take the next 12 months off and renegotiate their status while the division waits for them is pretty pathetic and needs to stop.

Great fighter, love the knockouts, but hoping Gane puts him away and he never gets the title again.

But Francis didn't want the next 12 months off...he was ready to fight in September after winning the title at the end of March, no?

He is hardly an outlier...look at other champs. Nunes (Mar. 6) and Rose (Apr. 24) don't have fights scheduled. Sterling, Blachowicz, and Usman will have had the same break or longer by the time their scheduled fights occur (granted, Sterling was not healthy). I know it is covid and TUF-related, but Volkanovski is finally fighting in Sept after last appearing in July 2020.

IMHO, this was all about two things: the UFC needing a title fight to headline its Aug. PPV card and flexing on Francis and his people (to show them how little leverage they have and to suggest they shut up about fighter pay).

I am with you though in that I don't like seeing these long breaks...and it would be nice if fighter pay wasn't a *constant* issue...but that is far more the UFC's fault than the fighters.

Erm he wanted to fight....and was denied. I hope you can wipe Dana's nut from ya bum soul. Shillin for the UFC aint healthy.
Wow! Funny that you'd mention a post being unhealthy
P.S. ngnoo bless

I think the UFC realized it could make more money dropping an intern title in between his defenses anyways. So it was either defend the date we book or we make more money and have a champ vs champ fight later.

y u hate Francis so much r u midget
I don’t hate Ngannou at all. I detest the lying Stipe haters amongst you. Not one of you can refute a fact I posted. So, you just keep being dishonest.

Actually I’m a shade over 6’. I just call it 6’. So I’m taller than most of the men on this planet.

Any fighter that doesn't renegotiate after winning a belt is a complete moron

In the span of less than 6 years Francis has fought 13 times with 11 finishes. The only request the guy had was to fight in Sept instead of August. I understand that the UFC is a business so they obviously had a agenda to fulfill but why the hell are fans angry at this? The fans should be supporting Francis because he wasn't asking for much and has given us so many great fights

You signed a contract, honor it
Can you point me out the contract language mandating a title defence in August for Francis? And you realize LOAs are very common for headliners and champs in the UFC, right?

Aside from stupditiy, I think many people misunderstand and think the promotional contracts are bout agreements when those are two separate things.

It's always the same problem? Oh, this fighter is too successful to complain about pay. This fighter is too unsuccessful to complain about pay. Always excuses about why ___ shouldn't complain.

Ngannou didn't take time off. He said he wanted to fight, but stalled the fight 2 times (as per Black Beast, who said the fight was first targeted for July, then for August). If someone stalls a fight 2 times, it's possible they'll stall it 3, 4 or 5 times. It was obviously a negotiation ploy. That's the reason White created the interim belt. Because there wasn't a single time an interim belt was created so fast in the history of the UFC, especially with a healthy champ. You must be extremely naive to believe the interim belt was created, because Dana wanted the fight in August, not September.

By the way there was no contract signed for September either.
