ONE on Friday

MW - #4 Reiner De Ridder (31/Netherlands/15-0) defends his belt against Vitaly Bigdash (12-2) in what I think is quite a difficult style matchup.

First thing first, love your thread! You and @Kryptt and the sherdoggers that always remind me of what's going on outside the UFC & Bellator.

I have to say, I'm surprised you only singled out Reinier vs Bigdash from this entire card, since ONE 159 is the event I'm the most excited for this week end!
Reinier vs Bigdash is, of course, the most important fight of the card

but the entire event looks like it will be a lot of fun!

MMA is my favorite fighting sport, but I enjoy it when ONE has some grappling/muay thai/kickboxing bouts here and there during cards.
It reminds me of PRIDE and other late Japanese orgs, where we would have random TMA contest during the card... the kind of stuff that would NEVER happen in the UFC!

Like that grappling bout between Yoshida and Royce Gracie,
or that karate Kyokushin match-up between Hiroki Kurosawa vs Nobuaki Kakuda

(RIP Kurosawa, the "Japanese Wolf" who passed away in 2017 from acute heart failure at only 54 years old... )
Nobuaki Kakuda is another karate legend, that I had the extreme luck of watching fight live in 2005 at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2005 in Paris which was headlined by the insane Jérôme Le Banner vs Cyril Abidi kickboxing bout.
Kakuda ko'd the Soul Collector Mavrick Harvey, that I would come to be very familiar with when he had a legendary trilogy of fight against mah man Shannon "The Cannon" Ritch, winning the first 2 bouts before, a full decade later, The Cannon fired at him with bad intention in the 3rd bout and finally picked up a win against his bitter rival!
The event it happened, UR Fight 1, at featured a grappling bout between Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping
(t'was kinda boring, Bisping put up a much better fight than expected though... but cool to see big stars at a relatively small event! Roy Jones Jr beat up some fan in the ring too, so there were lots of boxing fans there; I was probably the only guy there to watch Shannon the Cannon take revenge on his old nemesis ^^ Rampage was commentating and signed some autographs too)
was supposed to also have Dan Severn vs Ken Shamrock headlining, but Ken pulled out for shady reasons, so Tank Abbott bravely got out of retirement but Tank couldn't get medically cleared to fight, which was 4 years after he had already gotten out of retirement to fight Warpath after being inactive for 4 years

(Ruben Warpath, the dude everyone gets out of retirement for at least once to beat up... Bas Rutten, Don Frye, Wes Sims, and I'm likely forgetting others ... that's not a bad gimmick frankly)
To copy a post I've made in another post that didn't get noticed (to be fair It was in a thread that had nothing to do with ONE) =>

Sakuraba is still my favorite fighter ever, so I was pretty hyped at ONE Championship 156 when the "Diadem Spider", Tae Ho Jin entered the ring with KS shorts, submitted his opponent with the "Renzo special" and did that cool post-fight pose after winning

It's great to watch the new generation pay tribute to their idols, in only 4 days I'll be rooting for Tae Ho Jin/Jin Tae Ho at ONE 159 against Valmir "Junior" Da Silva, that's for sure!
Plus the main event, for the LW belt, should be interesting.
The 15-0 champion, Reinier De Ridder aka The Dutch Knight who will be defending his title for the 3rd time
(his latest match-up at ONE was a grappling bout against André Galvão though, which ended in a draw... I really need to watch that one!)
against top contender and former ONE MW champion Vitaly Bigdash (12-2)

It should be a neat, high level grappler vs striker match-up, so don't forget to tune in guyz! 22/7/2022 , only 4 days left, don't miss it, blablabla
7 MMA bouts, 2 Muay Thai bout, 2 Kickboxing bouts, and 1 grappling match!

Ok, Reinier De Ridder is a pretty big favorite, but surprises happen all the time in MMA!

