They typically give champions the direct title shot when they go up a weight class. There is a bit of a precedent for it.


I think it would make more sense to have the lower weight champ fight the #1 contender for the title shot. But that isn't generally the way it happens. Is Dustin the #1 contender?

Disagree. Ilia vs Arman or Islam only imo. Maybe Charles if you absolutely had to. Tired of seeing Gaethje, DP and Chandler near the top knowing they don't have what it takes to become champ. Fuckers have had more than enough opportunities to get there. No need to risk knocking off a potential title challenger and/or give the UFC any reason whatsoever to justify giving one of them another title shot.
