My ADD Training Log - 2012

I recently applied to teach in Hawaii after I heard there was a demand for school teachers there. Your pictures confirm that I definitely want to go there!

Sounds cool! You should do it.

Vista Highland Games
(San Diego, CA)

Had a great time throwing today. Set a couple of PRs and finished 4th overall in the Men's "B" Class. I definitely have some things to work on. WOB & Sheaf were terrible, so were hammers. Really should be practicing more.

Open Stone: 37-5 <-- PR!!
LWFD: 54-7.75 <-- PR!!
HWFD: 23-2
LT Scottish Hammer: 86-11.5
Heavy Scottish Hammer: 69-2
WOB: 10-0
Sheaf: 17-0
Caber: 10:30 (17'6" - 72#)

That looks so awesome!

How long and how heavy is that?? Or is that the caber that you have listed (don't know what a caber is haha).

Yes, its the one I have listed, it was 17'6" long & 72 lbs. They're not that heavy, just really awkward. If you move it 6" at the bottom then it moves a couple of feet at the top & then you can lose it. It also takes a lot of timing to turn one, especially one as long as this one.

And a caber is a big stick :)

Tired & sore from yesterday, but had a good solid workout today despite the soreness.

EDIT: I should add that my general goals with the programming modification is to increase the intensity & also increase my recovery time. I plan on trying this for 3 months to see how things feel & then possibly moving to 4 days a week with BBB assistance for the last 3 months of the year while trying to put on some weight. I'll figure that out in September.

Short workout today, had to get back to the office. Deads felt pretty good. Overhead press was a little tough, but haven't done it in a while. Very short rest periods for everything. Was in the gym about 50 minutes including a 5 minute warmup.

Mid year is approaching, so I figured an update of how I'm doing towards my 2012 goals is in order. I've done well on the Highland Games throwing goals, not as good on the lifting goals, but I still have 6 months left & I feel these are all achievable before year end. Updates are in RED

2012 GOALS

TRAINING - Still working on #1,2 & 3 here..
1) Assistance Work. I need to work HARD on my assistance exercises. In 2011, I ignored assistance too often, or didn't go after it with enough intensity. I need to change this. I may have overdone it here. Next 6 months I'm actually simplifying my assistance work.
a) Start doing ab work. Ab work from BJJ is NOT enough. Ab work still sucks.
b) Focus on Posterior Chain work. I'm doing this 3x a week with my current schedule, so not going to add extra. I may start adding some unilateral work on an "extra" day because I think it will be good for me.
c) Start training Triceps and biceps. Never been consistent with this at all.Still working on this one. Thursday is my extra day for teh gunz when I can fit it in.
2) Dynamic Effort Work. I think some focus on lighter speed & technique work will pay big dividends. When I started squatting 3x a week my squats improved tremendously. I want to figure out how to do some lighter work on off days for other lifts as well. I still think this is a good idea, I'm currently working this in on Bench & Squat. One light day & 1 heavy day each week for both.

3) Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. More Consistency with my Jiu-jitsu training. This has been really difficult for me in the past 6 months, need to do better. If I'm consistent, I have a shot at getting my purple belt in 2012. Still working on this one.
