Microsoft is Buying Activision Blizzard $68.7B ***Update: Acquisition Finalized***

Can someone explain to me how this method is profitable?

These guys just keep spending and yet fewer people are buying games and just subbing instead. How do they make profit on these AAA games?

Attach rates aren't what you think. A lot of people that buy up most consoles get their one or two games a year, sometimes that's all they ever get for the machine. I knew people that had PS2s just for GTA, 360s just for Fight Night or FIFA.

People are viewing this through the wrong lens.

It's not a console war... It's a content war.

Microsoft is just ahead of the curve.
It's just that simple.

I only own a PS5. Right now, Sony's exclusive content looks LAUGHABLY bad in comparison to what Microsoft had even before this deal. What does Playstation have to offer aside from these hyper-cinematic 3rd person action games that want to be everything but games? Microsoft has a pretty nice spread of content right now and the Activision purchase is going to really make it stand out to the general public.

I'm seriously considering selling my PS5 and jumping ship. I like stuff like Final Fantasy but not enough to miss out on something like Game Pass while also getting the stuff Microsoft creates like Forza and Halo, Sea of Thieves etc etc.

Most of their games are coming to PC anyway. God of War, Ghost of Whatever (Tshushima or something) Playstation exclusives are all ending up on windows.

Yeah but most people don't want to wait an extra year for a game.

I'd rather wait 3 years to play it on PC or not play it at all.

I really dislike playing on a console controllers aren't my thing. Only games I use a controller for are sports games but that's out of pure necessity.

I hope this leads to Sony reviving the Legacy of kain franchise.

This is bad.

This is very very bad.

I get why some people are celebrating. More games for GamePass and the CEO is gone, but beyond that this is a HUGE step toward Microsoft having a monopoly over the entire western gaming market.

It may be some good aspects in the short-term, but think of the the long-term. Once Microsoft dominates this console generation and possibly put Sony into irrelevancy, they'll be increasing prices on GamePass and the quality of their exclusives across ALL of their dozens of studios will be of the quality of the XBoxOne generation.

With a few exceptions, Microsoft doesn't know how to guide studios into making great games. They were great before being bought out by Microsoft, and mostly became shit afterward. Microsoft buys out their competition to neuter their products, so they don't have to compete with them in the open market.

Everyone... of your Top 10 Favorite Games of the last 20 years, which ones were made directly under Microsoft's leadership? The first 3 Halo games maybe, but look at how well 343 have done since that.

Mark my words. Years from now we will curse this day in the same way we curse the day Disney bought out Star Wars.
Halo always sucked.

Lol. MS exclusives are laughably average.

That may be different in the future due to MS throwing money around, but Sony has range from JRPGs to action shooters. They may be third person but Id rather have amazing games than mediocre trite that MS has been pushing out.

Even the new Halo is mediocre, even though I enjoy it. Is it as good as something like GOW?

Hell no.

Another troll, he laid it on a bit too thick.

“Here’s who remains” how fucking sad this is the state of the industry.

Didn't you literally call halo multiplayer the best you've played in years.. lmao.

I assume Modern Warfare will be made exclusive but the rest will be cross-platform to maximize profits.

I also wonder how many IP's will die weather by straight up dumping them or running them into the ground ala EA. Arkane Studios is great but hasn't pretty much every game failed to meet expectations or bombed? Microsoft obviously aren't low on money but spending nearly 80billion on gaming companies is going to have shareholders wanting to see returns on investments. i know they have enough to cover with COD,WoW Candy Crush, TES, Starfield, Fallout etc but i'm not expecting much for the AA games and studio's.

I only play Overwatch and Steam games. Never expect so many people supporting this greedy game pass bullshit like PSN.

COD I could see staying multiplatform yeah.. that's it.

WOW as a IP has no legacy on playstation at all.. it's going to be only Xbox/PC.

Did anything else come out of those rumors of a Xbox port of WOW from last year? Saw a couple of things then it all went dead.

It's kind of Ironic to see the Sony fanboys cry over this when that's all they've done is gloat about Sony's exclusives for the last several years.

Sony created their own exclusives and new IP’s though. Doesn’t feel the same when Microsoft just buys a shit ton of existing IP’s lol.
