Ezra Miller Now Writing THE FLASH Script with Grant Morrison to Stay on Board as Star

Z7T6wRF.jpg

In a bid to keep himself involved as the Scarlet Speedster, actor Ezra Miller is taking a hands-on approach to The Flash. Miller is taking a stab at writing the script for the Warner Bros. project, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. He has teamed up with Grant Morrison, the acclaimed comics author, to pen a draft that could determine if he stays on as star, playing crimefighter Barry Allen.

The development has bubbled up from a clash of creative visions. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who have been on board the project since January 2018, have a light-hearted approach to the material (and even hail from that sort of background, with credits like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Game Night). And, as sources note, that is the general track favored by Warners, which scored a billion-dollar hit with Aquaman by going the fun spectacle route and is seeing strong buzz on Shazam!, which is wearing its “superheroics is fun” on its sleeve .

Miller is said to want a darker take on the material.

The two sides have been working on compromises since last year but Miller took the initiative to tackle the story himself. He partnered with Morrison, with Warners hiring the two to script their take. It is a rare move for an actor to be so invested in a superhero project that they switch hats, but Miller sees himself as deeply committed to the character.

Despite its namesake, Flash has been anything but in its journey to the silver screen, going through several directors and writers. Miller, however, has been a constant, having been first cast by filmmaker Zack Snyder for the role in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and embracing the role fully in Justice League.

The script could be submitted to the studio as early as next week.

But there could be a lot riding on it. If Warners chooses against Miller's take on the hero, the actor could part ways with the project. Additionally, and fittingly for a hero who races to beat the clock, there is a countdown scenario here as well: according to one insider, Miller’s holding deal on Flash expires May.

Despite the clashes on Flash, Miller remains a presence on the Warners lot. He has played a key character in the studio’s Fantastic Beasts movies and is expected to shoot the third installment at the end of this year.

Nicolas Cage is set to topline writer-director-producer Dimitri Logothetis’ sci-fi martial arts movie Jiu Jitsu. He will star alongside Alain Moussi, who headlined the last two Kickboxer movies, in which Logothetis was also involved.

Based on the comic book of the same name, which Logothetis wrote with Jim McGrath, the film features Moussi as a Jiu Jitsu fighter who every six years must face off against an alien invader, Brax. Cage’s character teams up with him in a battle to defeat Brax.

The feature will be produced by Logothetis and Martin Barab with Highland Film Group handling worldwide sales, which are currently underway at Hong Kong Filmart.

“After we successfully reintroduced the Kickboxer franchise to a new generation of martial arts fans with the sixth and seventh entries in the series, we set out to up the ante with a sci-fi martial arts franchise that could bring the same kind of intensity and longevity to a new arena,” Logothetis said of the project.

Cage was recently seen in the psychedelic action-horror film Mandy and heard in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Moussi will be seen in the upcoming Kickboxer: Armageddon. Logothetis directed 2018’s Kickboxer: Retaliation and the upcoming Kickboxer: Armageddon.

Christopher Nolan's Next Movie Casts BlacKkKlansman Actor John David Washington

John David Washington is set to star in Christopher Nolan's next film, THR has confirmed. Nolan's next project will be produced by the Dunkirk director and his partner Emma Thomas. Warner Bros. earlier announced that Nolan's upcoming untitled film will open in Imax on July 17, 2020.

Washington, star of Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman, is also the son of Denzel Washington.

The upcoming project is described as an event film, but nothing else is known about Nolan’s latest venture. The writer-director has a propensity for secrecy, penning his scripts away from any prying eyes. Nolan is also of such a stature that he can attract the actors he wants, package his project with talent and then present it to a studio with what amounts to a simple yes or no question: Are you in or are you out?

Nolan is coming off of the World War II film Dunkirk, which won three Academy Awards and earned the filmmaker his first best director Oscar nomination. The Warner Bros. film grossed $526.9 million globally.

Washington was one of the stars of HBO’s Ballers, but it is was his performance in BlacKkKlansman that earned him leading-man status. In the movie, which earned a best picture nomination, the actor played a police officer who infiltrates the KKK, with the part being dramatic, comedic and even romantic.

Nolan is currently more than 20 years into his filmmaking career. After releasing his $6,000 feature debut, Following, in 1998, he broke out with 2000's Memento, which earned him and his brother, Jonathan Nolan, best screenplay Oscar nominations. He has gone on to carve out a reputation for crafting cerebral blockbusters, which have also included 2002's Insomnia and 2006's The Prestige.

