1st warmup set of squats & I could feel my knee whispering to me a little bit, so I decided to end the workout here. No pain in the knee, just didn't really feel 100%. I'm thinking that taking it easy today will mean that I'll be able to squat heavy on Monday with no pain.

Finally got to train again! I'm out of shape, but it felt good. Good crowd at King's today. Verdum, Machida & Teixeira were all there training with Master Cordeiro along with a group of about 20 other pros...

BJJ
- 1.5 Hours

Slightly different training today. worked with a partner & did 20 takedowns each, then 10 armbars, 10 triangles, 10 omoplatas & 10 armbars from closed guard each. Then 20 minutes of guard passing with the same partner (5 mins then switch top/bottom). I was pretty dead after this but stayed for sparring, which was 3 8-minute rounds. Absolutely dead at the end. So out of shape. Mayhem Miller was training at Kings today :-)
 
That sounds exhausting to me. Although at one time that would be my fist work out of 2 or 3 in a day.

Shoulder is a little sore from grappling yesterday, but overall felt pretty good. Now that I'm healthy & trying to resume my jiu-jitsu I'm going to have to figure out how to prioritize my workouts. I've been doing 4 days a week, but I don't think I can lift 4 days a week & get enough BJJ in. So I may need to drop the lifting to 2 or 3 days a week. and plan on BJJ 3-4 days a week.

Nice Friday afternoon workout. Deadlifts felt really good today. 425 was super easy, so I tried 455 & pulled it easier than I ever have. Felt good. Squats were good too. Knee was hurting later, don't know what to say about that except it makes me feel old as fuck. In other news, we're having a big Halloween party at my house. I've got the DJ booked, got the bartenders booked. Expecting about 50 people, maybe more. So it looks like I'm starting a hard-core diet for the next 2 weeks to try to get ready for Halloween. there's a slight chance I might be somewhat shirtless for my costume. I feel fat as fuck right now, so not gonna be easy. Should have started it a month ago.

Viking is always a solid shirtless costume.

You could break out you're kilt and do someone from brave heart.
 
Well we're looking for couples costumes. right now the ideas are:

- Playboy bunny & Hugh Heffner
- Tuxedos (since we're hosting the party)
- Tron
- Tinkerbell & Peter Pan

I'm just gonna let the wife figure it out & then I'll be her sidekick. Easier that way.

Got a nice & easy run in before breakfast this morning. Going to try to add some cardio on an empty stomach to help burn some fat. Also pretty much cutting carbs. We'll see how it goes.

Cold morning, run was a little tough, but got 30 mins of work in. Did a pretty good job on the diet over the weekend, but did have a martini last night, which probably wasn't great for me. I'm doing a pretty good job of avoiding rice, pasta, bread & sweets though.

Did a lot of Halloween decorating work over the weekend, getting excited for the party - house is gonna look sick.

Worked on an old-school spider-guard pass today. Specific training was good, spent 5 minutes trying to pass while the other guy stalled, then switched top/bottom. then another 10 minutes of guard passing while trying to sweep or submit from guard. Had 3 6 minute rounds of live rolling, did a little better than last week, so that's good. But I'm still slow and out of shape :) Even so, it feels good to be grappling again.

Played a game of basketball to warm up. Draining J's like [insert applicable simile here].

Bench felt heavy today. 275 should have been not much trouble, but everything was feeling heavy, so I asked for a spot & that's where I screwed up. I explained to the guy how to spot me. "Lift off, let go. Just grab the bar if I fail." Evidently that wasn't clear enough, because he lifted off & never let go of the bar. I did 4 assisted reps with this stupid skinnyleg motherfucker. "He was wearing a sleeveless shirt, I thought he was legit."
