Lets talk fishing

Cool videos. As long as I am using lures, I will fish for anything. I hate using bait. Maybe it’s the sitting and waiting that I don’t like. But I love to go after aggressive fish and that looks like a ton of fun.
Trevally are next level aggressive. Like steroids angry. I’ve had strikes that nearly snapped rods making shimano drags scream. The transition was pretty smooth outside of rods… A Lot of freshwater bass lures work

I also switched over to braid and urge all anglers to do so no matter what the target is

The difference is night and day

I use braid on everything except my finesse setups. In HI don’t you guys have some peacock bass?

I love braid for certain things, like jigging for saugeyes, topwater, texas rigs, and most inshore fishing in FL. But I hate it for some things like crankbaits and jerkbaits. Sometimes that little bit of stretch helps a ton. Deep water vertical circle hook fishing is another time mono really shines. The stretch of mono really increases hookups tremendously. Fishing around rocks is also better with mono, braid doesn’t hold up nearly as well. I spool most of my spinning reels with braid, most baitcasters get mono except flipping rods.

Yea man at the only public reservoir we have Lake Wilson They don’t get very large though like in South America or Florida I’ve never fished the lake tho.
I have fished for smallmouth in the streams tho. Dinkers tho they never get bigger than 10 inches.

Yea braid isn’t abrasion resistant at all so I usually go as long as leader as possible

I use the FG knot.

Tell me what does mono do for jerkbaits and cranks? I don’t use either much if at all. I go with sinking pencils

Weirdly I never hear mainland anglers using sinking pencils and always wondered why. I use them almost exclusively. Deadly and fun bait to use

You impart the action. Like walk the dog but can be even more creative. A jerk bait without the lip. Braid works best

I often wonder if I miss bites because if braid

Ever used one. I don’t really even use jerkbaits. Mostly top water, spinnerbaits, jigs, and soft plastics

Less visible. At least for Ned rigs, wacky rigs
It’s arguable I suppose. I’ve watched enough salt strong videos to feel like it doesn’t matter one bit. I use a long leader flouro.

Bonefish which I think is one of the smarter more spookier fish dont seem to mind much. Its lure and presentation

Heres a vid on FG knot. Best connecting knot imo

I have tried leaders. I guess I don’t get the point of using 20 lb braid to a ten pound leader because then your line is only ten pounds strong.

The stretch in mono is less likely to rip the small treble hooks out of a fishes mouth, sort of like a shock absorber. A soft tip, medium action rod is important too for the same reason. I think its more important with crankbaits than jerkbaits, I use jerkbaits/slashbaits in FL a lot and always use braid. But saltwater fish are a lot more agressive and less likely to short strike like bass can do.

I’ve never used a sinking pencil before, never even seen one to be honest. They look a lot like a slash bait/suspending jerkbait. Do they work about the same? Or maybe they sink too fast for inland waters? I’ve used some baits in saltwater that had to be worked crazy fast to stay up, which worked great with saltwater fish. But freshwater fish need a bait slowed down and these baits would be on bottom before half way back to the bait. If they don’t sink too fast I may order a few.

I think it just depends. I always use braid for ripping blade baits for spring saugeye. Mono tends to stretch too much for a good hookset on long casts, but at the same time its not uncommon to feel the hook rip right out of fish with braid on a short line. I wish there was a perfect line for everything, but so far it doesn’t exist. I even use old school dacron for flathead fishing.

Mostly snook, redfish, trout, and flounder, depending on the day. I have fished for sheephead when we used to visit in the winter, but its been years. We go just north of Ft Meyers, around Boca Grande, so no bonefish up that far that I’m aware of. We used to visit several times per year, so I keep a kayak down there and would fish from daybreak til it got hot, so about 9am lol. Its been several years since we’ve been down, our two teenagers have a ton of shit going on. I sure miss the fishing and even the smell of the mangroves and water. I don’t know if theres a better place for inshore salwater fishing than SW Florida.
I think those baits are basically like what we call sinking jerkbaits, but they appear to have a less erratic action. I’m going to look into ordering a few.

I have found these to be super effective. The WTD isn't as clean as DUO but if youre a good angler and can improvise , you can makes these dance better than a jerk bait. Duo's run about $18 each which is stupid

I wish these ran heavier like a 20 gram

Anyone ever fished Hilton head? Going there in june to look for largemouth and maybe an occasional red fish

Like what was stated, maybe braid to a leader, but my thoughts are why not just use a whole soool of what you have for leader and you have no weak point from the knot?

I typically do use a leader when using braid, usually flouro because I use hi vis braid, plus the flouro is so much more abrasion resistance than braid. But I usually only use 3’ or so for a leader, not enough to offer much stretch.

65f today, saw some fish up in the pond shallows while working on fence. I should grab a rod and throw for an hour or so before dark, theres just too mich shit that needs done on these first nice days of the year.
