Man explains how quantum computers work / how they exploit parallel universes / will lead to AI

Lol you took that bait quick.

Using an analogy because the person refuses to understand what is being explained to them is not declaring victory it's trying to help them understand the concept more simply.

Defending myself from people picking fights is different than outright judgment.

That's what happened here and it doesn't lead to my victory, it leads to me making a truthful point you refuse to accept.

Not my victory, but me explaining how thick you are.

But I'm not surprised it went over your head lol.

Bait? So you are a troll? Oh ok....

I apologize though, it's clear you actually do have some kind of reading disability so I apologize for mocking you. Would you like me to define some words for you so you can actually understand what I meant for once?

Quantum physics needs an explanation for the layman fast though I think quantum physicists dont even know what the fuck theyre on about. Reading some of the theory makes my skull hurt.

Quantum mechanics can't really be explained to lay people. Even physicist argue different interpretations about what's really going on. I've read up on it a lot, and given the choice between Copenhagen, many worlds or pilot wave theory, I'd prefer that pilot wave theory was the correct model because it's easiest to reconcile with my preconceptions of reality. Unfortunately the majority of the experts who actually understand this stuff accept pilot wave the least. Which is too bad, because the others don't make sense to me.

But seriously, QM is barely comprehensible to lay people. I can barely grasp the double slit experiment, and quantum entanglement causes my head to explode.

@Rebound59

Stopped reading here because you lost all credibility.

1. I publish all my work for free. There is no "selling" I force people into.

2. I remain anonymous on here. Nothing leads back to me or my work.

Think before you speak next time :)
There are different sorts of personal gain. You're not convincing anyone.
Listen. If people would have asked me questions on here rather than troll me you would have already received plenty of answers. It's not my fault people don't come humbly. Jesus could not heal people who didn't believe. Understand?

I can't just pour answers into vessels that are completely closed off. The first person that comes humbly, hungry for truth and respectful will get more than they bargained for.

God calls Christians to seek out His voice. His voice is found in true ministers. Of the few who have obeyed God and found my books online, some of them have become greatly enlightened. It was their hungry search that led them to my writings. Get it?

I can't just hand everyone answers on here. If I do Satan's accusations will have power against me and I will reap the consequences. No thank you.

If someone comes humbly they'll get answers. It's not my fault none of you come humbly.
You're the one who "don't come humbly" arriving in this thread with a screed going LOOK AT ME, I'm a prophet who can see the future and you're all gonna get fucked by that devil AI. Sounds the same as the people who were against rock music in the 50's. Blech.
Google is looking to sell Boston Dynamics and D-wave is not part of their alphabet umbrella.
Fair enough. I have been known to err from time to time. The point stands; those robots are a fuck of a lot scarier than some computer that doesn't even do anything productive yet.

Snake oil salesmen have been trying to convince people to be afraid of real science so they can peddle their shit since before Jesus was born. It's just in a different package now. Ooooooo look the Terminator could become a real thing.....oooooooo be afraid, only getting my book will help you prepare for the impending doom the right way.... ugh.

Bullsht illuminati propaganda. The black square is some Satan worshipping symbol or some shit

By the way, for those wondering what a quantum computer sort of does, I'll try to explain.

Suppose you flip a coin and cover it with your hand before you see it. Quantum mechanically it's in a superposition of states where it is both heads and tails at the same time. When you look at it, you collapse the wavefunction, and it becomes heads or tails with equal probability. Whatever it becomes is the reality in our universe, and whatever the other option is, the universe spits and the coin exists in the other parallel universe in the opposite state.

Normal computers use bits which are 0 and 1... basically off and on. You can make 4 numbers with two bits, which are 00, 01, 10, and 11 in binary. So to make those 4 numbers, you need, you to turn two bits off, 1 on and 1 off, 1 off and 1 on, and two on. This is usually done one at a time.

A quantum computer uses qbits which are based on quantum superposition... they are off and on at the same time. So with two qbits, you can simultaneous create 4 numbers at once instead of one at a time.

That's the basic idea at least.
What the fuck are you saying

We already have quasi-strong AI. IBM's Watson is a great example. Watson actually did my taxes this year, and it is being used for many helpful functions around the world.
I bet Watson wouldn't even figure out my tax situation this year without me basically doing everything myself

The same way a brain does, except AI can be given sensory and processing capacities far beyond human capability, eventually many thousands of times beyond our ability.
Lol no.

