And he actually out-boxed Jon Jones in their fight. He won most of the stand-up exchanges in that fight, methinks.
 
The first UFC wouldn't have happened without pro wrestling. It was Zane Bresloff who was able to help Mclaren and Meyrowitz secure McNichols arena and acted as the local promoter for the event.

That's interesting. Rampage tells the story much differently, I think it was on his DVD "Unchained"

According to Rampage, Pyle was the state champ (maybe in amateur MMA or BJJ, I don't think he specified, it's been many years since I last watched it) Rampage was a high-school wrestler who got offered the fight on a weeks notice. Rampage didn't even know what MMA was at the time, he wasn't training it.

Pyle says he knew Rampage from BJJ tournaments... that doesn't sound like Rampage...

Sapp also infamously KO'd Nog with that HUGE slam when they fought.
No sauce, but I remember Nog talking about it, that he went out and woke up instantly.
So Sapp is the first to ever KO Nog.

back then he WAS a Beast.

Yeah I'm sure Rampage probably meant amateur or BJJ state champ because Pyle's first official non amateur fight was against Rampage. Interesting indeed.

This one is very obscure.
Michael Bisping vs Chael Sonnen was the first time two non-brazilian fighters were both introduced as vale-tudo fighters by Bruce Buffer.
 
Despite people complaining about herb dean as a referee, he's one of, if not the only "big name" refs with an actual mma record/fighting experience
 
Brandon Thatch's Dad fought current UFC HW Alexey Oleinik in 1998,

Alexey Oleinik 2-0 UFC and 50–9–1MMA who is coming off a win against Jarred Roshelt and also holds a victory over Mirco Cro-Cop in 2013 fought Clarence Thatch, Brandon's adoptive father.

Antonio Big Foot Silva began training Karate at age 4, receiving his black belt by age 12. He continued to train Karate until the age of 17, when he began studying Brazilian JiuJitsu and Judo.
