Crime Justified Shooting?

I'm with you on this one, gear.

Self defense shouldn't encompass situations where you're wading into a brawl, gun in hand with the plan that as soon as you get punched you can shoot.
Do we know if he was just wading into a brawl or whether he was actively involved in said brawl before the video started?

i see a lot of people saying sucker punch guy is a pussy but what if the armed guy sucker punched someone first? We do not have any idea if he started it or what led up to it.

No, we don't. To be fair, we can't really render a fair decision here and the video is so short, we've gotta make some assumptions.

Could be that he was trying to defend his girlfriend who had just been stabbed, or he could have been bullying someone and rolling in throwing punches with a gun in his hand. Would definitely be a different story.

LOOKS to me like he's a willing participant in a brawl and then relatialed to being punched by shooting, but I definitely don't know that's the case.

People are saying he shouldn't have pulled out the gun because his life wasn't in danger. If he was the one who instigated, you'd expect this to have come out instead of the argument that he overreacted.

That is a solid point, but, can't be certain until I see police reports and/or more footage.

I will say that if are NOT instigating in any way, then all is fair when sucker punched. You cannot be sure when or if they will stop attacking before major injuries, and one shouldn't be expected to read a perps mind in the middle of something like this.

It's considered self defense if you use a gun or another weapon if you get sucker punched. There was a story years ago where some kid playing the knock out game got stabbed and died by the person he assaulted and it was considered self defense.

Need more of this to stop sucker punches that have caused grave injuries. It was common place in San Francisco for a while and it's happening in NYC. This self defense will save innocent lives.

Did he shoot? Comments on Twitter say he just pointed at him.

After closely analysing the footage a few more times, you are correct.
I retract my previous statement.

You called it.

I can only estimate it was his own gun because he reacted so fast he instinctually knew where the safety was and there was a round in the chamber.
He didn't shoot?

He didn't shoot?

Just rewatched the last two seconds of the clip several times in fullscreen.
*Its odd that there's no sound of a gunshot in the clip.
*You can clearly see his arm & hand absorb the recoil.
*Only people around who is holding the cell phone camera turn and run, when the people on the opposite side of GreenShirt & BlackShortsShirt don't have an immediate reaction to what should have been the sound of a gunshot.

And there's been no new information about this incident I've seen on Twitter.

It looked like it started as a 2 Vs 2 brawl with suckerpunch guy seemingly running in when he saw the gun pulled.

The guy in green already had the gun in his hand before the punch so it looked to me like suckerpunch was trying to save a life and stop the gunman killing someone.

Ah, the Saturday Night Special... prohibited in Canada, probably illegal in New York, all freakin' good south of Dixie. Stand your ground in the name of freedom, friends.

USA!!! USA!!! USA!!!

don't risk being sucker punch then get stomped on. Quite justified just hope the guy don't die from being shot though

No gun on the ground anywhere in the video.
Ironically, while he was falling to the ground he used his right hand to draw the gun from his right pocket... rather than brace for impact with the ground... and immediately shot his attacker although it appears there was not going to be any follow-up attacks.

This seems more like vengeance for a suckerpunch than self-defense.
You can clearly see the gun on the ground at the 2 second mark in the video, which he grabs before he is suckerpunched

From the video, I think a trial is ok. Looked sketchy. If the fight isn't his fault, probably should be innocent.

Sucker-Punched and then in a vulnerable position.

I am going to say that it was justified.

But that is just based off of this short video.

Chicago had a record number number of shootings over the weekend and they have the strictest gun laws of almost any state. In the majority of "Dixie" where everyone's armed very little gun violence happens outside the cities with certain demographics. So dang right USA!! This thread isn't about "guns" per say but if the use of one in this situation was justified.
