Melvin Guillard Potentially Getting Cut?

Why keep melvin if he can't beat top contenders,Pointless having fighters in the ufc that can only beat lower end talent

Jake Shields is 2-2-1NC in the UFC

With both wins being argued as wins for the opposing fighters and every fight has been an absolute snoozer.

And he tested positive for a banned substance after one of his fights yet he's still on the UFC roster.

I feel like Melvin getting cut before him will be criminal

And I believe Melvin has been busted for cocaine. Also has a probation violation. He's missed weight before and is 1-4 in his last 5.

Yeah. Shields and Guillard are comparable. Shields beat Dan Henderson for christ's sake.

I like Melvin, and, well I don't think he's as "extremely talented" as he thinks he is.

Certainly not as much as everyone else thinks he is either.

I agree. He's talented in the striking department, but that's as far as it goes. I think he's going to get another fight but if he loses I wouldn't be surprised if he got the ax

Should not be cut. Give him drop down in competition, if he loses then cut him. Lauzon, Miller, Cerrone and Varner are all top 10 or top 15 fighters.

They just need to put him in there with some lesser competition so he can rack up a few more KO's and get back on track.

You do understand that there can be only 1 champ and very few contenders? There can't just be top fighters, there will always be lower end talent because there are always fighters who are better. You like a child wondering why we don't just make a limitless amount of money and give it to everyone so everyone can be rich it's the same logic

I'm not a fan of Guillard, but I hope he doesn't get cut. He's exciting when he wins, and I often enjoy watching him lose, too.

i dont think so. maybe if he loses his next fight then

If he loses his next fight, I would assume he'd be cut.

WSOF would be good for him. Bellator would be awful. I could see him losing in the first round of the tournament.

That would be seriously bad. Guillard is awesome.

He's not really genetically built to be a top tier fighter. He's way too 'orthodox' in both body-type and technique. He should've concentrated his efforts on playing a 'sport' like American Football instead.

The reason Melvin continues to remain in the UFC is the simple fact that his physical condition is so very top notch. Potential. If you have watched him from the beginning the simple fact of the matter is that he is not evolving AT ALL as a fighter. I can only imagine Dana saying wtf is this guys problem and why isn't he improving.

You know what I am going to allocate most of the blame here to his training camp, mentors and people around him who are not doing their job. Melvin needs to shake up his world, get new trainers find a new camp and someone who will actually give this kid training that will open up stand up combos and try to instill some killer instinct into this kid.

He has heart but just doesn't know what to do with it and becomes discouraged and seems to mentally break down when anyone stands toe to toe with him. You don't see many fighters like him to be honest because he seems to have a great physical work ethic but no one there to really show him how to become better on how to cut off the cage and pin a fighter then opening up with effect stand up salvos for a finish.

It's sad really but him being around after so many losses is only testament to the potential that those around him acknowledge. Images of Palhares come to me when I think of Melvin.

cant say anything about his personality, but he's fun to watch. You never know when he might land a punch that ends it.

I hope Dana gives him one more must win.

Melvin needs some time off to see a sports psychologist or something. The kid gets way too emotional when he fights at times. I just don't see him getting his fight IQ to match his physical gifts anytime soon...

His fights are exciting, this is the type of fighter that should be in the UFC.
I don't get why he has to be cut, his losses come against top fighters.

He's athletic, but I don't know about talented. His ground game surely doesn't display any talent. He is explosive, with good power, and could probably finish anyone standing, though. Cut? I say give him one more fight against a mid tier guy and see how he does.

I remember when he use to do the belt around his waist sign. Youre never getting a belt in the UFC melvin youre not good enough. Theyve cut better fighters for less kick him to the curb.

I dont get this.

Guillard in danger, while Leonard Garcia (essentially, a worse version of Melvin - ie - a 'knockout artist' who never knocks anyone out, or even gets close to a finish) is safe when he could arguably be on a TEN fight losing streak?

Guillard actually has good attributes.
