Limelight My big stupid hype trains thread.

There is also Rasulov, one of the first who left ACB/ACA to sign with UFC and then returning. I think also Chuzhigaev, Bilostenniy left ACA (Ibragim I remember was in UAE in 2020 to take a short notice fight for UFC and Bilostenniy was saying that he left to sign with Western promotion) to get signed with UFC/bigger org. I remember reading that Nikaev is with Bellator because UFC wasn't interested in signing him.
Is it all visa issues or is the UFC just very stingy with contracts for Russian guys. I am thinking the second since Rizvan Kuniev didn't get a contract and the bar for HW on Contender Series is pretty low

Mateusz Figlak

Country - Poland
Weight Class - Welterweight
Age : 26
Promotion - Cage Warriors
Record - 6-1

Exceptionally violent performance by Figlak who gives their family the highly impressive and sought after distinction of being the first two brothers to both get hype train posts from hellowhosthat from the Sherdog karate forums.

Just constant violence and intent to hurt his opponent, battering him with violent ground and pound constantly in a performance that kind of brought Jack Hermansson to mind. He's 6-1 and on an upward trajectory and with his only defeat being to Ian Garry that's not really much of a blemish either. I'd like to see some combination of him/Urholin/Rhys McKee for the WW title next.

George Hardwick

Country - England
Weight Class - Lightweight
Age : 26
Promotion - Cage Warriors
Record - 8-1

An absolutely career best performance from Hardwick as he battered a 9-1 Czech opponent in Jakub Donhal. Hardwick's forward pressure was absolutely relentless and his combination punching all over the body looked awesome, showed really nice offensive grappling when the opportunity presented itself too and really dominated in every facet of the fight en route to a sub victory.

Phumi Nkuta

Country - USA
Weight Class - Flyweight
Age : 25
Promotion - CFFC
Record - 4-0

Phumi is the latest product off of the Serra/Longo production line and he's certainly an impressive prospect. Although he's pretty inexperienced, he doesn't really have any obvious weaknesses to his game. He has really nice movement on the feet, very quick hands, is very quick at moving in and out, has excellent wrestling, is good at floating from position to position on top and seems to have an excellent gas tank too. That's the kind of combination that could cause problems for anyone. Now he's the CFFC champ it'd be nice to see him defend the title against Curatolo, or perhaps fight a more experienced Flyweight like Eric Shelton or something to give him that big pre-UFC test.

A quite lackluster for this season DWCS on Tuesday

- Shimon Smotriskiy (21/Israel/WW/7-0) fighting Mike Malott (31/Canada/WW/6-1-1)
Malott is an interesting character.

He's 29, and has only fought twice in the last 4 years -- against opponents who were respectively 6-0 and 6-1. His only career loss is to Hakeem Dawodu in 2014. His last win was over Solomon Renfro who is fighting on DWCS on October 19.

I remember the Renfro fight well as I've followed Solomon for a long time. He was pretty much getting his ass kicked but then managed to catch Renfro with a well timed shot and took advantage, I think Renfro probably wins 8/10 fights between them.

Not directly related to the thread but if anyone watched CFFC - Massive Ref (Peterson) botch in Pierrsma vs Vereen...

@Hellowhosthat
Glad you included Sousa there, the guy hits like a truck. Albeit he is a bit reckless on the feet, and got clipped bad against a guy in a fight Billy Q was one of commentators, but has extensive MT background, so good tecnique to go along his power. His grappling is a little sloppy but he is very strong in the clinch therefore the upside might be there.

And again, the guy FOLDS people with one punch, that's scary. Very intriguing prospect.

Rustam-Kerimov.jpg

Rustam Kerimov

Country - Russia
Weight Class - Bantamweight
Age : 29
Promotion - ACA
Record - 15-0

In all honesty it's a bit of an embarrassment that Kerimov isn't in the UFC already, the guy is probably a top 5 BW in the world. He made his return from a couple of years of inactivity while trying and ultimately failing to secure a UFC contract. The first round he was a little more rusty than Rustam, but he still won the round, after that he settled back in and showcased the same dynamic striking and the best takedown entries in the sport that make him what he is. Put on a show of utter dominance over Daniel Jubileau, and anyone who knows how good Jubileau is knows how impressive it is to thoroughly dominate the guy.

Abdul-Rakhman Dudaev

Country - Russia
Weight Class - Bantamweight
Age : 30
Promotion - ACA
Record - 27-6

Man, did Dudaev ever show up in killer mode for this one. Normally, he's a lot of fun to watch with his creative striking mixed with wrestling and entertaining scrambly grappling, but on this occasion he decided to just come and kill the guy. Maybe a more ruthless of Dudaev will be even more successful than he has been already. I doubt he'll ever move to a major Western promotion and I think he's an ACA lifer, but he's still worth highlighting.

Honourables to

Maycon Silva (29/Brazil/FLW/16-5) who technically lost his fight but got utterly robbed and showed great offensive grappling from everywhere.

An apology is in order after that absolute banger of a card last night. White/Valdez was one of the craziest fights I've ever seen.

lol it was good fun, but I will stand by my belief that those fighters won't do much in the UFC.
I'm putting you on notice that you are wrong.

White/Valdez/Barez/Hernandez/Garcia/Malott will all win fights in the UFC.

Depends who they get booked against I suppose. I think Malott is the most likely to be able to stick around long term. Fernie I've seen several times in the LFA and he's made hard work of not top of the LFA food chain competition. Barez and Hernandez I think will be eclipsed by people like Hadley. Valdez will need to perform much more calmly than that and I'm not sure how well White's spazzy bum rush attack will work in a division like LW.
