Kanye West: "Slavery for 400 years?.....400 years!!!!!...That sounds like a choice!"

Hmm.

When slavery ended did oppression end? No. The problems continued.

When segregation ended did oppression end? Perhaps, although that is controversial I would say so, though by in large the effects of things like "red lining" are still a problem.

Did racism subside in the United States? From the 1970s on racist sentiments were in decline and perspicaciously so in the 1980s. (I do not mean Xenophobia or bad culture attitudes, I mean "I hate people of X skin" racism)

Based on this, I would say the past 35 years or so have been fairly free of the effects of slavery.

A problem arises though... what serious actions have been taken to help troubled black communities join dominant American culture? Not much, it would seem, but granted that is a monumental task.

Anyway all the malarkey of my pontificating aside, there sure are a lot of these threads lately.

The 80's were hell on the black community. You are forgetting the nationwide systematic infusion of cocaine/ crack and sub machine guns into black communities... and the draconian prison sentences for crack possession and usage. Tack on another 35 years.

Check out the full TMZ interview. Kanye is a real dude, unconventional methods but hes a true free thinker. But I think he's really trying his best to help the black community, and I think his message goes even deeper than that, its universal. Black vs White, East vs West, Nation vs nation, etc.

People like Kanye can actually make a real difference with his power, money and influence. Watch the last part of that full interview and tell me this guy doesn't at least make a decent point.

The full interview shows a completely different side to his message, people should watch it. He also displays a high level of patience and intelligence in how he was able to diffuse the situation/argument and turn things to his side. The mainstream media is showing highly edited parts of his TMV interview to show him in a negative light.

Well, you are a very limited thinker.

Here is Kanye's point. Blacks were slaves could not speak up and make their own decisions. Now, blacks are attacked for making their own decisions if they go against their new "masters".
The slaves could have stuck together and stopped being slaves. Now, it could be via emancipation or death by combat but the point being that being a slave was no longer an option.

Now, to the present where if blacks stick together and say what they feel and make their own choices they no longer have to be "slaves" to the DNC.

So it is slaves as being not able to express yourself out of fear.

But with lower IQ people they are not as good at abstracting and just take things literally all the time. You might be autistic.

All just bullzhit made up to trick low-IQ retards into voting against their own interest, like the GOP mountebanks always try to do. And if you really believe this and are not just spreading propaganda you're a moran as well.

It's crazy to think though, the USA has had slavery for the largest part of its existence.

Well slavery is first recorded in like 3500 BC; every ancient civilization had it from Egypt to China to pre-Columbain American civilizations; the first country to outlaw it was the UK in like 1800 something...

The countries that haven’t had slavery for the largest part of their existence is a short list for sure.

Intelligence is illusory. And what you said could be said of most any prominent musician. I likewise don't believe Twista, Chris Stapleton, or Prince is a genius.

But I would believe that you are in the top 1% of IQ's. So, using the most general and basic definition that you can, do you believe that you are less smart, as smart, or smarter than Kanye?

Why do you believe intelligence is illusory? I'm fairly confident that statement flies in the face of science's best and most current understanding of intelligence or at least the consensus view of intelligence, but I'm curious what your thoughts are here.

I also think this conversation needed a definition of intelligence. If we care about creativity and think this is one aspect of what makes (or can make) someone intelligent Kanye is obviously off the charts. What he said about slavery is borderline retarded, and perhaps his reasoning skills are terrible, but I'm not sure it's fair to totally right him off as a dummy (although I would take any of his opinions with a grain of a salt, creative stuff aside).

Kanye may right good music and produce for many artist, but I don't see how his political talk should be considered relevant,

I will be pissed off if my favorite Violin or Guitar player say something that idiotic but that will be it as I don't take political advice from artists.

Kanye is mentally ill with the mind of a 10 year old child. He is an idiot.

I disagree, watch the full interview and if you still think that, thats fair enough. He did what he set out to do, change minds, he changed the perspective of that young angry man by the end of their conversation/argument.

He may be immature in some ways but he knows how to handle a situation like a pro, he calmed the guy down, apologized to him and then planted seeds of thought in his head.

This is a clip of the TMZ guys who argued with him, after the next day they give their recap. He actually ended up inspiring both of them after they gave it some thought. I don't really care for his political message but his core message is strong.

Full Interview, media outlets are only showing the 5 minute cut that makes him look bad.

@panamaican @Falsedawn @JamesRussler

What do you guys think. On to something or nah?

I think black people already have this perspective. It's taught in their homes. It's the perspective that led to multiple attempts to end the system and the Civil Rights Act. It's why we are proactive about those things already.

Beyond that, it's very easy to make a choice regarding your own safety, it's not as easy to make a choice affecting someone else's. See, if a slave runs away, the slaves who were left behind got punished and tortured to find out if they knew something or if they played a role in the escape. So, when you run off you're also subjecting others to possible punishment for your actions. That's also a choice. My freedom, your potential punishment. I'm not sure that we would make that choice.

Would you choose to let others suffer for your choices?

But that's separate. You're suggesting the years and years of fighting for equal rights demonstrates a lack of resolve? Or that the constant push for equal treatment demonstrates a lack of resolve? Considering that the black populace in this country started with nothing, yet has pushed their way into equal rights and continues to fight for those things, I guess I'm not sure what you're think represents "resolve". Lawyers, doctors, scientists, athletes, astronauts, etc. These are not positive things to you?

Stupid thing to say in lame attempt to sound intellectual and funny. The look on his face when he realized the other two didn't laugh...

He must have huge ego where he thinks he's a brilliant historically significant genius. Is he a Sherdogger?

I bet the United States is at the top of that list

So the guy hurling insults like a whiny child is accusing others of thinking like a child?

Kayne will forvever be known as the uncle tom of hip hop. Selling out his race for some album sales and because Obama hurt his feelings.
Selling out white liberals apparently equals selling out black folks. This is next level brainwashing shit right here. This is why liberals can be so vile and disgusting. No respect for the individual thoughts of black folks. It's ownership and absolute conformity, or else.

I don’t agree with pretty much anything he’s been saying lately(or ever), and I think he has a dangerous messiah complex, but it’s crazy to me that the so much of the outrage against what he’s done this past week is in the context of him being black. There’s been people who actually are poking holes in what he’s said but I’ve come across a lot more who are really mad at him for saying those things while being black.

It’s not just liberals though, it’s his own community. Daz Dillinger put out a video saying the crips should “bang on him” when they see him. He may be physically harmed over going against the grain with a political opinion. It’s absurd, but it is the time of trump so nothings surprising anymore.