I'm real excited about the second Muay Thai bout, in which we have the Elbow Zombie Muangthai P.K. Saenchaimuaythaigym, who is a 3x Lumpinee champion (2012, 2016 & 2018)
vs
Vladimir Kuzmin, who got the Silver medal at the 2017 Olympic World Games, only losing in the finale against notorious badass Sergei Kulyaba
(and more recently won a WAR against Chris Shaw at ONE:Full Circle , the entire event was full of badass fights, I recommend watching the whole thing without spoilers if you're bored and there's nothing live going on)

Anyway, I'll be rooting for Jin Tae Ho (let's hope he'll pay another tribute to Sakuraba, like his "Two-Face" haircolor he had once, or wear one of his masks during his entrance or something) against Da Silva.

Then my man Hiroba Minowa against Bokang Masunyane.
"Lil' Minowaman/Lil' Punk" has made some interesting comments about his opponents, like Masunyane is way more athletic than him, and that Japanese people can only dream of having the genetics that the "Little Giant" is rocking...
Hiroba Minowa (13-3) will be facing Bokang Masunyane (8-1) in a featured bout on the main card of ONE Championship‘s ONE: 159 fight card in Singapore on July 22.
Minowa, a 22-year-old fighter from Japan spoke to ONE Championship officials ahead of his fight against the 28-year-old “Little Giant” from South Africa.

“I only want to become a World Champion. I know as long as I fight at ONE, I have to face strong opponents.

“[Masunyane] is an amazing athlete. He has the best physical ability. He has the best agility. Even if we Japanese train hard, we cannot achieve his level of agility. I’m so jealous. But I feel like we have something in common with a humble and tough mentality.”

Both Minowa and Masunyane are each coming off losses to one of the division’s top competitors in Jarred Brooks. The upcoming fight at the Singapore Indoor Stadium will determine which fighter moves back up the ladder towards a title shot.

From what I've read, Minowa seems to be the underdog there.
Both guys were on some nice winning streaks, before the both lost against Jarred Brooks in their respective latest bouts...

I hope whoever wins this one gets to fight the winner of Joshua "The Passion" Pacio vs Brooks.
And the loser of this fight gets the loser of the other one.
The 4 combinations would make for some cool match-ups IMHO

I've already talked about the other match-ups I'm interested in previously... this should be a good card, no way I'm missing this one!
@Kryptt , will you be making a thread for ONE 159? thanks bro!

edit: oh shit, just realized that Ariel "Tarzan" Sexton who will be fighting Marat on this event was the guy who made Roger Huerta tap (standing up) to strikes a few years ago, after their insane scrap!

Some internet tough guys gave Huerta shit for tapping out while standing up, but after that crazy war they had, if he says he has nothing left I believe him.

Mods got one stickied already!

I'll send a call before the event or before I slab it.

ACA is also at 11 am and I have a bit of morning work to do... Rather not miss either but I'm up at 8am at the latest anyhow sooo..

<RomeroSalute>

Dayum, how did I miss that thread? Thanks man, time to post my predictions there too...

I see you voted for Valmir Da Silva against Tae Ho Jin, did... well you know what, I'll ask you there instead of derailing this fine thread any further ^^

Cheers buddy, I hope you'll be able to make it!

Dawid Śmiełowski has a real chance to beat Parnasse in my opinion. Dude is also a just bleed god, every fight is entertaining. Knockout power with solid wrestling and sub game. He should definitely be ranked

Yeah, not his finest hour. I'm sure he'll be back. I still believe.
He looked VERY hittable and unwilling to trade. He had a smart, although boring af, game plan. Hopefully, he gets a quick comeback, like Borralho. But honeslty, based on that performance Acacio had a more "UFC friendly style". He went to brawl whereas Turkalj went to play it smart. Dana hates that shit.

I think a lot of it was due to the time off. He's very arrogant so I think he thought he was going to run through him easily, then he got cracked and must not have liked the pop he felt.

Being an undefeated, European, LHW prospect might make Dana reconsider, though. That in itself is pretty valuable in MMA today.

Yeah, I think it will help that he's a handsome fucker and usually has charisma too. I can imagine Maynard (I think 205 is his) suggesting a reconsideration perhaps.
He'll get as many chances on the contender series as he needs realistically speaking. He'll likely be on again this season considering the lack of damage taken.

@Hellowhosthat curious why Abdisalam Kubanychbek is not in your rankings?

He has too many fights for someone his age for the rankings. He's pretty good but a bit boring. I think he probably deserves a chance in a major promotion but I don't see him as a ranked fighter or anything.
