More skilled fighter - GSP or Jones?

Striking - Jones
Wrestling - Jones
Ground game - GSP (close though)

GSP's nowhere near as dynamic as Jones.
Disagree that GSP has a better ground game, Jon Jones has the highest number of submissions at LHW and plenty of brutal ground and pound finishes, he's way more effective

True but GSP was the ultimate master of laying on guys for 5 rounds to get all his decision wins.

Can see argument for Jones tho

Jones is the freak of the two, not to say GSP isnt physically gifted as a specimen.

The stories of Jones coming to Jackson’s for the first time in the very begining of his career, and just tooling all the veterans that trained there (at that time all the best dudes trained there). Brian Stann would talk about Jones learning a submission move for the first time, then proceeding to sub the whole room with his new move.

We’ve seen GSP make costly mistakes, the one that stands out the most is when he tried to lock a kimura on Hughes while Hughes had side-control.........made Matt look like Campeon de Mundial in BJJ the way he hit that far-side armbar LoL
Jones is clearly the more skilled fighter but you are nitpicking an incredibly green GSP at that time...

Hey, just saying, “green” JJ wasnt making epic fails like that.....

And to even try to lock a two-on-one as GSP did at that time, was an elementary level mistake. To already be a top level guy and even fish for that move was no excuse....

GSP only used a very narrowed skill set, ESPECIALLY the second half.

It's not even close. Jones his displayed better and more efficient techniques combined with killer instinct.
His creativity and body control are unlimited compared to GSP. GSP was living that safety first life so it pretty much ends the discussion. His best win in the later years was against Bisping.(Very Sad)

GSP may be a better Athlete over all but Jones is the better more talented MMA fighter.
Jones continues to evolve separating the gap, lets be real.

Here's another epic fail that I've never seen done by anyone else before.

Stop making Jones threads you loser

Technical skills as-in technique? I think GSP easily.

"Better" or more effective overall fighter? It has to be Jones. His fight IQ, creativity, and mean streak are all better than Georges.

The caveat to this opinion is that while I like both guys as fighters (a lot), GSP is probably my favorite MMA fighter....so take that however you want.

IMO Jones is a lot like Conor and struggles with fighters who have reach advantages. Thing is, I don't think there's a fighter alive who is in Jon's weight class who has a bigger reach than he does.

Even if they did, they would need to be as good with oblique kicks as he is because he will absolutely destroy your knees and you don't need to really commit anything to throw them out. I think Jones' mastery of that kick makes him beyond frustrating to fight.

GSP is a better athlete.

He doesn't need to kick your knees in, or poke your eyes out.

GSP. Jonny relys more on his raw size

Basically. If Jones had a 79" reach, he'd probably have gone 3-3 and been cut in 2014. His primary skill is being lanky, which isn't actually a skill, but an attribute.

And suddenly, we have this bum @beachburn2 riding Jony's dick so hard around here... Only to find out that GSP is the right answer for obvious reasons.

This ^^

<{boisedyme}>Karolina would knock them both out

Fair enough, but....

GSP never once fought anyone who had an equal or longer reach to him. He had a significant reach advantage over Bisping as well

What is Diaz's reach? What is Bisping's reach? What is Condit's reach?

All three have nearly identical reach to GSP.

edit - And even so, while GSP did have a reach advantage over several opponents, his game didn't revolve around sticking his fingers out and or running from opponents. Saying he's comparable to Jones due to reach is dishonest and laughable. Jon's reach is basically an anomaly at 205, and the basis for his entire career... this is not close to the same reason GSP had such success.

If you're asking who has the better techniques, strategies, and overall martial knowledge, it's got to be GSP. Jones entire style is predicated on his absurdly long reach and leverage. While Georges was not a small WW for his time, Jones generally dwarfs his opposition and has the longest reach in the UFC, including the hws. But if you're asking who's the better natural fighter with the better instincts, it's Jones by a landslide.

GSP so skilled he dint know how to put an arm bar or kimura on Dan Hardy, then had his coaches go over them after the fight

Jones slapped a kimura on TRTVitor like nothing

I’ll take the guy who didn’t get lit up by bisping.
