Social Makeup Artist Deported and Imprisoned Indefinitely Without Charges

So I’ve been following this bizarre and disturbing case and figured I’d ask here in case anyone has dug deeper or found more recent updates.

The guy’s name is Andry Hernández Romero, a gay Venezuelan makeup artist who came to the U.S. last year seeking asylum. He said he fled because of threats from gangs and homophobic violence in his home country. No criminal record, passed his credible fear interview, and was legally in the U.S. while pursuing asylum.

Then out of nowhere, the Trump administration used the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport him. They said he was part of a gang—Tren de Aragua—based solely on two tattoos: crowns over the words “Mom” and “Dad.” No arrests, no gang charges, no priors. Just tattoos. But those tattoos are apparently common in his hometown, part of their Three Kings Day celebration.

He was deported directly to CECOT, El Salvador’s supermax prison that’s housing gang members under Bukele’s crackdown. No trial, no conviction, no charges in either country. Now he’s stuck in that prison system, and as far as I can tell, he’s never even been sentenced or formally charged with anything.

His lawyers are pushing for his return. Gavin Newsom and Rep. Robert Garcia have both demanded answers. Even gang experts say Tren de Aragua doesn’t use tattoos as identifiers. The gang “evidence” came from a CoreCivic contractor who used to be a cop and got fired for misconduct.

So my question is:
  • Has any new information come out that credibly connects him to gang activity?
  • Has there been any movement on bringing him back to the U.S. or at least getting him out of prison?
  • And does anyone know if the Trump admin is going to reverse or review these deportations under the Alien Enemies Act?

This feels like a due process nightmare and I’m just trying to get a clear picture. Appreciate any insights or links.

He's a Gay man locked in a prison with thousands of muscular, tattooed, sweaty men with shaved heads who haven't had sex with a woman in a very long time.

Are you sure he wants to come back to the US? ;)

Dunno, the other guy they were calling a "totally innocent Maryland father" turned out to be a gang member who beat the shit out of his wife several times pretty recently, so their "innocent" is about reliable as the "mostly peaceful" riots with dozens of murders.

And he's gay, so he could be loving it in prison.
Reminds me of gentle giant Michael Brown " hands up don't shoot" that some democratic leaders still lay about to this day ..

Why do they keep accentuating he's gay in every story?

Gay Makeup Artist Deported and Imprisoned

Word to the wise Dre.

Makeup artist + man = always gonna be gay. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not to be trusted whatsoever.

I didn’t know the guys name and wanted differentiate him for the other guy. I’ll change the title if bothers you

He got deported. The Vemezuelan government threw him in prison. America isn't responsible for that.
He got deported to El Salvador, not Venezuela, and it was under a deal between the US and El Salvadoran governments whereby alleged "gang members" in the US were deported without due process specifically to be held in CECOT in exchange for payments from the US.

The Trump admin is absolutely responsible for his plight and yet is refusing to take accountability or attempt to rectify the situation as evidenced by the meeting with Bukele in the White House where both Trump and Bukele acted like there was nothing they can do when in fact they're the two people with the power to fix this problem.

You don't see anything wrong with all this?

Yes because getting raped is so fun...wtf dude

People keep asking why his being gay is relevant. I think that in this case it IS actually relevant. Gay men are in a precarious position in prison. In a US medium the second the other inmates get a whiff someone is gay, some of them will try to get the gay guy to be their bitch, usually with gifts (and expectation of return.) Gay guy will need someone to guard him in the showers as well. Then when you get into max security prisons, straight up rape can happen if a group of guys, many of which will never see the light of day again, realize someone is gay or they figure he's gay because they think he's effeminate / weak / a good target. I don't know what El Salvador prisons are like but I'm guessing it's like a max security on steroids. A gay guy there that isn't a hardened criminal is in such danger there, it's crazy. You can't feed someone to the wolves like that. Even if it turns out he did something or other, the min / med / max separations exist for a reason.

I don't really have an issue with deporting people who aren't citizens. This whole indefinite detention and sending people to hellish prisons without any due process is absolutely unacceptable though.

I agree with all of this, good post.

I would add on and say this guy being gay is also relevant due to the fact that gays are not accepted in Latin American gangs. To think some effeminate homosexual is a Tren de Aragua shot caller is patently absurd.

If you're brown, have tattoos and have more than two names, you're fair game in Trump 's USA.

I’d also point out his sexuality is one of the reasons why he was being targeted by these gangs

Imagine how much better America would be if people cared as much about their fellow citizens as they do the "due process" of illegal immigrants.

Imagine if people cared about the “due process”??? Like the constitution??

We should all care about the constitution regardless of political party. This is a big deal.

Well, if we stop all this partisan bullshit. This isn’t about which team is winning or some stupid logic like that.

This is about the rule of law and executive overreach.
