Chris Rock Teams with Lionsgate to Relaunch SAW Horror Franchise

Chris Rock, the comedian known for his standup and his work on Saturday Night Live, and producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules, have teamed up to re-launch the Saw horror franchise for Lionsgate.

The movie company, which releases John Wick 3 on Friday, is moving quickly on the project, which is described as a re-imagining and a spinning-off of the franchise, and has set an Oct. 23, 2020 release date for the new iteration.

The movies, released between 2004 and 2017, grossed over $1 billion for Lionsgate, and centered on a serial killer named Jigsaw and his followers who concocted elaborate death traps with a moral hook for the victims. The initial movie launched the career of filmmaker James Wan and are among the most profitable movies produced.

“When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins-off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all-in,” said Lionsgate motion picture group chairman Joe Drake in a statement. “Saw is one of the highest grossing horror franchises of all-time and it’s one of Lionsgate’s most successful film series. This upcoming film will still be as mind bending and intense as all the previous Saw films. Chris conceived this idea and it will be completely reverential to the legacy of the material while reinvigorating the brand with his wit, creative vision and passion for this classic horror franchise.”

The screenplay is based on a story conceived by Rock and written by Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg. Darren Lynn Bousman, who helmed three of the eight movies in the Saw series, is back as helmer. with Burg and Koules producing.

“I’ve been a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004,” said Rock in Lionsgate's announcement. “I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place.”

Rick is also exec producing, with Wan and Leigh Whannell, who created the original 2004 movie, as well as Daniel Heffner joining him in that capacity.

Robert Pattinson Frontrunner to Play Batman in Matt Reeves' BATMAN Movie

AF28GNE.jpg

While a deal has not yet been made and it is unclear if there is an offer on the table, Robert Pattinson is a top contender play Batman in Matt Reeves' DC movie for Warner Bros.

It is also unclear who else is on Reeves' short list, but other names that have been floated alongside Pattinson's over the last month have been Armie Hammer, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Reeves, who was behind the recent Planet of the Apestrilogy, took over directing duties on the superhero stand alone after Ben Affleck stpped away from the director's chair in 2017. Affleck would later leave his post altogether as the Caped Crusader, which allowed Reeves to revise the script for a younger Bruce Wayne.

Reeves will produce The Batman with his Planet of the Apes collaborator Dylan Clark.

Pattinson is no stranger to franchise fair, having starred in the incredibly popular Twilight series. But, as of late, the actor has gravitated toward smaller budgeted feature, like his most recent release Claire Denis' High Life. He will next be working with Warner Bros. on Christopher Nolan's new movie.

The Batman is set for a June 25, 2021.

Dude better hit the weights.

he has more muscle on him than Bale did before he took the role.
Bale had just filmed the machinist though and is known for doing insane things with his body weight quickly. I don't know that this guy has the same discipline. He needs to hit the weights.

Right. That's what I was trying to imply. Bale looked like a cancer patient and got pretty bulky (though his frame allows for it). There is a question of Mr.Twilight can get that big. My guess is they'll have him on a pretty strict regimen

Michael Fassbender, Jamie Foxx and Peter Dinklage are in talks to star in Mel Gibson's remake of The Wild Bunch, the violent and influential Western for Warner Bros., The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Bryan Bagby was earlier announced as on board to co-write the script with Gibson, who will also executive produce the movie. The Wild Bunch starred William Holden and Ernest Borgnine, among others, and was nominated for Oscars for original screenplay and score. The movie is considered the zenith in the filmography of Peckinpah, who also helmed such pics as Straw Dogs and The Getaway.

Fassbender is also set to star in Kung Fury 2, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Eiza Gonzalez and David Hasselhoff, a follow-up to the cult 2015 short Kung Fury. Foxx is set to appear in ABC's live restaging of All in the Family and The Jeffersons, set for a May 22 airing as episodes of the two classic sitcoms are re-created.

And Dinklage will star alongside Josh Brolin as unlikely brothers in Brothers, a comedy from Legendary Entertainment to be written by Etan Cohen.

And Gibson has as his next project Rothschild, where he stars alongside Shia LaBeouf, with Jon S. Baird (Stan & Ollie) in the director's chair. And he is also on board to direct Destroyer, the World War II Navy movie.

Daniel Craig to Undergo Minor Ankle Surgery After Injury Filming Bond 25

f8WZKD1.jpg

Daniel Craig will undergo minor ankle surgery resulting from an injury sustained while filming the upcoming James Bond film.

"Production will continue whilst Craig is rehabilitating for two weeks post-surgery. The film remains on track for the same release date in April 2020," read a statement posted Wednesday on the franchise's official Twitter account. Bond producer Eon hadn't previously commented on reports of the injury.

The movie unveiled its cast in April. Rami Malek will portray the villain this time around, while Ben Whishaw will return as Q. Also, Lea Seydoux will reprise her role from 2015's Spectre as Dr. Madeleine Swann, Naomie Harris will return as Miss Moneypenny and Ralph Fiennes will be back as M.

Details of the plot revolve around how Bond is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica (where Craig was injured during filming) after leaving active service. But, naturally, his peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain (played by Malek) armed with dangerous new technology.

In addition to Jamaica, filming locations include Norway, Pinewood and London before finishing in Italy.

Producers on the film are Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, along with director Cary Joji Fukunaga.

This marks Craig's fifth time playing Bond, surpassing Pierce Brosnan's four films, but trailing Sean Connery and Roger Moore, who each played 007 in seven films.

Bond 25 is set to bow April 8, 2020 domestically through MGM's United Artists and Annapurna.
