Here is my favorite YouTub fisherman. I remember discovering him when he had a small following of 1000 and now he has several hundred thousand followers.

His name is Matt Nelson but he goes by NDYAKANGLER because he is from ND. He also fishes Michigan and Wisconsin m. Really a very nice guy. We chat in fb and became fb friends in 2019 but dies not accept requests now when like 250k members. His voice is calming and chill af and he is like the Bob Ross of the fishing world. Very little in the way of clickbait bullshit though he does occasionally use fucked up gimmmick lures as a challenge, which is sort of clickbaity, but he is not douchey in the least.

Here are some of my fav videos. He fishes for bass, Muskie and pike mostly. He catches killer smallies and occasionally goes after big largemouth, (ND largemouth are not overly large, but he still catches some 4-5 pounders, it his smallies are more impressive and in the 4 lb range.

Here’s another guy I follow called sotsyak fishing and he fishes Minnesota. I started following him when he had 100 followers-he only has 2k now and I try to help him grow by doing things like this. Having so few followers, he is easy to chat with and he always responds.

He catches giant smallies and occasionally muskies and pike. Most of these hguys measure by length. I go by weight, personally anhd I requested this guy weigh some fish and in the first video, he sayhs he had requests to weigh some fish, so he
does, which is cool of him.

I bought a cheap $150 (albeit, the best one at that price point)one for my kayak and used it only a couple of times. I simply couldn’t read it because I had no clue where the fish were in relation to me-below me, in front of me, behind me? And since it was a kayak and not permanently mounted and I had to set it up everytime, it just became a pain in the sss.

I used it to map my home lake to determine depth in some places, but it never helped me catch a fish. That thing there is much better and If you knew where it was pointing, then yeah that would help me catch fish.

What are you thoughts on live scoping or forward facing sonar and how mid-strolling minnow shaking is taking over the bass masters? Personally, I think it should be outlawed for pro competition because it’s like a video game where you can see your lure and then watch the fish turn and look at it and then you watch them bite.

This is pretty controversial with the community split. Some pros love it because it puts fish in the boat while others recognize it as being way too easy to do what pros should be able to do without all the gadgets. While others, bass masters liking so many fish being caught for viewing numbers.


I am not against regular sonar, but a pro shouldn’t need something so advanced to catch numbers and size. I would rather see them face the same conditions as I face but it’s not their fault I can’t read a graph

My friend bought one that has all features and when he jigs for walleye it’s exactly as you describe. He sees the fish and he is able to place the bait right where they are. He does catch more fish that way, but I agree that it’s become too easy that way for tournaments.

I like a good sonar to be able to tell the structure underneath, find the ridges and drops, but to be honest I don’t use most of the options. I enjoy fishing whether I catch fish or not, and I love the uncertainty of it.

I don’t have FFS myself, but I don’t mind it to a degree. But I do like that some organizations are placing limits on it. MLF for example, limits its use to one period out of three per day. So guys can use it, but it won’t be their primary method, and they have to strategize which period to use it. I have a hard time being too critical of it because its not really different than flasher sonar thats been used for decades vertical fishing, like ice fishing. The only difference is being able to see in 3D now, which is huge of course, but it still doesn’t make fish bite. I feel if FFS is prohibited, they should also prohibit methods like sight fishing for bedded fish. And the pros that hate FFS would be in an uproar if that ever happened.

My favorite part is the build-up and the first moment I paddle my kayak-those first few strokes because at that point, it’s like Schrödinger’s cat. I have both caught fish and not caught fish, or some shit like that. It’s the anticipation of possibilities for excitement and a good day. I don’t get mad when I get skunked, but I feel like I am a shitty fisherman-then I remember where I am fishing and I know it is some of the toughest fishing save for the north east (for largemouth)

Good point about the bedding bass. If they weighed them right there, then it is fine in my book. But when they take them to weigh-ins, when they release that fish, is it going to be able to find its bed again to guard the fry? Yeah, they weigh them as soon as caught and release immediately. I really think all tournaments should do that, but I know its not feasible for most smaller organizations. But there’s just no way keeping fish bouncing around in a livewell all day, then releasing them miles from where they came from is in the best interest of “conservation” like they like to pretend. I think B.A.S.S. started some catch-weigh-release tournaments, but not many. The Elite series still has traditional weigh ins. I think they don’t want to act like MLF has any good ideas. The animosity BASS has towards MLF and its anglers is bizzare, and childish tbh.

Well, the elite series HAS TO HAVE those famous and popular weigh-ins to appease the crowd. IMO only fish of a certain size THAT WERE NOT BEDDING BASS SHOULD BE WEIGHED IN. For example, maybe fish over five lbs be brought to the weigh-ins?

NDYAKANGLER just released his new video like he does every Saturday. In this one, he uses a freaking bat lure (I have a white one, but have never used it) and catches some really nice fish. This isn’t the best example of his skills, but he has some of the best casting accuracy and kayak control which is part of the reason he slays them so good. Also, I was mistaken about him having 200k subscribers. He has almost 500k. He is not sponsored. He does not try and sell anything-no shirts, lures, or group membership like so many other YouTubers. I respect and like the hell out of this guy.

Yeah, yeah. Rub it in. We were up to 50 something yesterday and it felt great. I got all my gear together and planned to go out in the kayak and this morning, it dropped to the 20s. Fucking weather

Question. Has anyone tried the Core tackle hover rig or the ozark rig? I ordered some and can’t wait to try them. The ozark rig is supposed to be like a Texas rig but the weight is distributed throughout the bait instead of just the front. The hover rig is a little different and is supposed to really shake on the fall.

The Hover rig looks to be made for a horizontal presentation when fishing with FFS. I’ve thought about trying that technique sometime even without FFS, maybe this spring. I’m intrigued by the Ozark rig. A bait that moves just right on the fall can trigger a lot of strikes.

I got both of them as well as the weighted wacky rig they have. My thoughts are that from playing around with them, the ozark rig is great. The hover rig destroys most of the bait you put it in. I watched videos on how to rig it and it is getting a non-flexible plastic on the end that rips up the baits. Anything with salt like Yamamotos get torn up. Z man I had no problem with but a salty stick bait doesn’t fair well

Obviously, I got them. The issue I faced while setting up a few is that the hover rig absolutely destroyed Yamamoto senkos and anything with salt. The ozark is fine to rig up. They also have a weighted wacky rig that feels great. Can’t wait to try out all three.
