several incidents in recent years have started putting me off violence and fighting in general. has anyone else had an experience that just plain turned them off fighting. a lot of us have studied martial arts for the purpose of defending ourselves, but at some point the lines get a bit blurred. has anybody else experienced this. i used to love fighting, now i still enjoy it but the shine has gone off it as i feel bad about hurting my opponents.

We ought to punch you for talking like that

Welcome to adulthood. Not that I was ever that good at hurting anyone; basically a point counter fighter by nature but it makes me sick to my stomach to see real violence.

But with that said the entire world's story was written in the loser's blood. Just a part of nature.

Calm down bro, I'm sure he's still 6'5, benchin teh 275, while juggling LA 8's on the daily. At worst he'll get a few ipads and man the fuck up.

don't worry you might get it some day. don't get me wrong i still love boxing and mma, but i can't stand watching miss matches or needless beatings. back in the day i was all "get up and smash the fucker" now i'm more like "they should stop that fight".

it took me a little longer to get to that point, i'm 32 but after several "incidents" i think i'm getting over it.

Yeah I hear ya. I used to wonder if I would have made it in MMA. Now I'm glad i never tried after seeing how some of these guys come out of it. I'm healthy and have a nice pension built up.

Meh.

The motivations for my interest with combat is still present as an adult. 1) Mastery of ones body. Seeing people capable of pushing beyond the potential I think is possible. 2) That mastery is crafted by someones personality, and temperament. It's the most honest way of seeing who someone really is at their core. 3) There is a real possibility of extreme violence in life, and interest serves as a medium for learning.

When you see someone like a young Rampage parry 4-5 shots off his elbows marching forward, land a clean counter left hook - into a dip for the hips that leads to slamming some dude on his face... Honestly it's inspirational. It shows you how to do it if you know how to watch, it shows you that its even possible in the first place, and you get to understand an aspect of that fighter that's undeniably real.

It's art and its an encapsulation of human achievement.

na i'm 6'2 and handing out concussions like lollipops. i have taken to head butting people and the results are sickening, and i'm not saying that proudly. i really am disgusted at myself for getting in fights with untrained people at all.

i really get that point of view, it's the main reason i stay interested.

concussions in training or street fights ? I wouldnt feel badly about hurting people in a street fight as long as they initiate it physically. Just remember alot of people if they knocked you out would kick you in the head afterwards if they could.

that's the thing, even if they start trouble they don't really deserve to get bashed by a trained fighter. it takes a better man to walk away.

Never really been a fan of "violence" aside from sports like MMA or boxing, as in I'm the kind of Blackhawks fan that hates when there's a fight on the ice lol

yeah its good to walk away. but its pretty easy to avoid an asswhopping from someone who isnt intent of giving it to you in the first place, keep your mouth shut and your hands off of strangers.

I have a very well fertilized garden.
Counsel has advised me to leave it at that.

I personally think any sport that doesn't directly involve fighting breaking out in a fight to be a disgusting display of unsportsmanship. There are sports for that go practice them.

Im fascinated by fighting and violence, I dont enjoy it, never have. Its like do I enjoy rubbernecking a brutal car accident? No but I cant help but look.

It's called maturing and losing the "eye of the tiger".

I'm paraphrasing but Mike Tyson said he no longer wanted to kill or hurt his opponents and he knew then, his career was over.

There's a grey area where guys like to get too close and push a little without the intent of fighting.

But as a manlet I can't risk that. I won't even engage in conversation at this point and far as I'll go is "I don't want any trouble" and "don't come near me." After that I'm defending myself.

I was the same, through my 20s and up till around 3 years ago id fight at the drop of the hat and have been involved some horrible incidents, That out of pure luck havent ended in horrific circumstance. But age (children) and responsibilities tame most of us.

Also who wants to be rolling around on the floors of pubs, it mite seem cool when your younger but as you age its embarrassing
