Keosawa's Powerlifting Log

Nice squats Keosawa.

Thank you much.

On the west side note what did Louie have to say about your narrow-ish go-to squat stance?

We didn't talk about my squat much. We talked at length about the benefits of wide-stance squatting, however. I'd imagine he'd like to see my widen my stance at some point. I would too, if it makes for better numbers, but right now, widening my stance wouldn't necessarily help me squat higher.

My approach in the squat, bench press, and deadlift since late last year has been to systematically train my weaknesses while regularly using my competition style for the heaviest loads. For squat, it's been wide-stance squatting and in general posterior chain work; for bench press, it's been close-grip benching and triceps assistance; for deadlift, it's been sumo deadlifts, often with a very wide stance. My hope is that I can strengthen my weaknesses while maintaining my maxes and eventually, in time, make at least somewhat seamless transitions in technique.

If he finds real happiness, them he won't give a damn becasue, you know, he'll be happy.

This too.

Yeah, maybe. With training, I have always been singleminded in focus. And while I don't exactly train with a chip on my shoulder, there's usually something in life that I use as motivation. So, I'm wondering what a big (positive) change elsewhere in life would have as an effect on my lifting. Maybe it wouldn't make a difference.

Jockin the bitches, slappin the hoes

nice squats keo!

Really Keo...148lbs on the vid. Just last week you were 160. Are we fibbing to ourselves a little?

As always, I'm kidding. Very impressive stuff. How much were reverse band box squats at the end?

Yeah, I list my competition weight class, not my weight.

In my defense, I was 157.4 pounds before this training session and 156.6 pounds after it. And that 157.4 was immediately after my biggest meal of the day, plus the water I drink before training.

In other words, I might have been 160 last week, but I've been dropping weight in a hurry. Hell, I was 154.9 after a morning training session a few days ago! I'd be concerned about my weight loss if my strength were suffering, but so far, I've still felt solid in training and my last heavy squat and bench sessions both went very well.

I haven't made big changes to my diet, but I did cut out 75+ g of carbs a day by getting off of bread. Before, I was eating at least four slices of bread a day with several hundred calories of substitution butter. Now, I'm having half a cup of oats (140 cal, maybe 15-20 g of carbs) mixed in with Greek yogurt (20 g of protein, maybe another 140 cal) with my egg whites for breakfast.

Since changing this, I surprisingly am less hungry during the day, and my carb cravings have definitely gone down. I'm also not snacking on bread like I used to.

I might have been wiped from my squats, but the box squats were lousy. The greens took off 120 at the bottom and 80 at the top; so, for 500, it was 380 at bottom, 420 at top, and for 550, it was 430 at bottom, 470 at top. Honestly, I did 575 easier than I did 500 (without wraps) a few weeks ago, and I was shooting for a new PR today, but it just wasn't there at all, so I did the smart thing and called it a day after struggling through 550. At my gym, the greens all have different tensions (they've been unevenly worked in), so I might of had a weaker pair than usual. Who knows.

You should ask gbg to start logging all of her sexual activity if it happens to occur around training times. Eric will be pleased.

Good idea. If it affects training then I don't see why you wouldn't want to put it in your training log. I'll pass this along.

The last serious girlfriend that I had understood that training was a big part of my life and actually starting investing a lot of interest into my training and interests regarding strength sports, which is somewhat normal in a good relationship, I think.

I don't think your training would/will suffer at all unless your own personal goals switched. If you suddenly realize that while getting stronger is important to you, it isn't nearly as important as X (whatever variable that is for you), then, naturally, your training will suffer but it will make way for something more important to you.

This is all completely hypothetical, of course.

I remember when my log wasn't filled with shirtless pics and discussions on gbg's sex life. It was called Keosawa's Log for 2011.

You all are aware that none of your old logs are actually locked right?

This is what I'm assuming would happen to me. For the last couple of years, training has been my primary concern in life.

Also, Jake, do you know if I could stop by Phil Johnson's later this week?

You wanting to go out and look at the chains/other equipment or actually talk to him?

I was thinking we'd just look at the stuff he's willing to part with and see what his price is for it, Jake.

Yeah. My log wasn't locked in the first place, but it was close to 1000 posts. I just felt like a change, and this seemed like an opportune moment. Plus, it was a sign of solidarity. Training logs of sherdog, unite.
