Luke Rockhold: "UFC hype machine discredited Strikeforce"

Rockhold is %100 right.

every promotion went through this too. Dream, Bellator, Shooto, Pride, WEC.

Everyone know SF, WEC, Bellator, WSOF have or had talent but the UFC has majority and to be called the best you have to beat the top guys and they are in UFC.

I agree that it can be said, including Kennedy in the Top 5 is somewhat discrediting his argument, but everyone who saw Strikeforce knew it had good talent. There was awhile where I was wondering which company had better results in their shows, excitement-wise when it came to how the fights went down. They had a good amount of action-fighters, who just went all out every time it seems, at least in memory.

This was so much more interesting than anything Zuffa has going on at the time.

Still more interesting than anything Zuffa has going on right now.

Zuffa actually promoted all but two fights in that HW tournament.

Were any of the fights even good? I don't remember them being good.

To be fair, it's really hard to know how good guys in different promotions are compared to each other, unless they're actually fighting each other, or (despite the folly of MMA math) have a number of common opponents.

Given that the UFC is the biggest org, with the most money and exposure, naturally people are going to assume that fighters outside the org for an extended period are in some form or fashion not as good. It's not always true, of course, but the perception is there.

That's true, but there's whole lot of shertards who say that strikeforce was a finished promotion when it was purchased. I don't know where this talk comes from, but I've heard this time and time again.

They were finished. Hence they sold. The talk likely stemmed from them paying huge PPV level purses without being able to sell PPV.

UFC can't even find a TV deal to payout their top stars so imagine how much they were bringing in with just that.

I think they had a problem transitioning guys from challangers to the big shows and when Zuffa came in they just kind of threw everyone together and we had the top guys emerge from that.

not in terms of money, in terms of talent. That all the good fights were done and they wouldn't be able to find more good fighters, etc.

The people in this thread have zero and i mean zero clue. Strikeforce had some talent that was in the ufc before they were there. Not to mention that the ufc had some older stars and fighters which were on their way out. Of course a smaller promotion is going to have talent, where the heck do you think the ufc gets their future talent. Also not to mention after 3 years of being in the ufc, the fighters have grown and emerged and are not the same fighters they were in strikeforce. Its not like people can stay at the top and fight the top guys forever, they take damage and wear and tear and other fighters who werent as good as them can beat them later on. Things change, and in a few years these strikeforce guys will be gone and guys from other promotions before will be dominating and be champs. It is the way of the game.

Here is the UFC MW top ten without the Strikeforce guys

C. Chris Weidman
1. Vitor Belfort
2. Lyoto Machida
3. Michael Bisping
4. Thales Leites
5. CB Dollaway
6. Robert Whitaker
7. Roan Carneiro
8. Tim Boetsch
9. Josh Samman
10. Rafael Natal

Had to use other sites for after #8. Without the SF guys, that is one sorry top ten. I bet if SF were still around, people would think Tim Boetsch is on-par with Luke Rockhold.

Makes me wonder how the Bellator guys would do in the UFC.

This.

I always got very excited for every StrikeForce event, they always seemed to end up great. I did for many UFC cards, but not that much anymore.

any poster on sherdog worth a DIME knew strikeforce, wec, etc was CREAM of the crop, period.

A bunch of zuffa TARDS on the other hand, well, I can't speak for them(but I will) they thought Jim Miller was the end of be all of the LW division back in 2011 LMAO!!! need I say more LOL!

Agreed. I remember how amped up everyone was with all the talent being merged. So much talk about guys like Cormier, Rockhold, Jacare coming to the ufc and doing some Major damage. Plus many more good fighters either added, or re-added to the roster like Lawler. Who people were happy to see back, but had no idea what kind of a monumental ass kicking spree he was about to embark on. Hardcore fans definitely knew what the merger really meant.

For all we know, Ben Askren can beat both guys that are fighting for the next UFC WW title.
We'll never find out, although maybe they'll sign him when he's slowing down and then the Zuffa Zombies can say he wasn't fighting good competition.
The man is in his prime right now.

Sherdog ranks him #7.

And finally, I'd like to apologize for bringing up his name.
This forum is only for guys who fight in the heavies.
I'm sorry.

Lol

Lawler = UFC before Strikeforce
Werdum = UFC before Strikeforce

Everyone knew Jacare, Ronda, and DC were good talents.

Werdum, Cormier and Lawler say high.

Werdum fought in the UFC before Strikeforce but was cut due to a contract dispute after he was wrecked by JDS and Lawler was also in the UFC before SF.
