Hmm.
When slavery ended did oppression end? No. The problems continued.
When segregation ended did oppression end? Perhaps, although that is controversial I would say so, though by in large the effects of things like "red lining" are still a problem.
Did racism subside in the United States? From the 1970s on racist sentiments were in decline and perspicaciously so in the 1980s. (I do not mean Xenophobia or bad culture attitudes, I mean "I hate people of X skin" racism)
Based on this, I would say the past 35 years or so have been fairly free of the effects of slavery.
A problem arises though... what serious actions have been taken to help troubled black communities join dominant American culture? Not much, it would seem, but granted that is a monumental task.
Anyway all the malarkey of my pontificating aside, there sure are a lot of these threads lately.
The 80's were hell on the black community. You are forgetting the nationwide systematic infusion of cocaine/ crack and sub machine guns into black communities... and the draconian prison sentences for crack possession and usage. Tack on another 35 years.
