Colby didn't "take his ball and go home". He fought 4 months after his title fight, and that was a year ago. Leon took a 14 month break after beating Nate Diaz and got a title shot.

The other guy people have just in the last 5 minutes tried to pretend is some rightful #1 contender is Belal, for beating Sean Brady apparently. Nobody thinks he'd beat anybody ranked above him, or Shavkat ranked below him. Plus, they can't charge money to watch Leon vs Belal, and putting a title fight on prelims is a bad look.

Leon didn't just "take a 14 month break" after Diaz he was booked to fight Masvidal but then Masvidal got injured at the last minute. Leon knew he was next in line for Usman so he didn't want to risk taking a short-notice fight against a different opponent. IIRC the Usman-Leon rematch then got delayed until August because Usman had hand surgery early last year.

Colby beat Mas a year ago and hasn't even tried to fight anyone else since then.

Colby couldn't remember Leon's name before Leon was champ and now that Leon has the belt Colby wants to just slide in there for a third title shot.

Not a fan of Colby but sick of "champs" refusing to fight. Great that Colby haters are beating their chests, but this is a poor precedent to set. Champ decides who he will/won't fight. That's a recipe for absolute disaster in the UFC.

Leon also got a title shot when Usman had ran through every one else and had no other challenger in sight.

Leon has plenty of other guys that are more deserving to be his next opponent than Colby.

There is belal who maybe deserves it more but doesn't draw, and you can't headline a ppv with leon vs belal.

No one other than these two are more merited than Colby. Colby is the only other top 5 guy who is coming off a top 10 win.

Which is a case per case basis. Which is not how people treat it. They treat it like the ufc is always wrong and the fighter is always right.

While Martys defeat opened the door up for Colby to get a title shot the reason he was ranked 1st despite his inactivity is his close losses to the champ.

Those two losses were by far the best performances of Colby's career and against a fighter Edwards has now beaten twice in a row. Maybe he should get a win against a top 10 fighter before getting the opportunity to lose another title fight.

Booking Colby as the next challenger is an insult to Leon Edwards. If he's not just holding out for a Masvidal or McGregor fight (not that McGregor's ever fighting again), good on Edwards.

The last thing Leon wants is to make an enemy of Dana. If he really refuses to play ball, as soon as he loses that belt it's game over. He will be given the worst possible match ups and cut at the soonest opportunity. I love Leon and his story but let's be honest, his style is incredibly boring. The head kick made a lot of people forget about the rest of his career.
