Khamzat imo put on a brilliant & dominating performance. He proved me wrong & showed up with a gas tank & continued the same pace he had from the first 2 rounds for the entire fight. But in the lil amount of time him & Dricus stood & banged, he got tagged & was back peddling. If Khamzat would've went with Khabib & company's advise to stand & trade he would've ended up losing that fight. Thoughts?

He ended up not having to work that hard early, so the stamina concern wasn't there.
It wasn't like against Holland or Usman where he expended a lot more energy on securing control.

Regarding the striking we didn't see much to know how it would go as both fighters make adjustments. But DDP has beaten more technically textbook strikers before. So Khamzat having crisper striking wasn't a guarantee of winning tye striking once he has DDP in front of him. It's a little like how fighters said "Khabib won't do the same to me", but then found his grappling to be more than what they saw on the screen.

I don't think Khabib thought he can sustain the relentless pressure for 5 rounds without gassing.

He landed some decent body kicks and snapped Dricus' head back with jabs but it was all in service to shoot as soon as possible. Dricus landed like 2 good punches on the feet, not much to take away tbh

I'm not gonna lie, I didn't think Khamzat would be able to either. But I still think that standing with DDP would've put him in danger at any point of the fight, especially in the beginning of it. I mean DDP was building momentum in the short amount of time while standing while being beat up & exhausted. The way Khamzat fought was the only way he was gonna beat DDP imo. So kudos to Khamzat for sticking to what brought him to the dance.

No, not much to take away from, but imo DDP looked better standing even while being dominated & exhausted. If Chimaev gave the fight more time standing there could've been a chance of DDP turning the tables.

Dagestan and Chechnya don't like each other. Khabib new what he was doing.
It's not that they don't like each other, it's just a looot of ego between both. Also Chechens see Dagestanis as sellouts to Russia.

Ironically, Chechens are way more friendlier with Georgians than with Dagestanis... that's why Merab or Ilia did not include Chimaev or Chechnya in their "rivalry" with Dagestan

Disagree. Dricus can only beat Chimaev standing when they are both tired and his technique goes out the window. Khabib's plan was striking early only.

It's hard to argue with the results of his regular plan though.

Pressure.. controlling is the right word

Khabib vs barboza or Justin gaethje was pressure.

Matt Brown vs Eric Silva was pressure

There was so little standup.
I only remember one good punch that Dricus landed, and Khamzat also landed some jabs and kicks.

I think Chimaev is more capable standing than people think…

But if he’s having an easy time just giving Du Plessis the big brother treatment, why change it up?
Chimaev can definitely stand & bang, but he doesn't win in that department against Dricus. He did the smart thing & wrestle fckd him because he could like you're alluding to.

I mean Khamzat kept in on the feet for a bit later in the fight, but once he got tagged & began back peddling, he took it straight back to the ground.

Ya Khamzat landed some shit, but DDP was already getting the best of him standing in the lil amount of time while the fight was on it's feet.

Khamzat probably never had any intention of actually striking at any point. The 20 seconds that happened on the feet was just Khamzat plotting his shot.
