Opinion Military service should be mandatory

lol i noticed you are still posting at like 4 am

im always thinking like "does this guy have a job" lol

Sometimes I just don't sleep. Or I sleep a few hours at a random time and go another 20 hours. Might start taking its toll at some point.

I recall a long time ago some guy that wasn't a big fan of me on another forum (because I criticized Wladimir Klitschko once), thought I was a New Yorker. He was 100% confident about that and kept saying that I'm pretending to be Finnish. Kept bringing up the fact that I'm posting at 4-5 am which supposedly shouldn't be possible for a Finnish guy.

The Russians that I used to play video games with, put me to shame though. They'd go 12-16 hours straight, then at 7am they'd leave for work, come back and they'd be at it again. I never figured out if they slept at all. Or maybe their "work" wasn't exactly a 9 to 5 job.

Yeah, things have gone to shit here in the U.S. and women in combat arms. As far as the U.S. Army, we now have females in the Infantry and a recent female graduate of the 'Q' course - Special Forces. So, we now officially have a female wearing a green beret. SEALs have a female going through the BUD/S pipeline and will most likely have a graduate in the recent future. I think they are all equally worthless. Let's see how they do in combat. I think it will be a shock to the 'PC Brigade' who put these women in this situation.

in my opinion you guys are fine

the only real problem i noticed was the ability to navigate with map and compass without gps but otherwise thing worked great (a bit reliant on air support but as long as it works why not)

Did they pass the same standard as men or they gave them a lower standard? If they went through the same training standard and made the cut, I'd have no issue whatsoever.

Bit of a crazy guy that one. He was convinced that I'm Jewish.

Sleeping is more detrimental at this point, with the weather and constant sunlight. It's not going to be good quality sleep anyway.

I'm thinking that military service should be mandatory and the duties of the military should be expanded.

I've got family in the military and a lot of what, they claim, to do is infrastructure building abroad.

I don't see why that couldn't be expanded to the home front as well. There are tons of infrastructure projects at home that need to be tended to and I don't see why using the military couldn't be used to address that.

It would increase the ability to mobilize large forces to bring about change and provide the GI bill covering education costs to everyone once their duty ends. Provide everyone with good loan opportunities for home ownership and starting a business. It would also put everyone in a position to have skin in the game to prevent the military being used for frivolous wars. Because the general public would be averse to bullshit wars it would allow everyone to unify under a patriotic banner and give people a sense of purpose towards serving their country.

EDIT: ok maybe not the military but a national service. So, national service, military or jail.

Knock yourself out, but I actively discouraged all of my kids from enlisting (1 joined anyway) just as my father discourage my brother and me from joining.

People always suggest mandatory military service without thinking about the size of our population.

There are something like 20 million people in the 18-23 bracket.

That is too many. Now stop suggesting this please.

I think a year (or two) of public service post-high school is a fine idea, but I wouldn't restrict it to the military, and I would tie it to a reward, such as 50% off of tuition to a state school.

Imagine raising children in a society whose dominant message is: give to the community and you will be rewarded... talk about a concept that is totally foreign to our current culture.
Not sure if involuntary nationalism is a sound idea.

no thanks. talk about governments getting way too involved in our lives....

my whole life has been dedicated to service. i dont need the state or a bunch of busy bodies imposing their idea of that onto my life.

ffs the whole idea is annoying as hell. mind your own bussiness.

Think of the possibilities of a 20 million person mobilized work force. That's enough man power to take on pyramid building type projects.

#Defund the military

Brought to you by China

But you understand we have companies that build roads and buildings and etc who do it for a living...not for 2 fucking years.

How about this, get every last loafer on welfare and put them in this magical program of yours. They just need direction!

I don't care and I'm not thinking 2 years I'm thinking something like 3-5 years of service. You leave with an AA and tuition paid for through a masters degree.