Robert Pattinson in Talks to Join Christopher Nolan's New Event Movie

6ufqCSg.jpg

Following the addition of BlacKkKlansman‘s John David Washington, Collider reports that Robert Pattinson (Good Time) is in talks to star as one of the leads in Academy Award-nominated director Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film for Warner Bros. Pictures.

According to the outlet, a female lead and an older male co-star are currently being cast for the film; however, further details about the plot and characters are still being kept under wraps.

Pattinson is most well known for playing Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga film series adaptation. He has also appeared in many dramatic roles including the 2010 romantic drama Remember Me, Water for Elephants opposite Reese Witherspoon, the biopic Life, and the critically-acclaimed crime drama Good Time. He will next be seen in the sci-fi feature High Life starring alongside Juliette Binoche and Mia Goth; and in Antonio Campos’ The Devil All the Time.

So why is Nolan’s mysterious new project an event film? That’s because Warner Bros. has treated every post-The Dark Knight Nolan movie as an event film. It’s a strategy that’s largely worked out. Inception made $828 million internationally. Both Interstellar and Dunkirk followed with over half-a-billion each, worldwide. With that kind of record, the “event film” claim isn’t that dubious.

Launched in 1982, the toy line was notable for an ever-expanding roster of colorful characters with weird gimmicks — like “Mekaneck,” whose neck extends, or “Man-E-Faces,” who transforms his head from human to robot to monster — and for minicomics included with every toy that explained and expanded the line’s lore.

The line’s popularity was boosted by “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” an animated series produced by Filmation from 1983-1985. That show spawned a feature animated film “He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword,” and the for-television “He-Man & She-Ra: A Christmas Special,” launching the successor “She-Ra: Princess of Power” cartoon and line of toys.

“Masters of the Universe” was previously adapted as a live-action film in 1987, with Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor, and featuring Courtney Cox in one of her first film roles.

Hot off the success of Netflix’s “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” and “Sierra Burgess Is A Loser,” Centineo just began production on “To All The Boys 2” and will be seen in “Charlie’s Angels” later this year.

If you're expecting this to be a macho, testosterone fuelled, alpha male fantasy epic, I think you're going to be sorely dissapointed.

I have no idea what they'll do with this property in 2019> the mind boggles. But I'm guessing it'll be dripping with irony and modern social commentary.

Also that pic is taken before he hits the weights in prep for the role, duh.

Yeah, but a guy like Dolph didn't have to hit the weights to get there. He was already there. This guy might still be undersized to play He-Man, duh.

It is entirely possible that they could fuck this up with politics, etc. That would definitely be a Hollywood thing to do.

So the sole requirement for you to cast He man is hes gotta be 6foot4, 220pounds?

Do you know how many good actors there are that are big blonde muscle men?

Not many.

A studio has to look for a talented actor foremost, then take into consideration height/physique. Not just hire some big talentless fitness model.

I dont know this kids dimensions, I'll assume hes at least 6foot - good enough. Just has to hit the weights then.

Get a clue

If you can't cast a believable He-man, your movie might just be shit at the box office. Good luck to whoever is selling it.

His name is He-man....should look like one......rather it be John Cena.

Elizabeth Debicki Joins Robert Pattinson in Christopher Nolan's Untitled Event Movie

Uys3vKr.jpg

Elizabeth Debicki and Robert Pattinson are on board to co-star with John David Washington in Christopher Nolan's next movie, Variety has learned.

Nolan recently finished the script for the currently untitled film and Warner Bros. quickly dated it for July 17, 2020 — a slot the studio often reserves for the director, most recently with Dunkirk. Not only was that film a success at the box office, bringing in $526 million worldwide, but it also earned Nolan an Oscar nomination for director, his first in the category.

The project has become one of the more highly coveted ones in Hollywood, even though most of the industry has been kept in the dark about everything from casting to plot details. One insider described the pic as a massive action blockbuster, which will again be shown in Imax.

Nolan is also producing along with his partner Emma Thomas. Production is set to commence later this year.

Debicki is coming off a huge year, having starred in Netflix’s Cloverfield Paradox and Widows while also voicing a character in Peter Rabbit. She recently wrapped production on the upcoming HBO horror series Lovecraft Country.
