Lightest weight class that could beat a legit HW

Heavyweights are supposed to be the baddest men when it comes to fighting. However, we've seen smaller HWs dominate bigger HWs, and we've even seen people from LHW coming up to beat HWs.

The idea that bigger is better doesn't seem to hold true in lots of these fights. So provided they use a smart game plan to win the (point) fight. What is the lightest weightclass (and which fighter) that you could see beating a top 5 HW?

Bonus: what do you think would happen if 135er or 145er would employ a strict hit and run tactic against a HW to try and outpoint them. Let's say they just go for like 5 punches / kicks a round, and circle / run for the rest of the fight. Would they get caught?

MM could take out HW's and if he survived the first even against an elite guy the fight would be over but him getting caught would still be dangerous. Against elite HW's even more so. Weight classes exist for a reason, and P4P exists for a reason.

Weight difference can be overcome but those divisions need to be there for safety, not really for a MM or Holloway but really for the lower tier fighters who'd be in real danger in an open weight system. Weight classes are the main thing separating the modern UFC from the sport that was banned in so many states and I see this dangerous trend where the casual fans are starting to demand those distinctions being relaxed.

HW's also always been the least skilled division in MMA and their rep as elites is a carry over from boxing where HW>>other titles. LHW's and MW's would be a serious threat to 145's or 135's. Sure things would be fine some of the time, but why take that chance?

No one in the light weight classes could beat Cormier, no way. However there are some really bad HW's like Anthony Hamilton and Cyril Asker and Mark Godbeer in UFC, they are all so awful, I'm sure some MW's would beat them
Yoel, whittaker or maybe adesanya could beat DC. Honestly Elite BW’s could beat anthony hamilton, standing kimura’d by Ngannou really?

If you mean a top 5 HW, the only one at the lowest division possible that would have a chance would be Mousasi and Romero at 185. Actually a lot of top guys at 185 would fuck up Derrick Lewis.

Koscheck > Rumble > Andrei Arlovski.

so welterweight.

BW’s like cejudo or dilishaw could beat bum Hw’s like Hardy.
FW’s like aldo could beat top 15 HW’s
LW’s like Ferguson or Khabib get really big out of camp they could bulk up to be over 200 pounds and beat maybe fringe top 10 HW’s. WW’s could beat top 5 HW’s conceivably. Top middleweights like moose, yoel, adasenya, whittaker could beat any HW possibly.

I just can’t see a FW or LW beating a Top 15 HW... Forget Aldo, l mean lm picturing Khabib or Ferguson standing in front of #15 Arlovski and nope, l do not see it. I think MW is the starting point for any talk of open weight possibilities.

I could see tj or cejudo taking down hardy and subbing him. Arlovski would be tough because he’s a good grappler but put a bum like tybura against khabib and I think he gets pounded despite the size difference. Woodley otoh would shatter arlovski’s or even overeem’s glass chin easily.

MW’s are early 2000’s HW’s basically, many guys are 220 off season.

I don't think a welterweight could beat a legit heavyweight. Middleweight is where I would draw the line.

Top HW?

LHW

anything below that and the size difference mixed with skill would be too much.

a top 155 could be at fringe HW fighter

Khabib may be a Moose like fighter in that regard... l definitely see him beating Hardy lol

Lol no none of them could beat Cormier, no way. Cormier is the best fighter apart from Jones. Yeah true anyone could beat Anthony Hamilton, he is absoutley awful, and beyond bad.

agreed i wouldnt bet on anyone vs dc but hes not unbeatable those guys are amazing strikers and could possibly catch DC with a KO shot.

effective wrestling, fight iq
The speed difference is massive, if you can't see it then I don't know what to tell you. rumble is very wild and looping with boxing, there's a lot of extensions and pull on his punches. They're fast but there's a lot less snap to it. Woodley boxing on other hand is a lot better and way more snappy, his punches are tighter, shorter, more compact and he can put up combinations a lot better than rumble due to his form.

Rumble is a scary-powerful fighter but he's not technically sound at all. Woodley is better than rumble at pretty much everything other than power and pure strength.

How much success do you think Usman would have against Rumble? How long would he last? One minute? Two? Fucking lol@Woodley being in the same dimension as Rumble head to head.

Power is Mass x Acceleration.. A lot of Heavyweights lack the Acceleration aka speed. Pop. Explosion. But they have the MASS to make up for it.... Mw's. Even WW'S Such as Woodley make up for that lack of MASS by being extremely EXPLOSIVE, Fast. Which sometimes is even better since they will always mostly land first anyways. So yeah... Woodley would prob KO Hw's if he lands.
