Masvidal vs. Askren set for UFC 239

The card is getting better and better. Also the shit talk will be just cringey enough to be funny.
 
Sherdog back to underestimating Masvidal, and this against a guy who is 0-0-1 in the UFC.

All of you just sit back and see how bad Askren is going to look against a guy who can grapple and strike. Askren is going to get brutalized.

As good of a grappler as Damien Maia is, his wrestling is pretty crummy. And he wrestle-fucked Masvidal (albeit narrowly). This fight is Askren's to lose.

Maia's wrestling is actually really good. He's not Khabib, Askren or GSP. But he's better at grappling than them, so he makes up for it.

Cerrone then? All I'm saying is, there are people in this division way worse, and way more elite than Robbie Lawler and Luis Santos. Askren hasn't faced a worthy opponent in a long time. The only ones who have come close in recent times have put him in bad spots, and made him look less dangerous.

Maia is a grappling phenom, and he gave big props to Masvidal, calling him one of the most skilled BJJ guys he’s fought.

As I keep saying to the Askren fans: this is not going to be a wrestling match. Askren’s atrocious striking defense - it was literally 10% vs Robbie - is going to be a factor. So is Masvidal’s ability to counter wrestlers with submissions. Watch how Bendo struggled to take Mas down (3/12) and how he could do nothing to keep him down.

People are overrating Askren right now simply because he’s undefeated and just eeked by Robbie via botched call by Herb the hack. Mas is a terrible matchup for him: an excellent grappler who can end the fight at every range.

Lawler looked pretty dangerous early, hes a hard guy to fight Askren showed a lot in the short time he had. Toughed it out didn't give up in a bad spot turned the tides. Mind you the ref completely fucked that fight up and robbed everyone of an actual finish so we have no idea how it would have ended, but it still showed Askren belongs at least.
But yea hes no goat lol. GSP in his prime would have walked thru him imo, when everyone was talking about that fight.
even Mas is an easy match up for him. His trouble will be Woodley, Colby, usman. Guys who can wrestle and strike better than he can

Bendo and Maia might have struggled, but they still won. And so will Askren. Mas finds ways to lose competitive fights. Everyone is really high on him because of recency bias and the sensational win he just had.
 
Wrestlers always win against Strikers.. Just look at the goats.. DC, Khabib.. and even Jones when he feels like it.

oh god , this guy who’s doesn’t know shit about wrestling is talking again . Masvidal tripods , Ben specializes in neutralizing it , the fact you haven’t countered that argument yet shows you just talk out your ass . Wrestlers love askren but guess what wrestlers know way more about fighting than you do . Askren -225 suck it .
 
They really don't give Edwards much respect. Leon deserved that fight with Masvidal and it was already built up with the post-fight incident.

eh, leon can fight someone lower on the ladder. ponzinibbio makes sense because both are on streaks but havent beat a real top guy yet. ponzi beat magny and leon has beat cowboy and now gunner. makes sense, but ponzi i think is gunning for a higher ranked guy. their isnt much available though with woodley vs lawler and askren vs masvidal booked. WB just got KO'd, but i suppose hes still an option for either guy. Till is probably going to be gone for a while. RDA is fighting Kevin Lee

looks like pettis is gonna end up fighting one of them, unless they fight eachother