I am concerned as well. I just the opportunities for good outweigh the probabilities of catastrophe. It's ultimately a risk equation for me. The people on your list can have their judgments, a lot of equally smart people will feel differently, and it's up to each of us to apply our own judgments.

So you are a minister. I just want to get that out there for the record. Your work is not scientific in nature, but rather, in interpreting holy texts and communicating to people. That is a fundamentally different skillset that a computer scientist.

You sound like you have quite a bit of pride. You wrote the book? The book on what? The book about the book (the Bible)? I honestly think that's where you argument comes from. Pride is keeping you from maintaining an open mind, and you believe in your own thought process to the point of rationalization. Reread your post. It's all about how you have it all figured out, how you are so smart and will explain things to all the dumb people who just don't understand, and about how you claim to have it all figured out (so I guess you have omniscience? That's probably pretty helpful when you play the lotto...). That's pride if I ever saw it.

Maybe this experiment in computer science will work out well, and maybe it won't. But as someone who has a Masters Degree in computers, the academically-trained engineer in me wants to find out for myself through controlled experimentation. A guy who believes only in his own thoughts prophesizing that "the end is near" isn't really contributing to the discussion. If God wants to wipe us out with AI, then so be it. Who am I to stop him? After all, he's God, so he can do whatever he wants to whenever he wants to. There's not a damn thing I can do about that. However, probably, things are going to work out in a relatively reasonable manner, and more problems will ultimately be solved through continued human ingenuity. I think AI is an important tool in helping us take those next steps.
Lol interpreting holy text is way harder than computer programming. If you know anything about how people learn then you'll know that people understand how to play the game before they can articulate the rules

Dude, just stop. Kids coming out of Stanford, Harvard, and MIT are graduating as scientists, not theologians. Quit pointlessly defending that snake oil salesman.

This post is the Russian Nesting Doll of assumptions

I got that from my head, not a website. ;)

I know Quantum Mechanics well. I took 2 semesters as an undergrad and 2 semesters in grad. school. Just because it's probabilistic doesn't mean it can't be utilized in a creative way. Believe me, they thought about this a lot before they started to make quantum computers. Like I said, logic still works and 2 + 2 does not equal 5.
I don't think it's even remotely possible to understand something complex with 2 years of schooling.

To be fair, there are a few valid causes for concern when it comes to the development of AI. We've been right around the corner from "real AI" for decades so it's easy to think it's going to stay that way for the foreseeable future, but iirc a computer recently passed the Turing Test so you never know. If there is any sort of leap ahead of the state of the art, things could progress very quickly, like going from early computers with vacuum tubes to the ones that were possible after the development of the transistor. In that case, the real worry is what happens when computers start designing computers or when they have the ability to upgrade themselves. That could lead to an exponential growth in capability that could be problematic for humanity since we'd be superfluous then. I think that's really far off, though so I wouldn't worry about the matrix anytime soon. I feel like there's enough awareness and the process will be slow enough that this will be a non-issue. I'm a lot more worried about misuse of the types of robots I posted about earlier. They look perfect for urban combat. I don't think there's any stopping it either. But they have nothing to do with AI or quantum computing.

You're telling me to show a blind man the color blue.

If you want though, you can explain what one was to infer from your "punch/broken wrist" analogy. Your noncombative approach to discussion right? I'm still having fun laughing at you, so go for it.
Lmao you have to admit you got ReKt here. Saying you defended and deterred against an attacker isn't at all the same as challenging someone and then winning

Dude, just stop. Kids coming out of Stanford, Harvard, and MIT are graduating as scientists, not theologians.

I'd imagine there are still people coming out of those schools as theologians. We probably just don't hear about them, unless u search them out. Although with mit i doubt it since it's just a technology centered school (i think).

U sound like one of these people who put science as your god. You look to it for truth and answers and believe whatever it tells you. While ignoring the multitude of times it's teachings have been proven wrong.

And i don't mean this as an insult or anything so i hope it doesn't come across that way.

Btw I'm not going to debate this because it's pointless. U won't change the way i see the world and i won't change the way u see the world.
