Crazy Rich Asians and Star Trek: Discovery star Michelle Yeoh is set to play scientist Dr. Karina Mogue in James Cameron’s forthcoming Avatar movies at the now Disney owned 20th Century Fox. The news was announced on the official Avatar social channels.

“Throughout her career, Michelle has always created unique and memorable characters. I look forward to working with Michelle to do the same thing on the Avatar sequels,” said Cameron.

Yeoh, whose credits include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Memoirs Of A Geisha, and Tomorrow Never Dies, will next be seen in Last Christmas, from director Paul Feig, and Joe Carnahan’s sci-fi action film, Boss Level. She was also recently tapped to headline a Star Trek Discovery spinoff, which is in development at CBS All Access.

Returning for the Avatar sequels are Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald and Sigourney Weaver. Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis and Oona Chaplin are also joining the sequels. Cameron recently explained that Stephen Lang’s Colonel Miles Quaritch is coming back for all four sequels and will be the main villain throughout the story. Filming officially started on Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 on September 25, 2017.

Shortly after, James Cameron announced young cast members for the sequel, which include the Sully family and children from the Metkayina Na’vi clan who live near ocean reefs, led by Tonowari (Cliff Curtis). The only actor who will appear in live-action playing a non-CGI character is Jack Champion as Javier “Spider” Socorro, a human teen born at the Hell’s Gate military complex seen in the first film.

John Cena in Talks to Replace Dave Bautista as Peacemaker in THE SUICIDE SQUAD

wVPzMJc.jpg

The time may be now for John Cena to join the “Suicide Squad” sequel. Sources tell Variety that Cena is in talks to join Idris Elba and Margot Robbie in Warner Bros.’ follow-up to 2016’s “Suicide Squad.”

[Update: According to Variety entertainment reporter Justin Kroll, Cena is rumored to be under consideration to play Peacemaker in the DC Extended Universe film. The actor would potentially be replacing fellow former WWE Superstar Dave Bautista, who allegedly had to pass on the role due to his busy schedule.]

Robbie is returning as Harley Quinn and Jai Courtney is back as Captain Boomerang. Variety first reported that the studio decided to have Elba play a brand-new character instead of taking on Deadshot, a character portrayed by Will Smith in the first film. It’s currently unknown who Cena and Elba will be playing.

James Gunn will write and direct the movie, which is expected to go into production this fall. The tentpole hits theaters on Aug. 6, 2021.

The original “Suicide Squad” — starring Smith, Robbie and Jared Leto — became a massive box office sensation when it hit theaters in 2016, grossing $746.8 million worldwide.

The film will mark Cena’s first comic-book role. Cena made his foray into acting after years as one of the top WWE stars. Cena’s most recent big-screen roles include Universal’s “Blockers,” alongside Leslie Mann and Ike Barinholtz. He followed that up with the “Transformers” spinoff “Bumblebee” with Hailee Steinfeld.

Cena was recently tapped by fellow WWE alum Dwayne Johnson to star in “The Janson Directive” and is also on board to topline the Paramount Players comedy “Playing With Fire.” Cena will also voice a character in Universal’s fantasy-adventure “The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle,” co-starring Robert Downey Jr. and Selena Gomez.

First Official Look at Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska in CHARLIE'S ANGELS

df-10961_10965_r.jpg

Charles Townsend, the titular Charlie of Charlie’s Angels, has turned the Townsend Agency into heaven on earth. No, really: In director Elizabeth Banks’ upcoming take on the elite all-women crime-fighting team, the camera-shy millionaire doling out missions has become — by conservative estimate — a gazillionaire.

It’s only logical. As Banks puts it, her update isn’t a reboot or a remake of the beloved franchise, but rather a “continuation” that incorporates the events of the original 1970s TV series and the McG-directed 2000s films. And so, she imagines, in the more than 40 years since Charlie assembled his first trio of Angels, he must have given his operation a makeover. “If you were rich in 1976, you only got richer,” Banks, who co-wrote the script, says with a laugh. “Charles Townsend is richer than ever, so he’s grown the business into a global spy agency.”

His expanded roster includes the crew at the center of Banks’ story: Sabina Wilson (Kristen Stewart), the hard-partying, highly skilled wild card; Jane Kano (Ella Balinska), the ex-MI6 muscle of the group; and Elena Houghlin (Aladdin’s Naomi Scott), the MIT-trained scientist who, Banks says, serves as “the heart of the movie.”

Disney Scraps MOUSE GUARD Two Weeks Before Production Set to Begin

GpCfDwm.jpg

Only two weeks before production was set to begin and with a number of starry castings under its belt, Mouse Guard, Fox's adaptation of the Archaia/Boom! Studios comic, has been halted by Fox's new parent company, Disney.

The move, which went down Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporterconfirmed, happens in the shadow Disney's acquisition of Fox, a deal finalized March 20.

The producers, which include Matt Reeves, Ross Ritchie and Stephen Christy, are being allowed to shop the project to other studios, sources indicated. Several studios are already interested. The project is a ready-to-go, four quadrant franchise starter from Wes Ball, the filmmaker behind the Maze Runner series, which grossed almost a billion dollars. One possible home could be Netflix, where Reeves, the filmmaker behind the acclaimed Planet of the Apes movies, has a production deal. Paramount, whose current motion picture head Wyck Godfrey was a producer on Maze Runner, is another possible contender.

Less clear are the reasons for the sudden red light. One source indicated that the production, which was to use motion capture and heavy digital effects to bring animals to life, veered too close to Disney's homegrown CGI-made fare such as The Lion King and The Jungle Book.

