Pereira fans tweaking out that Ankalaev won't be fasting and compromised:

Only a complete idiot would think he was fasting. I’m not sure how many times, or different ways there are to say it.

The is NOTHING that says a Muslim must adhere to the fasting thing. They can defer it to any other time during the year. And if they can’t fast at all ever. They can atone by making a donation to the mosque, etc.

Being informed is pretty easy with the internet. Otherwise you’re just an uneducated, ignorant, slob too lazy to learn.

It's considered a grave sin since this is not a good reason to skip the fasting. And according to who you ask, you need to fast for 60 days after ramadan or if unable to do so, pay for 60 peoples meals. But I'm sure all this shit is different depending on what part of the world you're in. It's his issue tho, he'll figure it out.
Islam has exceptions for people who are doing business and working. This should qualify as working for Ankalaev so really he's fine anyway.

I like both these fighters. Hard to pick one but if I am forced Poatan is on one hell of a run.

I didn't think there was an exception for that, I suppose so. So at worst he has to makeup 5 days after Ramadan ends. nbd.

Who cares? Can't think of any other sport where the athletes religions and rituals keep being brought up.

Fight or don't and shut up. That's all anybody should care about.
Who cares? Me & anyone who likes the sport shouldm

Ank just removed his built in excuse if he performs bad. This is great news as a fight fan.

No one wanted to see Ank gas late and que the questions over if Fasting resulted in the gas tank issues.

His circumstances exempt him from fasting. A) his health and his souce of income are directly affacted by the fast and could result in damage and B) he's traveling. The latter alone fully exempts him from fasting.

Most Muslim fighters don't want to fight during Ramadan, not because of the fasting (they know they're allowed not to nearing the fight) but rather because their devoted to the month of Ramadan and the spirituality that comes with it. Of course it complicated fight camps as well obv.

Belal, Khamzat, Bektic are a few examples of fighters who fought during Ramadan and by fight night (or fight week) they pause their fast - fully in line with Islamic principles.

I knew from the very beginning by fight week Ankalaev would have to pasue his fast. The weight cut alone would force him to.

It's not the food that's the issue. It's the not being able to drink water.
They're allowed to front load their water at breakfast just like their food. Do the bulk of your training, in your modern day air conditioned buildings, early while you're still full. Then have any next session after sunset when you're again full.

Why can every day people figure out when they should do their workouts and after work sports/activities around their regular day jobs but professional athletes can't?
