Really shouldn't have retired at 31. The drugs did more damage than MMA and only cost him, didn't bring any money.

He’s clearly not a dumb guy, but a troubled person. Wish all the luck on his path to getting his ducks in a row. I always liked his wacky persona and liked to watch him fight. Sucks to see someone self destructing that way, but hey.. It is what it is.

Atleast this is the most sincere apology I've seen by Mayhem in all of his arrests. Given his track record, it might not mean much. But I think it's possible for everyone to change and hope he does. He clearly has mental issues, drug issues, or both. I'm hoping it's only drugs he needs to kick rather than CTE or mental issues that never go away. He was sort of vague on the reasons. Crazy how he was sort of at the height of the sport at one point and could've been a top MMA personality if he kept it on the straight and narrow.

Yeah I can't believe he wrote it either. But I HOPE it expresses what he actually intends to be doing.

And yeah, he has been looking rougher and rougher (and more insane) over the years. Best wishes to him.

My dad struggled with addiction, of just about all the substances you can think of.

I've seen first hand what it does to the user, families, and friends.

I wish for him to get the help he so clearly needs, and to reign victorious over his demons.

Best of luck to Mayhem on his journey to recovery. He’s right. It takes courage to ask for help and make yourself vulnerable, and venture out into uncertainty. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a support system around them to guide them through times like this, but there’s always people who want to listen. You don’t need to be family to have people care about you as a human being.
