Microsoft acquires Zenimax Entertainment for $7.5 billion

If you’ve just acquired a company and don’t have any intention on spreading these titles around. You’d think you’d say that.

“You want Elder Scrolls 6 on PS5? Fuck you, buy an Xbox.”

Yet the wording has remained extremely vague for a reason. This isn’t what people are assuming.

Imagine if MS acquired Fromsoft, @Dizzy wouldn't be here with us anymore.

Iirc, you just like Doom in this list of games.
Lol, I’d just buy an Xbox if that’s the case.

But yeah, for me it’s mostly Doom which after thinking about it, does have a chance to go exclusive. That’s years away though so I’ll cross that bridge.

Because there’s a lot more to this deal than just the games that Bethesda has developed.

There’s id, there’s Obsidian, there’s whatever other developers they have. But when it comes to their own produced games, they’ve retained the rights to publish them. This isn’t some hostile fucking takeover. It’s incredibly commonplace to give allowances to a company you just acquired.

Look, you have no logical argument. Get your pre-order (there should be stock left) and maybe enjoy some exclusives from Bethesda at a point later to be determined by Microsoft. Maybe. On a case by case basis.

The team we didn't know we wanted:

If franchises like Elder Scrolls and Doom are truly made to be exclusives then that’s one of the biggest scumbag moves I’ve seen in gaming and don’t want to hear a single thing about Microsoft being pro-consumer again.

Developing your own first party exclusives is one thing. Throwing your wallet at an enormous, established publisher is another.

Salty as fuck lol

Supposedly they removed the PS5 logo from the Starfield page.
<WellThere>

Indeed, Bethesda retaining the right to publish their own IPs does not entail the right to publish them to the PS5. That would depend on the terms of the agreement, and like Polygon's writers, I strongly doubt Microsoft paid $7.5bn without exerting control over who makes that call.

Everyone expects all their top franchises to be timed exclusives, at a minimum, but I think Microsoft is finally making aggressive moves against Sony and Nintendo at this most critical juncture-- the launch window-- in the console wars.

LOL @ thinking Microsoft bought Bethesda, but won't be calling the shots. Just threw a few billion dollars around for kicks, I guess...

The cope is strong with this one.

It’s about building GamePass. That’s it. Having an enormous library available to any subscriber is the only way it’s going to become ultra successful.

They have the capital to do this. Pay $70 for a new Bethesda game or pay $10/month for all their games.

PC is just the smarter choice at this point. You get the MS library plus stuff they don’t get. You might also have a chance of getting the PS 5 library or at least some of it.

Not to mention you get the PC library which is quite large and has entire genres like strategy that just arent accessible on consoles

You're the last person here who should be bringing up logic.. You're too obsessed with hating on a brand and you get called out on it each day for a reason.

One of my first posts in this thread was to remind people that Minecraft never went exclusive, meanwhile you're completely sure of yourself already.. So don't even try and bring up logic, you're gone too far into fan boy territory and don't make any sense.

yep and turning your pc into a semi console is so much easier these days. I had mine waking up with my controller and everything connected straight to my tv. Have my pc desk right next to my tv In case I need to
Hop on keyboard/mouse/ 144hz monitor. Got my PlayStation ready for those sweet exclusives. Basically I’m living the dream.

I promise not to drag out the victory lap too long.

They're also not going to be like "Bethesda has joined our team and every game will go exclusive!" That's not their style and that's just going to bring a whole bunch of negative attention from the start.

The "case by case basis" statement says it all. If PS5 were on pace to sell more than double the amount of consoles and is getting all the attention again, well.. I wouldn't be so sure that Microsoft is going to continue playing nice. I also posted an interview with Spencer from earlier this year where he made it a point for people to stop with this idea that they don't believe in exclusives anymore.
