Musashi vs Sasaki Kojiro was cool, but no submissions and no cage or ring sounds really lame. FUJI TV should go with whatever Sakakibara comes up with instead.
lol, did you see it in person?
sounded interesting until i saw you can win by pushing your opponent out of the circle 3 times... i can't say i would find that a very satisfying end to a competition

the website for Ganryujima is here: http://ganryujima.fightlabo.com
and you can see tanikawa having an open discussion about the rules with fans (i think) here: http://ganryujima.fightlabo.com/discussion/1
just using google translate, the ring may be 8 meters in diameter but tany is worried it might be too advantageous to sumo wrestlers. masato thinks 8 meters is fine if you use good enough footwork. and they seem to have been thinking about having water outside the ring, which peter aerts suggested putting piranhas in. it seems like they will try it without the water though.
i have high hopes for this event being a lot of fun.
lol. Aerts is a jokester I see.
Antonio Inoki personalized the word "ganryujima" in 1980's when he had a "no rule, no time limit" match with a fellow wrestler on the ganryujima island with no audience.
In my opinion, the word Ganryujima is a bad choice.
Ganryujima is located near Hiroshima (both Musashi and Sasaki were from the region that included Hiroshima) and worthy Japanese people live far from those abandoned areas.
Some people just don't have any marketing senses and come up with a very strange name to events. SRC stood for sengoku raiden(legendary sumo wrestler from feudal era) championship but over 99% of Japanese had no clue who the fuck raiden was.
PS: Ganryujima isn't located near Hiroshima.
Also Musashi and Kojiro weren't from that region.
