Something about these Disney live-action remakes just feels off...

Dragonlordxxxxx thanks for all your hard work. I've been following MNN for years and is my go-to for Movie news.

IT chapter 2 trailer should be dropping in the next few weeks i assume.

Live action just does not work well for them, jungle book was good as i'll bet so will lion king. But no actor can step into the shoes of the hand drawn characters and match up. Same reason why anime to hollywood is a disaster.

imagine a live action Vegeta, id cry from laughter.
Agree about Jungle Book. It was the only Disney live action I rated highly here. I have not seen Lion King and do not really intend to. I suppose that one could be good to though because it is all animals and not people as you pointed out.

12 Short Term Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton to Direct Marvel Studios' SHANG-CHI Movie

Marvel Studios has hired its director for Shang-Chi, the project that will feature the studio's first Asian lead. Destin Daniel Cretton will direct the feature, based on the classic character known for his martial arts prowess.

Cretton broke out with the 2013 indie favorite Short Term 12, which starred Brie Larson as a woman working in a group home for teenagers. Cretton reteamed with Larson for 2017's The Glass Castle, and he is currently directing the Captain Marvel star and Black Panther's Michael B. Jordan in Just Mercy, based on the memoir of Equal Justice Initiative founder Bryan Stevenson.

Other filmmakers who were in the running for Shang-Chi included Dear White People's Justin Tipping, Master of Young's Alan Yang, who is behind the upcoming John Cho movie Tigertail, and Deborah Chow, whose credits include episodes of Reign, Jessica Jones and the upcoming Star Wars Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

Shang-Chi, who in the comics is half-Chinese and half-American, first appeared in 1973’s Special Marvel Edition No. 15 and was created by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin after Marvel failed to acquire the comic book rights to the television series Kung Fu. Shang-Chi was trained as a martial artist assassin by his father, the infamous pulp villain Fu Manchu, but later became a hero after rebelling against his father's ways. Shang-Chi was a hit character in the '70s, and recently saw a revival as a member of The Avengers during 2012’s Marvel Now! Publishing event.

Wonder Woman 1984 screenwriter Dave Callaham is penning the script for Shang-Chi and will update the character for modern audiences. Marvel is said to be planning on assembling a largely Asian-American and Asian cast for this feature.

Marvel head Kevin Feige is producing, with Marvel’s Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Jonathan Schwartz executive producing.

News of Shang-Chi comes as Marvel eyes an end to the 11-year journey it began with 2008's Iron Man and will in some ways conclude with next month's Avengers: Endgame. Aside from Spider-Man: Far From Home (July 5), the studio has not revealed its post-Endgame plans, though films it has in the works include sequels to Black Panther and Doctor Strange; a Black Widow prequel and The Eternals.

2nd Trailer for James Gunn's "Superman Turned Evil" Movie BRIGHTBURN

What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? With Brightburn, the visionary filmmaker of Guardians of the Galaxy and Slither presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror.

This film looks very interesting, but they are clearly borrowing a lot from Superman's orgins. Sony must be paying DC/WB royalties, else I don't see how they pull this off without a law suit.

Don't waste your time with Triple Frontier
That shit belongs in the dvd section at a gas station.

Relax bitches, Tony and Cap are still front n centre, along with Thor and Hulk, they'll still be the main players. Danvers just gonna be the lil extra fire power they need, the roster looking a little thin after the ol finger snap.

Notice none of the main Avengers got disappeared?

Notice none of the main Avengers got disappeared?

Of course I did, whilst watching IW.

I took it to mean that the ones that got disappeared would be continuing into the next phase, and the ones remaining would be bidding farewell after End game.

Of course, there are exceptions, and arguably some of the main players suffered the snap also.

I gotta go back to work or id post it but yall should post the trailer to the head hunter. Comes out april 5th, medieval horror. Looks good

Disney Reinstates James Gunn as Director of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

In a remarkable turn of events, Disney has reinstated James Gunn as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Disney fired Gunn in July 2018, after old, offensive tweets from the filmmaker were resurfaced by conservative personalities online. The firing was controversial, with Guardians of the Galaxy stars, including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper and Dave Bautista, signing an open letter asking for the filmmaker to be rehired. Bautista, in particular, had been outspoken in his support of Gunn.

Marvel Studios put Guardians 3 on hold, though Marvel head Kevin Feige and others involved have maintained they intended to make the film happen. Guardians 3 never had a release date, but Gunn previously said it would open in 2020.

In the weeks after firing Gunn, there was speculation around town about who could replace the filmmaker, with agents lining up clients but by mid-fall, any perceived search seemed to have petered out, with many thinking that the project was on the back burner. What almost no one knew was that Marvel and Disney had never undertaken a search and had gone back to Gunn and made a deal ... in secret, according to insiders.

After the firing, Gunn moved on to Warner Bros. and DC to write and direct The Suicide Squad, which has Idris Elba set to star and an Aug. 6, 2021 release date. Gunn plans on doing both films, with The Suicide Squadcoming first, according to sources.

After the news broke, Gunn — who has been silent on Twitter since his firing — tweeted a statement.

"I am tremendously grateful to every person out there who has supported me over the past few months," Gunn wrote on Twitter Friday. "I am always learning and will continue to work at being the best human being I can be. I deeply appreciate Disney's decision and I am excited to continue making films that investigate the ties of love that bind us all. I have been, and continue to be incredibly humbled by your love and support. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Love to you all."

When Gunn was fired in July, he issued a statement apologizing for his previous tweets.

"My words of nearly a decade ago were, at the time, totally failed and unfortunate efforts to be provocative," his July 2018 statement read. "I have regretted them for many years since — not just because they were stupid, not at all funny, wildly insensitive, and certainly not provocative like I had hoped, but also because they don't reflect the person I am today or have been for some time."

The Guardians movies have been very successful for Marvel, pushing its cinematic universe into the cosmic sphere. The first 2014 Guardians movie earned more than $773 million worldwide while 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 earned $863 million. The Guardians were also a big part of last year's Avengers: Infinity War, on which Gunn served as an executive producer, while Karen Gillan's Nebula is a key part of Avengers: Endgame, which Gunn also is exec producing.