Another source said Disney does not want Fox in the big-budget game, which Mouse Guard, with a budget of $170 million, found itself in. Instead, Disney wants its new studio division to focus on lower-cost family movies, as well as PG-13 and R-rated fare. One of the few exceptions to this will be Avatar, the big-budget sci-fi movies series from James Cameron.

Another insider disputed this idea, saying Fox will not have a budget cap on its projects, saying that in the end, Disney simply balked at the movie itself, believing it too similar to its other fare, and at the film’s high price point.

Based on David Petersen's two-time Eisner winning comics and a graphic novel, Mouse Guard has been described as Game of Thrones for mice. Set in a human-free, medieval world, the comic follows the so-called "Mouse Guard," a group of mice who have sworn to protect their brethren from predators and other threats. WETA was providing the digital effects.

Andy Serkis, Idris Elba, Samson Kayo and Thomas Brodie-Sangster were attached to the project, with Jack Whitehall also circling a role. Motion-capture veteran Serkis was on board to play villain Midnight, a former Guard blacksmith who betrayed the order; Elba was set to take on the role of Celanawe, a former hero who was considered dead but is found; Brodie-Sangster was tapped to play Lieam, a young newbie to the Guard and Kayo was slated for Saxson, a rogue with a difficult temper. Whitehall was in talks for the role of Kenzie, a calm staff-wielder who often partners with Saxson.

The trailer looks awesome, and the gore reminds me of a Saw movie.

But I was waiting for a... louder... sample of what Mark Hammill sounds like as Chucky. Sounded like a damn whisper.

And, according to Bloody-Disgusting, the trailer reveals Chucky's new 'origin' -

In the original, Chucky is birthed by serial killer Charles Lee Ray after he uses magic to put his soul into a Good Guys doll. Here, a manufacture worker appears to put a faulty/hacked/whatever A.I. chip into a Buddi doll, which then rises maniacally in the background.

Not sure how I feel about this, if true.

The advances in AI is creepy, but the original's story of a serial killer using voodoo to transfer his soul into a doll, and the doll is trying to transfer the soul into a child, is far far creepier.

And, it means Mark Hammill doesn't have an on-screen appearance.

To me, the voodoo soul transfer was one of the absolute coolest thing about the movie to me. Chucky being and ACTUAL psychopath and not some hacked AI is MUCH MUCH creepier and better IMO.

WE HAVE ALWAYS LIVED IN THE CASTLE Starring Alexandra Daddario and Sebastian Stan

Two sisters (Alexandra Daddario and Taissa Farmiga) live secluded in a large manor and care for their deranged uncle (Crispin Glover). The rest of their family died five years before, under suspicious circumstances. When a cousin (Sebastian Stan) arrives for a visit, family secrets and scandals unravel. Based on the beloved Shirley Jackson novel. In Theaters and On Demand May 17.

If they don't keep the possessed doll aspect, why is this a Chucky movie? This would just be another AI gone wrong sci-fi movie that just happens to have a doll thrown in.

Cary Fukunaga's BOND 25 Cast Officially Revealed with Rami Malek to Play the Villain

nCmSrKX.png

In a special announcement on Thursday, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson together with director Cary Joji Fukanaga revealed who would be joining Daniel Craig in his fifth and final 007 outing, and teased elements of the plot, but didn't unveil a title.

Rami Malek, fresh from his Oscar-winning turn in Bohemian Rhapsody and rumoured as the main villain for some time, was official confirmed, alongside Lea Seydoux, reprising her role as Dr. Madelaine Swann from the previous Bond outing Spectre, plus Ben Whishaw who returns as Q, Ralph Fiennes as M and Naomie Harris as Miss Moneypenny. Also returning from Spectre are Jeffrey Wright and Rory Kinnear, while newcomers include Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049), Billy Magnussen (Game Night), Dali Benssalah, Lashana Lynch (Captain Marvel) and David Dencik (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy).

However, for those hoping for a title – the subject of much online speculation – Wilson said that this wasn't ready to announce, claiming that keeping it a secret was "a tradition."

Instead, fans were given details of the plot, which sees Bond having left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. But his peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

Fukanaga said the locations would include Jamaica, Norway, where they have already shot, Pinewood and London before finishing in Italy.

Bond 25, from longstanding 007 gatekeeper and producer Eon, is being released in the U.S. on April 8, 2020 by Metro Goldwyn Mayer through its United Artists Releasing joint venture with Annapurna, and through Universal and MGM in the U.K. and internationally from April 3, 2020.

Rather than the usual press conference at the U.K.’s Pinewood Studios, considered 007’s spiritual home, the announcement was made via a live-stream from Jamaica, the scene for iconic titles including Dr. No and Live and Let Die and the home of Bond creator Ian Fleming's Goldeneye villa. Most of the cast were in attendance, with the exception of Malek, who recorded a message from New York.

"I promise you all I will be making sure Mr. Bond does not have an easy ride of it in this, his 25th outing," he said.

The film has already been through more ups and downs than most Bond titles.

Trainspotting director Danny Boyle was originally set to helm from a script he had put together with his long-standing collaborator John Hodge. But they parted ways with Eon over “creative differences” and Fukunaga was announced in late 2018, with regular Bond scribes Neil Purvis and Robert Wade having returned to the writing team, later joined by The Bourne Ultimatum's Scott Z. Burns. Just last month, reports emerged that Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge had been brought on board to liven up the script. Waller-Bridge's involvement was confirmed by Wilson.

The various changes have seen the release of the film — which has already begun some pre-production work in Italy, Norway and Jamaica, and at its regular base at Pinewood — get pushed back several from late 2019 to February 2020 and now April 2020.
