That said I am in the minority on this point and I suspect most Americans, especially the part of the base Walz is trying to pick up, won't care.

Agreed. There are also degrees of how bad a DUI is. Not justifying any DUI but there is a hell of a difference between someone a bit over the limit who drives 10 miles below the limit (as they probably mistakenly think the slower speed will be enough to compensate for their delay in reaction speed) and someone who does 96 in a 55mph zone. Not sure if there are any studies done on it but I'd imagine the odds of a fatality go up exponentially the more above the speed limit you are since you are compounding slower reaction speed with much less time to react to the unexpected.

I think it would be a big deal if it were recent or if there was some sign he continued the behaviour. But people should be allowed the opportunity to atone for mistakes and it seems to me he's done that with a life of public service since that incident.

Its not disqualifying to be sure and I do agree it was a long time ago and it doesn't seem like it became a reoccurring problem so he should be allowed to move past it. Just saying that personally I don't excuse DUIs as quickly as others do.

No, you contradicted my original point where I was making an accurate important distinction between driving 96 mph while drunk!! and driving carefully and slowly in back roads. No sane person would possibly ever try to make the argument that they are the same thing. But you did.

You did that because you thought I was trying to make Walz look bad because you thought I was against him and now you have found that out you're wrong and you're just going to double down on a really idiotic point to save face.

If this isn't true then you have one recourse which is to make your argument that drunk driving slowly and carefully on back roads is the same as driving 96 mph while drunk.
