Microsoft is Buying Activision Blizzard $68.7B ***Update: Acquisition Finalized***

“Here’s who remains” how fucking sad this is the state of the industry.

Yikes. Another 70b buys the rest..

And Microsoft already has EA play, Ubisoft plus, & some deal with Sega.. As a part of Gamepass.

Sony created their own exclusives and new IP’s though. Doesn’t feel the same when Microsoft just buys a shit ton of existing IP’s lol.

Yes and no. Naughty Dog was bought by Sony back in 2001 and the God of War games have been tied to multiple studios and developers over the years. Plus keeping the only AAA baseball game on Playstation for an entire generation was a dick move too. They also don't let Spiderman appear on any other platforms.

There are other Developers for Sony exclusives that have been tied to other platforms too. Sony just publishes them.

I don't care either way. I have a PS4, and XSX, a Switch, and an Oculus Rift 2 so I'm not really going to miss out on anything at the moment, but this is just the way the industry is, and it's hypocritical to call out Microsoft, but defend Playstation when it comes to hoarding intellectual property. At least Microsoft has the Xbox and the PC.

Christ, why do I have a feeling I'm going to be waking up to new headlines within the next year or two. Microsoft has tons of money left to spend and they could easily buy them all. At least Japan seems to have some national pride so they might not sell out as easy but I do think there is a price for everything.

.

Thats more on Marvel Games than Sony, they offered Sony a chance at any Marvel IP and Marvel Games approved them and Insomniac to do Spider-man when they asked.

But he can still appear in other games like Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 on Switch which was released after the PS4 SM game

I think we should all just be happy it wasn’t google, Amazon, or Apple who bought Activision. Phil did say he considers them his real competition these days.

All of the above I have little to no interest in playing.

And all the DOZENS of studios Microsoft owns, those are their best games in an weak year for gaming like 2021?

Oh sure, a Microsoft-monopoly sounds awesome.
I have never owned a Microsoft console because they don't offer me anything in terms of games or service that appeals to me. Even with Game Pass becoming increasingly more compelling I'm still not sold on it.

Excuse you.

Halo:CE is a top 3 most influential FPS game.
Influential sure. But it sucked. Halo 2 finish the fight sucked. Halo 3 with it's terrible sbmm and blah campaign also sucked.

One of the most overrated franchises of all time.

I mean if Phil Spencer can purge all rogue elements within Activision, especially kotick.. this is a great thing.
That would be day one job as soon as the deal is approved but the new Fed Chair will likely become a road block. He would likely get an unbelievable parachute like what the founder of Mincraft got in the billions but will be told to get out after 3-6 months during the transfer of control. Oh and this likely has a lot to do with Facebook/Meta verse because digital currency could be huge in the virtual world.

A few fun facts.
1:Bigger then Nintendo's value
2:Largest Tech deal in history
3:It will generate more MA deals for sure between publishers to make themselves less of a takeover target.

Did anything else come out of those rumors of a Xbox port of WOW from last year? Saw a couple of things then it all went dead.

WoW has had console and mobile support for years without officially being released for such devices. Recall the lead developer for WoW plays the game on his iPad.

Phil Spenser is heading towards the senior team with people from the cloud, office, mobile apps, operating systems this is a big deal and lets remember Candy Crush I forgot about that one. The reality is VR/AR headsets are finally heading towards actual consumer space seeing that Oculus had more Google searches then ether Xbox and Playstation post Christmas.

Microsoft PC Master Racer checking in.

Phil Spencer bless. The One.

Something to add to this, Activision Blizzard also the Sierra library too (after the Vivendi Merger), imagine that being on PC/ Ultimate Gamepass also

They are talking a lot of GamePass think "Netflix's for gaming".

It's kind of Ironic to see the Sony fanboys cry over this when that's all they've done is gloat about Sony's exclusives for the last several years.

Did you really just bust out the argument that Sony has exclusive games so buying two of the largest third party publishers in the world and making them exclusive is the same? Jesus lol

I'm just pointing out how the PS fan boys would always brag being able to play games that people with an Xbox couldn't. And if you think Sony wouldn't be doing the same that Microsoft is doing right now if they could afford it, then you have a lot of growing up to do.
