Matt Hughes Train Lawsuit

He tried to kill himself
Not neccesary. He would be distracted by something, also would have thinking about some shit (mainly if he was in predivorce and sued by his brother) and didnt pay attention to surroundings + loud music.

For example..

This lady definitely didnt want to kill herself or ruin her car, anyways drove into train...most likely because of phone.

Matt's a good guy and hope he gets a hulk Hogan type settlement from the train company.

Anyone know why he wanted to end it?

Usually it’s some divorce, child custody battle, loss of job, etc...

I was wondering what it might of been specifically.
At the time some people were speculating that it was a suicide attempt because a few months earlier the UFC fired him (and chuck Liddell) from his no-show job. Basically the UFC had been paying him $300k a year to do nothing. When they took it away he probably got depressed. After all, based on his statement when the firing happened it sounded like he thought the money would be there forever

You’re all missing one of the main reasons he tried committing suicide that night. Matt lost his executive position with the UFC along with Chuck Liddell. Pay was modest and they didn’t have to do shit. The job was a reward for being loyal to the UFC throughout the years. Dana hired them on in ghost positions for the company and would do so “as long as him and the Fertitta’s owned the company”. When WME took over, they eliminated their positions and compensation. That was the end of that run. Chuck was bitter about it and we know what Matt did.... Shortly after the announcement, Matt parked his fucking truck on railroad tracks by his home that he’s more than familiar with. Seems like he didn’t want to go back to farming, eh?

It’s no secret his wife caught him cheating numerous times before this (heck, she even caught him talking to another girl during his rehab after). I think a culmination of events led him to do what he did. It’s hard to feel sorry for him as he’s been known to be a cocky dick. Look at all the legal trouble he got himself into since.

By the way...your truck doesn’t stop on railroad tracks in the middle of nowhere unless you want it to.
You are correct sir. I came here to post this. He got laid off in December then the accident happened in June. He was making 300k a year for doing nothing. He probably counted on that money being there forever. When he got word he was being fired it probably shocked the hell out of him then depression set in.

I thought it was a suicide attempt. No?

The brain injury he suffered in the crash wiped that memory clean I guess.

When a guy parks his truck on railroad tracks with an oncoming train in view and then places a phone call I think the evidence for attempted suicide is pretty clear. But Matt survived so his family wants to make a cash grab. It's low and shameful.

you're calling this guy retarded when the quote says TBI right there.
TBI, by itself, is a vague meaningless term that does not properly capture the degree of the injuries sustained by Matt Hughes.

how is it not hughes' fault? i'm surprised he's trying to sue. he should be grateful he's still alive.

im pretty sure there have been lawsuits won over this type of thing. if there is something in that crossing that is not up to every rule and law, he could win. sometimes there is overgrown vegetation obscuring the tracks, or the signs are not working, not proper, etc. if they find anything like that, they gonna get some money

Don’t know the man but this sucks to hear anyone go through this I hope UFC is taking care of him

Jesus that was so sad him talking about wanting to commit suicide now at end I know a lot of people shit on him but that brought tears to my eyes I really hope he gets the help I wonder if stem cells could help fuckin sucks

Did you read his book?
Or Sean McCorkle’s summary of it?

Matt was a horrible person.

If he got himself on a better path, then good for him. But if people choose to not feel positive about him, there is ample justification to feel that way.

The guy brags and laughs about animal abuse, statutory rape, regular good old fashion rape (of his own wife under anesthesia), his abusive relationship with his wife, beating his father, all while looking down on others, being a mean spirited bully and all around douchebag.

It is one thing to make mistakes, and entirely another level of human shitbag to proudly publish a book about them knowing full well that his wife and children will have to deal with the material in that book.

There was a time I was a fan of Matt until I learned what kind of person he really was. I hope he loses this cash grab. He's obviously out of money and has no options.

I find it hard to not know a train track (that is close to your residence) is unknown to you so much so that you can claim you were hit because of lack of warning...

However, if there are not signs or lights at the crossing, he is correct... even though you should be able to see/hear a train coming your way...

I don’t know if anyone’s replied to your post, but it’s much harder than you think depending on circumstances.

I used to live right near a track I had to cross every day. There were a few times I had to cross when the lights were stuck. It’s nerve racking unless you can see completely into the horizon and terrifying at night. Train noise and visual cues are irrelevant if it’s moving fast. By the time you discern it’s direction and sound, it’s right on you. It looks so small only for a brief moment. We had people that died trying to cross when the lights were stuck. Crossing at night was one of the stupidest things I’ve done. Even though there was no train there, I could literally see nothing until the last second.

Thank you for the reply.
I was ignorant and oblivious to the danger.
Truly appreciate learning about it. Something I never really thought about.

Crazy. It is just odd in Matt case that he was parked on the track talking on the phone with a train honking down on him. Seems like he had something else on his mind...

ya but the authorities if they really wanted could just get a copy of matts phone records and match up when or if a call was made with the time of the crash....it would be pretty easy to put 2 and 2 together.

also what dumb ass stops in the middle of a railway and makes a phone call, I guess distracted driving is as bad as they say it is.

not sure how you can't hear the loud horn these trains make or even in the back of your mind knowing your on a railway like a sitting goose you'd think common sense kicks in and you move your vehicle to a safer distance, not park and decide to make a phone call.

very well could've been a suicide attempt gone wrong or simply neglegence on hughes part OR the NS company is telling the truth and hughes is full of shit.

His son confirmed he was on the phone. This was very likely a botched suicide.
