Limelight My big stupid hype trains thread.

Anthony Romero's UFC hopes are over for now, he lost a decision and his unbeaten record to fellow DWCS alumni, JJ Okanovich (now 8-2).

He looked absolutely shit too. I wasn't impressed with his DWCS performance or his LFA performance but I figured I'd give him another chance. I don't think I'll be going out of my way to watch him again, unless he's on a card I'm watching anyway or against someone else I'm interested in.

Yeah I could totally see why Dana passed on him, too.

You think Junior beats Nasrudinov? Seems like, on paper, he's going to get outwrestled I think.

I think it's the true test if just how good he is at the Khabib style of grappling he's employed. If he can make it work against a Russian wrestler then that's quite the statement.

Cristian-Perez-vs-Dumar-Roadk.jpg

Cristian Perez

Country - Mexico
Weight Class - Lightweight
Age : 22
Promotion - Combate Global
Record : 6-0

Another one of this special generation of Mexican lighter weight class fighters, Perez seems to be a submission machine with all but one of his wins coming by first round sub. His opponent Dumar Roa is an experienced guy who's been in there with a few decent level fighters and been competitive, but Perez made him look like an absolute bum in there. Awesome pressure grappling and constant sub hunting until he finds one, the kid doesn't give anyone a minute to rest and gather their thoughts.

Big league talent imo.

Sergey Bilostenniy

Country - Russia
Weight Class - Heavyweight
Age : 25
Promotion - OFC
Record - 8-2

This dude is just getting ridiculously good now. There's not much I can say about him at this point really, so I'll just let the fight speak for itself.

Eduard Vartanyan

Country - Russia
Weight Class - Lightweight
Age : 30
Promotion - OFC
Record - 23-4

This was more the Hollywood performance that Eduard needs to achieve his goal of getting that UFC contract. Just an absolutely vicious beatdown interrupted briefly by having to fend off a few takedown attempts. Some of those elbows from the top were <6>

This week we have...

DWCS on Tuesday

- #1 LHW Jailton Almeida (30/Brazil/LHW/13-2) faces off against #7 LHW Nasrudin Nasrudinov (29/Russia/LHW/9-0) in an insanely high level fight for the contender series.
- #4 BW Mo Miller (29/USA/BW/5-0) tries to get a UFC deal against Brandon Lewis (24/USA/BW/5-0)
- Caio Bittencourt (30/Brazil/MW/14-6) is probably going to get his arse kicked against Albert Duraev (32/Russia/MW/13-3)
- Lukasz Brzeski (29/Poland/HW/8-1-1) should be able to secure a contract against blow up LHW Dylan Potter (26/USA/HW/10-5)
- Jack Della Maddalena (?/Australia/WW/9-2) fights Sanford MMA product Ange Loosa (27/Switzerland/MW/7-1)
- #4 WFLW Jasmine Jasudavicius (32/Canada/WFLW/5-1) takes on #4SW Julia Polastri (22/Brazil/SW/8-2)

CFFC on Thursday

- Zulkarnaiyn Kamchybekov (28/USA/LW/5-1) who's only loss is to current UFC fighter Matt Semelsberger fights Blake Smith (30/USA/LW/5-2)
- Paris Artis (27/USA/LW/4-0) fights 3-1 Feraris Golden Jr
- Andrew Richardson (25/USA/FLW/5-0) takes on 6-3 Jason Eastman

- Victor Dias (30/Brazil/FLW/9-2) defends his Flyweight belt against Ryskulbek Ibraimov.
- Dilano Taylor (24/USA/WW/6-1) defends his title against 11-7 Robert Turnquest

They've done an awful job of making us aware of what's on the card other than that and nothing is showing on Tap, but from what I can make out on their Twitter there's adecent prospects fighting in Ryan Kuse (27/USA/BW/4-0) who has been mentioned as fighting (but not who he's against) and Roybert Echeverria (26/Venezuela/FLW/6-0) is also on the poster.

Gemeos Fight Championship on Saturday

- Rose Brito (24/Brazil/WFLW/2-0) fights 1-1 Rafaela Das Chagas in a fight I'll check out if I can mainly because I need people to fill out the women's fly rankings

RIZIN on Sunday

- #3 BW Kai Asakura (27/Japan/BW/17-3) fights in the GP QF's against 18-4 Alan Yoshihiro Yamaniha
- Koji Takeda (26/Japan/LW/12-1) should fight for the title if he can get past 22-11 Yusuke Yachi
- Shiobu Ota (27/Japan/BW/0-1) lost his pro debut but you'd better believe I'm still interested in an Olympic silver medallist and world champion, he fights Yuta Kubo

Thunder Fight on Sunday

- Filipe Moitinho (26/Brazil/MW/6-0) fights 21-13 Jorge Bezerra
- Jhenifer Menezes (18/Brazil/SW/5-0) fights Janaina Silva (29/Brazil/SW/2-0)

Titan and fight card -- same annoying stuff is with some Russian promotions, for example Friday's Fight Nights/EFC event has officially announced something like 6 fights. Open FC next event has 0 fights announced (happens this month, I've seen unofficial report that Sergey Maslov is fighting some Kyrgyzstani guy), Fight Nights event with Piraev-Khamitov I think has something like 2 fights announced, Georgian EFC event I think has 1 fight that Khabib announced on press conference. Seems to me that it's what now Fight Nights and EFC are doing often -- announcing full card a day before weigh-in or at a day of weigh-in. I would understand if it was for events without crowds but seems like they sell tickets for this events.
Also if you are interested, I've seen that Lavrentyev is fighting at Parus FC in November, can't remember opponent, some Brazilian.

It doesn't make any sense to me, one would think that they would want people to know who was on the card so they could sell tickets.

Definitely interested in the Lavrentyev fight. I'm still surprised that guy isn't in the UFC with both his record and Yan pulling for him.

So I looked and it's Lavrentyev vs. Jesse Arnett.

Jake Hadley.. The other one you have been hyping a lot. Was to be on DWCS but lost his opponent for next week
Kleydson Rodrigues waiting on if he has new opponent still. .

I must admit thought Nasrudin Nasrudinov would win wondered why you ranked Jailton so much higher. Was wrong again that is why I avoid betting. :D

Nasrudinov looked off for sure, he looked out of shape and gassed after the first round, while Jailton looked impressive AF.

I was kinda low on Narsudinov going in after seeing his last fight because, like I said I think he needs to join ATT, but then I found out Jailton is actually at ATT (I think) so...that makes a ton of sense. Go to Sanford then.

What is an underrated truth is that, exceptions like Khabib and Islam obviously exist, but most Dagestanis need to learn MMA wrestling when they transition to MMA because they usually have like a freestyle heavy wrestling background. It's no different from an American with a folkstyle background, particularly learning mechanics of wrestling against the cage. I'm sure he's talented, but like I was very skeptical of the fact that (fwiw) on his instagram all his pictures of training were at Dagestani gyms or like he went to some notable kickboxing gyms but what he needed to improve was his MMA wrestling and you don't go to Paris for that.
