Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

People forget that Microsoft tried to acquire Valve. Earlier today when i read the news this still did shock me. Means Microsoft took the Tencent/Sony partnership seriously.

At worst, it will end being released on the Playstation a year from the PC and Xbox release
 
Seen a lot of comments online about the implications of Bethesda, Obsidian and InXile all being under one roof and people exclaiming that it’s like “getting the band back together” for the original fallout developers from the 90s. But that’s a bit presumptuous. I mean if those guys actually wanted to work together they could have at any point, nothing was stopping guys from Obsidian or InXile from going to work at Bethesda or vice versa. Like maybe these guys had a falling out along the way that’s not that publicized.

This is like saying if after the Zenimax purchase of Id software back in the day they had also bought Ion Storm and then people were excited to see the possibility of John Carmack and John Romero working together again without considering the fact that they hate each other.

Otherwise, along with all of the other buyouts of developers by Microsoft, they will have an advantage over Sony this console generation.

It's pretty interesting to assume that Microsoft can do whatever the fuck they want in terms of exclusivity.. as they now own the IP's.

Are you thinking of another game by any chance? MLB/ MLB The Show has been a PS exclusive (until next years version) since the first version in '98 and its always been made by a Sony Developer, firstly Sony Interactive Studios America then Sony San Diego when that studio was created.

Microsoft should've just not announced the acquisition, and had Todd Howard show up to an xbox conference to break the news and announce Starfield as an exclusive. That would've been the biggest mic drop in gaming history.
 
Yanno with all the tiny bullshit Sony pulled last gen, I hope Xbox dicks them down.

Not when Bethesda has maintained publishing rights for their franchises. They’re coming to PS5.

How would that have been a huge mic drop? A lot of people, myself included, have never even heard of Starfield. Is that the game that’s suspected of being a scam that’s raised like $300 million from Kickstarter or whatever and has been in development for like 10 years?

To be decided on a "Case by case basis".. at the end of the day, Microsoft have the final say to what platform these IP's release on.
