Limelight My big stupid hype trains thread.

Is he? I'll watch some of his fights, but just going off the opponents he's lost and beat he looks middling at best.

Like a fun fighter to watch, but not much else.
He's the striking coach at Syndicate MMA. Very tough, hits hard.

I'm not saying he'll definitely win, but it's no guarantee. Remember that Renfro got smoked by Mike Malott in 2 minutes less than a year ago.

Should be a fun fight, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it.

Renfro didn't really get smoked by Malott, he was piecing him up but got careless and got caught.

Any insight on Ryan Burgos (Shane's brother)?

Any reason why Rebecki vs Akhmedov was cancelled?

We need a hype train for Josh Wang-Kim. He looked awesome tonight.

Vladimir Mineev

Country - Russia
Weight Class - Middleweight
Age : 31
Promotion - FNG
Record - 16-1-1

Mineev is the fucking don and I think at this point probably the best fighter outside the UFC. The big test for him was always going to be the rematch against Magomed Ismailov who is one of the absolute best fighters outside the UFC in his own right. In a clash of two guys who are top 10 in the world, it was Mineev who prevailed, outlasting Ismailov, managing to avoid damage when taken down by constantly moving (Magomed takes HW's down, so hard to hold that against him) and gradually dealing more and more damage and starting to stuff the takedowns as he took over the fight en route to a TKO win.

Someone with this kind of mix of ability and mentality is hard to find. The UFC need to make him a good offer, they're running out of credible challengers for Adesanya and it looks like they'll have to recycle opponents for him, Mineev is a credible threat.

Renat Khavalov

Country - Russia
Weight Class - Bantamweight
Age : 23
Promotion - EFC
Record - 5-0

Renat really impressed me the first time I saw him but he took it to the next level this time. He's just a non stop offensive machine of high paced striking and grappling which looks like an absolute nightmare to try and fight against. He really didn't give his poor opponent a second to even think about getting back into the fight in this one, just utterly dominating with the grappling, quick takedown entries, speed and power on the feet and then nasty ground and pound to finish. Absolutely top tier prospect imo.

Shamil Akhmedov/Erdogan

Country - Russia
Weight Class - Light heavyweight
Age : 30
Promotion - EFC
Record - 8-0

This dude fights like the school bully reminding a kid several years younger than him why he really should be giving him his lunch money, it doesn't look fun for his opponent at all. He's just so fucking strong. After getting utterly manhandled and beaten up for the first round Celestino attempts to fight back at the start of the 2nd but immediately feels like.

and gets beaten up again and taps to strikes.

Levi Mowles

Country - USA
Weight Class - Bantamweight
Age : 26
Promotion - FFC
Record - 16-4

A bit of a breakout performance from Mowles as he absolutely dominated Sherdog worldwide favourite Johnny Cupcakes Campbell. He just looked better in every facet of the fight, winning the striking and just absolutely dominating when it came to the grappling. He made Campbell look like a bad fighter, which anyone who saw him beat Henry Corrales in Bellator knows isn't the case.

We need a hype train for Josh Wang-Kim. He looked awesome tonight.

He looked good, but he was fighting a guy who was basically a fat strawweight. I'll need to see him against a real dude before he gets a hype train. See if he can still do what he wants when something credible is coming back.

You'd have to think Mowles gets signed, right?

UFC or Bellator?

Yeah I thought so too. But I like the Twin Dragons angle, although John is only 1-0.

They both have extensive amateur records though, identical at 15-1 with a split decision loss.

The only loss was to Jesse Strader though, I haven't seen the fight but Strader is extremely average.

Kiril Kornilov remains undefeated at HW, 1st round finish of Squidward. Do you rate Kornilov particularly high, TS?

He's incredibly active.

Yeah he's good. He did have one incredibly tough fight against Wagner Prado which he barely won, but other than that he's been able to cruise really. I'd like to see him fight someone like Popov maybe for more of a test.

I didn't wanna make a separate thread for this but anyone who speaks russian can tell me what was going on after the fight what did ismailov say?
Judging from the comments he was a sore loser, I thought the fight was great no shame in losing
