KOTOR Remake Announced + Teaser *UPDATE* It appears canceled

People are overreacting about this 'rumor' which reeks of clickbait.

I even read a response saying "I don't want to live in a world that KOTOR is a generic 3rd person action game." They were probably trolling.

I'm curious to see what they'll do with the gameplay for, what I'm guessing will be a 2023 remake.

Idiots, nothing about Nioh's combat is generic.
The combat system of the FF7 remake would look and play really well with KOTOR.
This!

It's near absolute perfection coming from a TBS game. It handles party combat well, gives you time to strategize, while letting you get your action on.

Bioware is a shithole nowadays

Agreed. Everyone that made BioWare the studio we knew and loved are long gone. EA uses their name and reputation as a skinsuit for new games they release.

This Aspire studio is a complete unknown factor, but I'd trust them to make their name & reputation on making a remake on a loved game rather than a has-been studio like Bioware.

Sorry dudes. Trespasser DLC is some of Bioware's all time greatest writing. Y'all keep saying they're shit but can't help paying attention and opening your suckhole to spew the same tired ass lines you've been regurgitating over and over the last decade. Wallowing in misery is a pathetic and unhealthy way to live.

Lol at Nioh having "generic" combat. People really shouldn't talk about stuff they don't know.

If they just straight up change this from a strategy game to an action game like the FF7 remake, I'll skip it like I skipped that. For fucks sake there are so few rpgs and strategy games left. Stop rebooting them into action games. There are plenty of action games already.

This would be amazing. I enjoyed Fallen Order, but I felt it lacked heavily in the combat department. It felt stiff and wasn't fluid like I had hoped when dueling with lightsabers. Having fast paced SW combat sounds so fun. And, if they add in a loot system, even better.

I like how they call the original "turn based". WTF are you talking about?

Looking at the bright side of this potential rumor. GoW had fantastic combat, and even though it was only two people you could see the potential for party based mechanics in there.

It if it were basically GoW, but you could switch between party members and pause it like the original, that has the potential to be pretty goddamn awesome.

Wasn't Trespasser written by Casey Hudson and Darah? Both who have since left BioWare?

It feels like everything that BioWare did really well had their fingerprints on it and everything the company did that wasn't good/people didn't like Hudson and Darah had no part of (Dragon Age II and Andromeda come to mind).

It was turn based with the Auto-Pause + Dice Roll functions, similar to like Balders Gate.. Just kind of hides the turns and appears real time.

I know what it was. It was Real Time With Pause. RTwP. It had similar mechanics but it was certainly not turn based. They play very differently.

You’re not taking into account dice rolls.. I don’t think there’s much to debate here, by all accounts it is listed as turn based.

Combat is round-based; time is divided into discrete rounds, and combatants attack and react simultaneously, although these actions are presented sequentially on-screen. The number of actions a combatant may perform each round is limited.

Dice rolls have nothing to do with anything.

It's literally called Real Time With Pause. Its not turn based. Something like the divinity series, Xcom, etc play completely different and have very different strategies. It's one of the reasons people have complained that Baldur's Gate 3 will make the switch to....wait for it.......wait for itttt........Turn Based Combat.

That does not describe turn based combat.

The dice have everything to do with it.

All action is done in turns, with rolls done behind the scenes like Dungeons and Dragons.. you literally queue attacks for the turn… enemies can’t hit you at the same time and you can’t them .. it just tries really hard not to appear turn based, unlike Xcom.

the quote I posted describes KOTOR combat, “Round” pretty obviously meaning Turn..
To summarise it, Combat is done in rounds(turns) and the actions are limited to the round (turn).. please explain to me what turn based is if not that without just giving me examples of other turn based games.

A lot of articles describe it as "Real Time Turn Based", which I think is an apt description.

Under the hood each player gets a "round", during which they can take set actions such as movement and/or attacking. Each round is approximately six seconds, which replicates the pen and paper system it's based off.

In the pen and paper system each participant takes their round one after the other until everyone has had their turn. In the game it hides the underlying mechanics by allowing you to move and attack during your round simultaneously with your enemies and it gives the impression of a more real time system - and to some extent it is - but the fundamentals underneath it decide when you can and cannot attack. You can find this smuggled at various points into the game: for example at low levels you get a limited number of attacks per round and it can be disguised in the animations each participant has. They try to hide it, and one trick is you can observe extra animations that are 'pretend' attacks: no dice are rolled, it is just there to fill out a full round since otherwise you'd make 1 attack per round and stand still for the next 5 seconds. But make no mistake - no matter how many times you may button mash or may see your character attempting to attack, they only really attack once in those low levels.

I listened to the Bane and Thrawn Trilogy recently, the enhanced versions with sound effects/music. I'm pretty sure the clanging sounds of your swords/metal in KOTOR are the same.sounds they used in the books during battles.

It is most certainly turn based, and they did a decent job of masking it. It always reminded me of background actors sword fighting in movies/tv.

I really didn't have high hopes for this but seeing that the Dev for this recently released a Kotor II Port where it's literally impossible to beat and has no timeline on a patch to fix it makes me feel like this will be a dumpster fire.

Is that regarding the Switch version? I think it launched without the patch fixes right? Are they even allowed to sell the game with the unofficial patch?

I'm playing through KOTOR 2 on my Steam Deck right now. Thankfully it's just as easy to install the fan patch/fix. What an amazing game!
